- The Footloose Heiress concerns a tycoon who discovers that to win a bet his spoilt daughter Kay Allyn (Ann Sheridan) must marry society boy Jack Pierson (William Hopper) on her 18th birthday. While she's keen, her father isn't and hires a hobo called Butch (Craig Reynolds) to put a spanner in the works. In this clip, Kay plans to manipulate Butch to try and get her own way and win the bet at the party there. However, she isn't expecting Butch's reaction when he discovers her deceit and in front of all the guests he leads her down the garden, bends her across his knee and spanks her - much to her embarrassment. Intriguingly the original adverts for this tagged this as "Love on the Bum." Try getting away with advertisement like that nowadays!
On a sad note, none of the four main stars - Craig Reynolds, Ann Sheridan, William Hopper, or the girl who dances with both in the clip, Anne Nagel - lived to great ages. Craig Reynolds died aged 42 in 1949 when knocked off his scooter in a crash, while the other three all died in their early 50's from cancer. I'll be uploading more videos tomorrow sometime.
Don't think I've ever seen this movie spanking before. Fascinating ! Always liked Ann Sherdian (hubba hubba !) & interesting to see William Hopper so young & with such dark hair (and a mustache !). Thanks a lot for uploading ! I remember watching Ann in the TV comedy Western "Pistols & Petticoats" as a kid in the 60s. Sadly, I found out later she was suffering from terminal lung cancer & that's why she didn't look well in her scenes. James Cagney even mentioned her heavy smoking habit in his autobiography. He wrote that he urged her to quit. But like so many, she didn't. Smoking cut short the lives of so many stars over the years.

Curiosity, in the USA such a thing .. what do you risk any criminal with the law ????
Back then none at all. I have no idea nowadays, but I cannot see any lady going to court and bringing a complaint that a man spanked her. Such an attempt would likely be ridiculed. Mind you, I cannot imagine any chap attempting this on a woman nowadays - she would likely flatten him!
