- There's almost nothing left standing in the small community of Dawson Springs, Ky. after it was hit by a tornado on Dec. 10. As survivors sift through what's left of their homes, search and rescue crews look for the missing. Read more: wapo.st/3oUV3LA. Subscribe to The Washington Post on RUclips: wapo.st/2QOdcqK

I know so many of these town are affected by poverty already. I can’t imagine what rebuilding will be like for them
It's ABSOLUTELY CRAZY that families that have gone through this horrible experience...STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR HOTEL ROOMS!!!
FEMA will pay for hotel rooms for awhile. With so many homes gone, they'll probably bring in trailers for people to live in. I just can't imagine what they're going through.
Hopefully FEMA will help.. out here in TX during the winter storm my request was denied while my apartment was flooded and they stated there was no damage.. who knows now a days this is just terrible
You could let them live with you.
Peace surrounds this community right now. I'm praying and donating.
If peace surrounded it an ef-4 wouldn’t have leveled it.
Add shock, desolation and despair
It's crazy how everything is destroyed I'm certain parts but then those gifts were in tact! Perfectly! So crazy how life works. Our hearts are with you!
Feel sorry for them. Pray for speedy reconstruction.
Im sure they will be able to recover but it will take time probably a year
this is just insane...all that debris...and the mailbox still stands. Mother nature is a beast. Many prayers go out to this community.
FEMA Trailers would make a big difference here. To Stabilize the situation until they can figure out their next move.
Prayers for all the people hit by tornadoes.
FEMA Trailers *would* be a great idea for the tornado victims, especially after the electricity (and water, if it's off) get turned back on.
FEMA trailers would also have helped the small town of Rockport, TX after Cat 4 Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Rockport in 2017. It destroyed or badly damaged at least 75 percent of the buildings and houses in town.
But VERY few people in Rockport got FEMA trailers, compared to the huge numbers left homeless, and the trailers were later taken away before the occupants had anywhere else to live. Most FEMA hotels were 200 miles away from Rockport, and that program ended in less than four months, right before Christmas.
FEMA was apparently instructed by then-President Trump to give Harvey victims a minimal amount of help. A large chunk of money intended for rebuilding was taken away to build Trump's Wall.
As a result, many people here got very little or no help at all from FEMA, and a state assistance program lost its funding to Trump's Wall project (and our Republican governor continues to use tax dollars for a damn Wall).
Thank God Biden is President, not Trump, and that Kentucky has a Democrat as governor. That means that these people will NOT still be homeless four years from now, like some of the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
I myself was made homeless and displaced by Harvey for nearly three years (and like most of us, I did NOT get a FEMA trailer). Finally, volunteers came to the rescue. But some people here still remain homeless and displaced, and all the help is long gone.
It would help temporarily but I'm sure survivors wouldn't want to chance staying in a trailer when there is another tornado warning -- I can't even imagine how terrifying that would be.
This is the worst and most widespread destruction caused by a tornado I've ever seen in my long and not uneventful life. Prayers to the souls that didn't survive and to the survivors. We must as a nation help make these fellow human beings whole again whatever it takes. :(
No, this nation needs to repent of it’s wickedness and injustice because judgment and utter destruction is slated for America!
It's so git wrenching to see...our town in se mo was hit by a tiny one in oct and took out the co-op and maybe a dozen homes....the mess from that is still visible! I can't even imagine the sorrow felt through these folks eyes and voices....praying for you!
Donna you wouldn’t happen to be in st Mary would you? I’m up in St. Louis and happened to see the damage the next day….even a tiny one damaged peoples live for years to come. I feel so bad for these people in this video.
@@hotshotkorey4 Fredericktown Ya my friends RV Motors in 72 got creamed and a few house were totally blown away ..Still looks badly...I'm just dumbfounded with the amount of damage they will have to clean up All so they need to get some people with metal defectors down the road to help find jewelry that kind of thing sad but these people are from KY they have grit!!!!
Across the river in Chester and they're still trying to repair from those October tornadoes. That night I think we had 8 tornadoes in total. I can't imagine what these people in KY are having to go through right now.
@@larrycole2455 They sound like they have a strong community....It's months down the road they will still need support!
I can’t believe this was worse than the Joplin
Praying all mayfield Kentucky.god bless you
seeing that lady pull out Christmas presents from what's left of her house is truly heartbreaking to watch
I couldn’t believe the gifts were still in the gift bag or there at all.
God bless all the survivors. Comfort them and hold them tight, Lord Jesus🙏🏼
Why didn’t you pray for this to be prevented? What’s the purpose of praying after it happened? There is no god, it’s a natural disaster.
We need to take account of Climate Change when rebuilding. Don't just rebuild, rebuild to withstand the horrific super storms that will make this look like a picnic.
@@deborhais yea right……
You think you can build a structure to withstand That kinda wind? No…….. only being underground will keep you alive.
@@remlya your opinion……your choice……… enjoy Hell
@@prmath How christlike of you.
Having more than 100 deaths in a so-called "developed country" is really rare. I really pray for those who have lost their families in this time of difficulty.
Like Cruso in Haywood county NC.
Gone in a few hours from floods this year
Bless all suffering thru disasters
I care and am praying for you from Washington state. I am so sorry. Help them everyone. Lord Jesus comfort and strengthen them and lead them to their new life.
Trailers seem like a cheap way to get a house, right up until a big bad storm comes a long.
That town is finished I'm afraid. Time to find another one. I went though this 29 years ago and it's so true what he said about living in a town your whole life and then one day a storm comes along and you can't find anything, no street signs, landmarks, nothing to find your way around.
Very reasonable response.
With Climate change, this is going to happen over and over again, with increasingly bigger and bigger storms. We need to stop climate change.
Agenda 2030 and the wild lands project.
I live in this town and I will tell you this. This town is not finished!
@@deborhais stop with the nonsense
Be careful when *donating* money, unfortunately, there are a lot of predator scammers in today's world. Donate in person, or to a well known relief organization.
excellent advice..

