Besides I hate the fact IMAX enhanced is locked to IMAX certified TV's, the image quality is great. Downside is there's no lossless audio and movies aren't encoded in 24p
Yes I agree, for example I recently bought the 4k UHD Harry Potter movie bundle from Vudu and I'm wondering if I should create a movies anywhere account and stream those movies from there instead.
Movies anywhere is vastly inferior to iTunes. Idk why he keeps promoting MA. Even Sony only shows their movies in HDR and 5.1 on MA when that same movie is Dolby vision and atmos on itunes
Hi everyone! Good to be back home. Lots of great content in the works, and we have a holiday coming up that we are working around. See you on the next video, and soon!
Thanks for flying over to Japan and making that great video. I know you can't talk about the specifics of what you learned on your trip but I do just have one question, if you can provide us with just a little bit more context: Is what you saw over there at the Sony offices in any way related to advancements in AI and/or how Sony goes about implementing it in their A/V products?
@@Caleb_Denisonno problem, just wasn't sure how much flexibility on any of that they had given you so I thought I would check. Thanks. Can't wait for the formal announcements in Spring. Already looking like it's going to be yet another terrific year of new Sony product roll outs!
For the A95L and the KEF Center, another option is add a new Sony Receiver which can process and combine the S-Center input with the surround speaker creating a lifted (or lowered) center channel to match the center of the screen.
As someone who is getting their first Sony TV next year, I appreciated this Sony centric "You Asked" episode. Also, shoutout to you for getting to go to Japan and visit Sony HQ. After hearing you use the word "gamechanging" I'm even more interested to see what new products Sony has coming out next year, particularly in the TV and audio segments. Also, yes I would LOVE to see a future video comparing different streaming services to Movies Anywhere.
You definitely need to have a look at what a X90 (and maybe X85) or 95 and above can do with they Acoustic and Acoustic+ setup if TV is paired with a Sony Soundbar (eg. A5000+Sub). I was reaaaaly impressed when I heard a demo in the store.
I would definitely like you to compare streaming services. Particularly Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Google Play and Movies Anywhere. Purchased movies preferably. A comparison between different video content (4k and 1080p) would be good too because no one's done that kind of breakdown.
Seems like I thought up the same thing as many others, I enjoyed your discussion of the quality of bravia core. Really there's a great deal of questions around streaming and the best picture, comparative quality. Who delivers the best picture? Sound? The different services, bit rate, decoders, support hardware, tv versus external, which upscaling? Bluray 4k vs... bandwidth needed, vendor quality. There are so many variations it feels like it could be a channel or multiple channels content in itself. There just doesn't seem to be much info out there on much that affects the actual quality of delivery in most people's real life. Thanks for what you do.
I always like these Q&A episodes. One from Tokyo is cool! Would enjoy a comparison of the streams with the Movies Anywhere, also Movies Anywhere with physical media.
Great video, but now you have thrown a wrench into my TV upgrade plans wondering what game changing plans Sony has for 2024. Hmmmm are they related to TV’s or other Sony products?? Just when I thought had it narrowed down to 2 choices!! 🤔🤔
Yes please do the comparison between all the streaming services at their best quality. Do the five major ones Apple, Netflix, RUclips, Amazon, Bravia core..

Also setup movies anywhere using a VPN set to the US and link your Apple ID google account to it. You will have to use that apple I'd or google account on an apple TV or google TV device in order to download the movies anywhere app. Once you redeem the digital codes via the movies anywhere website you will be able to stream from the app on your tv
@@danemoreno88exactly my feelings as well. I watched them both side by side in the showroom and you can definitely see a difference, but it’s not a big enough one to justify the price.
I saw the 77 A80L right above 77 A95L at Best Buy and the difference was pretty noticeable but not night and day. I was going to buy the 77 A95L for my family room and move my 65 A95K to my bedroom, but I just couldn’t afford the $5K price tag, so I ended up buying the 55 A80L for the bedroom for $1,399. Hope you had a good time in Japan. If I may ask, I’m thinking of getting the A95l 77 with the HT-A9, from your visit to Sony is there a possibility that they will reveal a successor for the A9?
