All R179s are now equipped with this system,as well as the 160s and 211s. What better proving ground do you want or need? The QB line is the benchmark for all future CBTC signal changeovers. Culver line is complete,8th Avenue is just about finished between 59th and Jay st. Crosstown is underway, Fulton St line is upcoming,as well is the Rockaway line. The BMT is up next via the Broadway subway, the Nassau st line, and DeKalb junction. There are a significant number of 160s that are down right now,so bad that the TA had to do an emergency fleet swap involving the G line. The 160s in G service were sent to EFR service, and weekend OOS B line cara were subbed for G service. The R46s, surplus cars being held in reserve,are being prepared for G service. As of today, the cars will hold down the G until the Jamaica Shops problem is dealt with. My understanding is G line service will be fine, since new cars are scheduled to be pressed into service there because of CBTC coming to the line. No big deal about the 179s. This is the direct outcome of what the TA said they would do.
Yes, the train's transponder and equipment have to register with the CBTC signaling and that determines the "MAL" to go faster. Honestly, when the 211s are ready for testing, guaranteed they'll run on the E and F to test the Fast Express section I hope lol. Also, yes, there are about 40 OOS R160s in JYRD because of this issue. And I would imagine they'd cut the B because the N and Q are high priority lines to cut for 68s to run on the G. These 2 R179s running could be js the CBTC testing as well as the R160 shortage, not sure.

They REALLY don't need more, unless the TA is planning on service changes, which they honestly aren't. Because of this, the 435 R211 order became the First REPLACEMENT FLEET FOR THE R68. The 268 will be a "small fleet" of 300 plus cars, to finish the rest of the SMEE fleet. I'm going to assume the 268s will be identical to the 211s with minor improvements as is the norm. Another guess is the fact that the 268 will most likely be B2 cars, running out of Stillwell,along with Option 2 R211a cars. It's pretty clear that we are seeing the beginnings of a massive fleet replacement and swap out. The MTA is going to make sure EVERY B Division line is comprised of 60ft cars,NTT technology,CBTC equipped,by at least 2030. They are also committed to removing the R62/62a cars with the new R262 cars. The 300 plus R62 fleet, plus 800 plus R62a equal about 1,100 plus cars the 262s will send to the great beyond. The MTA will order 1500 new cars for this. With this now being public information, I am curious about what rolling stock will be purchased for the new IBX LRT route. I've seen plenty of pictures of models of light rail vehicles depicted running along the route, but the lastest shows a version of the lastest LAMTA LRT fleet, except the TA version is five car sets, not married pairs. It's a Wonderful waiting game, and I love it. Keep it coming.
The G, L and R are likely getting R179s next, given how the E, F and M have already received R179s, and how they came in both four and five car sets. We should expect these on the R very soon.

Yeah 40 (approx) R160s from JYRD are OOS because of this issue but the T/O still wants to test the R179s on QBL especially the Fast Express runs. But 1 more set could've been added to fill the gap 🤷♂️ im not 100% sure tbh

Though speaking seriously for a sec, I do hope they test em on the R at some point too, that would be fun to see I just hope when 211s come in after Pitkin and 207 are done replacing 46s that some go to QBL…that would be cool to see
@ you’ll always get a slow ride sometimes, same can be said with the R160. But when you compare them at the same speed, the R179s are usually a bit faster and they’re much more smooth than the R160s

The R179s are honestly faster than the R160s
Not at all. The MAL was bugging yesterday multiple times. These rides you see were me getting lucky twice with 48 and 50 mph.
