Bro...I just looked up the amount you won, after deducting for tax...you were 100% correct to be frugal. If you walked away with 10M you could easily live well for the rest of your life as long as you didn't develop a case of "ballerism".

Sudden wealth syndrome is brutally real for me, almost tearfully. It's sobering how quick loved ones can turn... Still if they had it, most likely others would not bail us out. We've got to be wise stewards of money.

I made a deal with my girlfriend that we only gift money to our immediate families no matter what. Almost as a repayment for raising us.

There are many ways to help others after winning the lottery, one of them is open a company and give them job ☺️

I felt this even from my job gaining more money than most, money is nice but if you are surrounded by people without it, can become a drag. But it’s prepared me for crypto as I know my investments are good, done my research, big money coming in the future. Already isolated. Family do get more bitter when you buy new things and this is just from having a good paid job. Don’t let their envy consume you. If someone’s winning or doing well around me, I’m genuinely happy for them, but that comes from just being happy with nothing

This is much like 'survivor guilt,' which my father and many of his military friends suffered from as they had been prisoners of war in N.Korea during the Korean War.

"Sudden Wealth Syndrome" not only includes lottery winners. After struggling financially the first seven years of marriage, I finally landed the great professional opportunity I always wanted for our marriage. My ex-now opted for divorce for other reasons 2 months before I started my new job opportunity. So we divorced and away I went to my new job. It was very hard getting all that money and not feeling guilty about not being able to share it with my wife knowing she would struggle financially after divorce. A year later she called and I sent her some money I did not have to give her, legally speaking. Our divorce was a "clean cut". So you have an idea... it was soooo difficult for me to go to a restaurant and spend $25 (2007). It took me some time to readapt and snap out of that guilt. I hope this contributes to some people, my two cents of going thru SWS after divorce.

I've never won anything over $300, but I have comfort knowing that I won't feel a drop of guilt (when/if I win) to those around me because of what they put me through.

My wife and I have spoken extensively about our own abundant outpouring. We know, as a topic of conversation, “helping everybody” actually is harmful to them without them having a desire elevate their own level of responsibility! Now, as a matter of practice, for us, knowing this and living this would be two completely different things. However we are less likely to be blindsided by “as many” of these syndromes because we listen to Timothy Schultz and others. We talk about the guilt, isolation, loosing old friends, making new friends, family relationships, etc!

This is of the MOST important videos to watch! It teaches you about the actual feelings of winning and how to handle it. As a former psyche student, I thank Tim for this. And as for isolation, I'm an introvert anyway and I honestly love it! One or two friends and even less family. 😄😁

I feel like I’ve been learning my way out of sudden wealth syndrome, even though I haven’t won the lottery yet. We grew up richer than most of our peers. I do think it’s real. It’s certainly feels like it’s at the root of a lot of hardship I’ve put myself through. I realize now that I deserve any wealth that comes to me and I’m doing my best to be better at managing and growing that wealth.

If you don't have much family and only about 5 real true friends, your in a great position to win the lottery. This has been the case for myself in the last 10 yrs so I'm just waiting for my numbers to come up on a jackpot win on the Lotto 6-49 here in Canada.

"FAIRNESS." I was a homeless person. You're saying that it's not fair. It IS fair. It is the result of your life choices. I spent a year and a half homeless on the streets of San Diego. That year and a half was REQUIRED learning that helped to get me where I am today. Today I am CEO of my own publishing company, I have my own recording studio, I've worked behind the scenes with more than a few celebrities, and done most of it through a haze of chronic pain and advanced arthritis. I would NOT be where I am today without having gone through adversity. So never feel guilty for the homeless. The ones that die on the streets deserve it. The ones that make it off the streets deserve it because they work for it and they pursue knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.

Thanks for preparing us. Being elderly that I am, it sounds like it's best just to not tell the relatives; they can wait for their inheritance.

I get a chuckle out the behaviour of people when someone they know wins big. They feel entitled for some reason. I don’t hear about how they chipped in the thousands of dollars the winner may of spent in the time he or she has played the lottery. My neighbour years ago won a substantial jackpot. I never once thought, what’s in it for me. I wished him well, continued the same relationship we had as neighbours.