Hey Caleb. Just an FYI, Top Gun Maverick is a Paramount Pictures movie so it will not appear on Bravia Core. Only on Paramount+. And as for Bravia Core, it will rebrand as Sony Pictures Core across the bird on TVs and already currently on the Sony PlayStation platforms. Hope you enjoyed Japan. Haven’t been back since before the pandemic. Tokyo is my favorite city outside the US.
A small note about Sony Pictures Core... it's not the same bitrate on PS4/PS5 as it is on 'Bravia Core' of other devices. It's much lower. Probably similar to other streaming services. (So no 'pure stream')
I would love a quality companion between different streaming apps. However, I would also be interested in audio quality. I know I can get the DTS:X audio for IMAX Enhanced movies with Bravia Core but is the audio quality any better? It seems most streaming services stick to Dolby Atmos to a varrying degree of compression. It isn't clear to me if some are better for audio than others.
Bravia Core actually streams a lossy DTS 5.1 track labeled as IMAX DTS by my receiver but has no height channels. Thankfully most movies on there now also have Dolby Atmos (albeit also lossy, Dolby Digital Plus, as with all streamed Atmos tracks). I’ve only seen DTS:X content on disc and never on a streaming service, I imagine bc as far as I know it can only be used within a lossless codec (DTS-HD MA) which most TVs and streaming devices except the Shield can’t process/output (just like Dolby TrueHD)
I would love that Movies Anywhere comparison. I've always been curious how different streaming services fair against each other. I've also been curious if my hunch that Hulu is either the worst or among the worst is correct.

I’ve been wondering about the viability of using a Sony panel as a center channel for some time. Thanks for your thorough assessment. And yes, I would definitely be interested in seeing some streaming bitrate comparisons in a future video. Cheers
Sony Hong Kong is not responding to my contact attempts (about 6 now) regarding issues with my HT-A9. ‘If we don’t respond he will go away’. HT-A9 is the most troublesome audio system I have ever owned. Despite all troubleshooting attempts, the voices only come from front left speaker. I am forced to use A80J as centre speaker. Sony, please contact me.
To the R6 Meta person, I'm assuming you're talking about using the A95L as a 2nd center channel with an AVR that allows that and having it act as positional audio by firing a split second before the R6 center channel. It would be an amazing test for sure to see what it adds. If it does work well and I don't know anyone who has tested it, it would be quite impressive.
Absolutely, because those USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapters are only around $25 and they can feed data into your XR-based Sony TV (through the USB 3.0 port on the back) at up to 375 Mbps. Far in excess of what the 100 Base-T connection on the back of the TV can handle.
I'm probably the only one who still wants this, but that x90/93/95L and the OLEDs in 4k with options for glasses free 3D and doesn't break the bank would make my day ( it's fun to dream)😊
I would love a comparison of the Streaming formats, in my experience Bravia Core is by far the best, then Apple TV, then Netflix, Then either amazon or Disney
I can't imagine anyone with an AV and expensive home theatre speakers like the one mentioned in the video would actually use the TV speakers for the most critical sound source where the dialog takes place. In a B&W system, the most expensive and critical speaker has always been the center channel.
A true test of streaming quality would have to include different hardware also adding a lot of work but hope you make it happen… thank for all you work great content
Any experience with the center channel "lift" function when using a Sony AVR and A95L? My center is not at ear level (more knee level) and interested in that feature.
Just got the A95L set up today. I wonder if there is a way to fix the latency issue I’m having with the blu ray player, which is a brand new Sony one. I have everything connected to a brand new Sony A/V receiver. No latency with the TV’s built-in apps. Software on all devices is the latest. Using eArc HDMI port on TV to receiver. I notice the latency is a bit worse with 4K disc than with DVD or blu ray discs. I have A/V sync set to auto with the player and the TV. Don’t know what else to do.
Sony representative if you are reading the comments, please make a X95L likee monitor next year. The viewing angle technology you folks used for a mini-led tv would be freaking awesome on a 49 inch or 57 inch curved monitor.