@@kimberlybeeson3613 Hell no they are the same people that was stealing cloth donations when New Orleans was hit with that hurricane.
Heartbreaking, oregon went thru that but with fire, towns just burnt to the ground. We lived with smoke for a month, the entire west coast . Had to fly to Colorado to breathe fresh air. It's just tragic to think they lost all they worked so hard for
Sad sight
Doesn't matter till it happen to you. This world and humanity is sorry
I played up and down those streets all my childhood. When I drive them now it's hard to process what your seeing, it's just overwhelming and heartbreaking. My heart goes out to those who lost everything and to the town of Dawson.
How do we contribute to help these poor people 😢
I'm sad for you guys I have being looking at a lot of this on RUclips and I'm in new Zealand
The guy describing the scene was real. I felt glad I wasn't there.
It's so hard to see the pictures of the destruction. I can't do anything but tears flowing from my eyes, and the words of the one woman who said all she wanted to do was go home, but she don't have a home to go home to...
Rip. The people who lost their life and GOD BLESS YOU ALL
Who else got hit?
Prayers to all of you! I can't imagine!, unbelievable!!
It's so awfull and deeply upsetting my heart goes out to all
I wish I could hug them all. Poor people on Christmas month..how awful.
I wish I were as wealthy as Amazon owner so I could atleast pickup the hotel fees for those poor souls involved. Absolutely NOTHING to a person of his unbelievable wealth. (Too busy paying for rich celebrities to fly into space I guess)……..
Damn that crazy. Prayers from Texas.
My x family was from dawson they still had land there praying for everyone in ky
All crying this month
So sad to see a whole town gone

Man thats crazy & scary 🙏
You can’t help by feel so bad when she said this is 20+ years of my life and it’s just gone just gone 😢😢
How do you even prep for this?
With a heart full of God's love.
That’s terrible. You shouldn’t live there.
Man that’s messed up 🙏 praying for everyone
Can hardly believe my eyes seeing such utter destruction, it's mind bending and heartbreaking but there's a small bit of comfort for them all knowing they're going through the same thing and have one another to help them walk out this awful tragedy, they will strengthen each other
Prayers for them and their community 🙏✝️💟🕊️🕯️
I wonder how Kentucky can harden their structures to withstand the super storms like this one from climate change. It will get worse and the disasters are going to start happening more and more. I hope for the best for the upcoming generations.
The sad thing about this is they will rebuild and knowing in years to come it's gonna happen again. The state needs to build homes that can handle this. This happens over and over again. It's time to do something to save life's. How many more tornados will it take..
Its unbelievable
Praying for these poor people 🙏🏼 no words
An Unimaginable Hell on Earth.
This is horrible. Why dont you guys in 🇺🇸 build with concrete instead of all wood....i mean on the west coast i get it cuz of the earthquakes. But in tornado country....come on now. May God bless these folks.
The concrete wouldn't of made any difference. A candle factory made out of stone was leveled. They had a twister that was producing wind speeds up to 200 mph for two straight hours. I honestly don't think it would of made a difference at that point. The house could of been made out of titanium the tornado would of used it for target practice with pine trees.
This is the first tornado to hit dawson since I've lived here for 40 years
FYI....F5 takes out anything in its path. Brick homes were leveled.
Last moment 2021
Pero no construyeron con buenos cimientos, todo por ensimita, que triste, pero Dios los va a bendecir.
sounds like maria
They are not letting people help that want to..they won't let me in and I go there everyday. I would hand out money left and right but can't get to the people 😕
To many looters people likes to kick others when they are down and sadly the ones that wanna help can't get near because of heartless people.
Time to build concrete houses, trailers and roofs in tornado ally.
They should build there house's underground.
😔 God bless USA
Not with Chester in office.
Gone With the Wind.
They're not in Kansas anymore
😥🙏🙏🙏
Too bad their favorite ex-President can’t come and toss them some paper towel rolls. If you and your elected representatives withhold compassion from others, say natural disaster survivors in Puerto Rico where over 3000 people died as a result of a storm, it’s a good practice to imagine yourself in their situation. You might need that compassion and support in the future. Fortunately for Kentucky, Rand Paul has no shame, and no problem demanding from others what he withholds from them.
Really..that's what you have to say in a time like this. This is my town and we don't need your political opinions right now.
🤷🏻♀️ they should have worn their masks 😷
That fire chief looks exahusted
@@haristhebosniaklion8584 , quit posting this on other peoples' tragedy. No one like what happened to your people but this is not the correct forum to air your grievances.

😱😱
Time for MSM to be real with poor people. Climate change is here.

Have there been any recorded instances where mega tornadoes strike the same place twice? Just rebuild in the same spot I guess. Maybe it’s like lightning. Lightning never strikes in the same place twice? Unless you’ve got lightning rods.
Anyway just rebuild in the same place but add a storm shelter and many lives can be spared should anything happen. Again.
Also praise God-Hallelujah. When you’re in His perfect will...things just seem to pass over you. Passover.
Moore, OK has been hit several times. They have rebuilding down to a science including building underground storm shelters in schools so kids can be kept safe.
It's a war zone b like WW2 rebuild just starting over
The wrath of God
Mother nature started to answer how it has been treated. It will get worse, unfortunatelly. There have been many warnings but only ignored.
seriously? You're really going to do that right now?
@@Jesus.saved.me2000 unfortunatelly, this iskind of urgent message to wake the people up - because it is late, and can be done something - a little bit to remedy the situations. You think this is worse ? No. It will be ugly and at least 10 times over . . . wind speed will pick up so much higher velocity soon. This is nothing . . . after 2030 will be like horror movie.
Just stop with the climate change. This happens every 100 years.
@@tinajones8597 true, once about every 100 years; now it is happening within every 10 years and will get worse from now and on. There will be unbelievable tornado and hurricane. Plus earthquakes - due to human mining operations.
@@symmetry08 where do you get this information? Back it up please.
the situation looks like in Iraq... Sad...
Tornado didn't ruin Kentucky but the sin. Repent therefore or else something worse might happen
This is global warming and sadly, the new normal.
No, that's nature.
@@Lexman509 no, that’s The Most High of heaven.
Bro it took a century to possibly tie or beat the record for the last 200 mile tornado….please elaborate more on how global warming is responsible? Mayb a more accurate description would be an elaborate, extreme weather patter caused this. As in a once in a 100 year storm caused this.
This is called a natural disaster... where did you learn that fake info???
No...it's not global warning...try again. It's a weather pattern that happens every 100 yrs