Yes please do a comparison between a series of specific films between physical media, digital marketplaces and streaming services. A film like Avengers Endgame compared with the 4K Blu-ray, IMAX enhanced D+ version, movies anywhere and iTunes/Apple would be such an example.
I got a question Why when you order toast with your breakfast in Oregon do they only give you one slice? Everywere else you get 2 slices. Then they dont let you pump your own gas? Why? Thanks for the Tokyo Sony tour. Love your stuff.
I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that Sony will likely skip CES with respect to their TV products again this year and host a Sony-only CES-like even a few weeks after, just like they did last year. That way, all in attendance are 100% focused in exclusively on Sony's products at the time with no other distractions or "noise" from other companies to get lost in. The problem they ran into last year was NOT telling the public that they were going to do that right at the end of their Keynote CES presentation which talked about all their other products. They SHOULD have put up one final slide at the end of the presentation saying, "Come join us for our 2023 Sony TV Launch Event at X location on Y date", but they didn't do that. This was a HUGE mistake/oversight on their part because it left many speculating that Sony might even have been planning to get out of the TV business altogether. Well, we obviously know that they aren't, but they need to make absolutley sure that's not a mistake that is repeated again this year. They need to be VERY clear and specific about EXACTLY when and where their TV launch event will be and that information needs to be communicated out to the public during CES so there is NO confusion this time around about Sony's plans or intentions for their new TV and A/V products.
Hey Kaleb? I am so much confused what sound system robuste? Would you recommend the theatre bar 9 with my Sony A 95 L or rather the HTa 9‘pr theatre squad. The squad for my taste is too expensive and can’t decide between HTA 9 or theatre bar 9 which just comes out new. Did. You get the chance tonlisten to both? What’s your personal opinion?
Do a movies anywhere vs apple tv vs sony bravia core. As far as I've experienced bravia core is GOAT. They even do special scans/prints pf sony entertainment movies specially made for bravia core say imax versions & that too with higher bit rate than 4k bd.
I could be wrong, but here's what my gut tells me regarding Sony's 2024 display lineup. The A95L came out so late this year and has such a new GUI and new gaming features that I think it will remain as the flagship for 2024 and lead the way for their 2024 display lineup. Being that Sony purchases the rights to use LG and Samsung panels, I have a feeling the A80M will use LG's MLA panels, as well as add the A95L's GUI and gaming features. I have a feeling that all the LCD displays, including the X95M, X93M, X90M, X85M, X80M, X77M, and X75M, will maintain their current internal components and add the A95L's new GUI and new gaming features. Being that Sony took Full Array Local Dimming non-Mini LED as far as they could with the X90L and being that I'm not a gamer, I don't think the X90M will make me regret getting the X90L when I did. After experience with displays, receivers, and disc players since 2004, I can't help noticing patterns and how long patterns last. Agree?
I hope you are wrong for every detail you listed! I want all M models to exceed 2023 levels. I have FOMO, missed 2022, then I thought, Christmas is here, Sony will announce in 3 months, so I skipped 2023 as well! Hoping 2024 will give me a better X90M or X93M, if they carry it anymore. Do not think I can afford a X95M, unless that is the new X93 and they make and X100M. Which I doubt, but it sounds cool.
Hi there. Recently found your channel and thanks alot for all the great advice. Unfortunately some of these tvs aren’t available in South Africa and I would like to know, should I get a 65”Hisense u8k going for around a thousand dollars or shell or an extra 800dollars for the 65” Samsung qn90c. Tcl qm8 is not available, best I could find in a tcl is a c845 🤷🏻♂️ thanks again hope you can help me. I’m currently using an old 55” uhd curved Samsung.
I have the Sony X90L. The movies in the Bravia core app is so incredibly dark I played with all the settings and can't figure out a way to improve it. I've tried several different movies, and they all look like they were shot on incredibly cloudy dark days and the indoor shots make it seem like the lights are barely on. This is the only app to do this even if I use Dolby Vision bright with the different brightness functions at Max. I can watch the same movies on other apps or on my 4K discs and they look great. Is this just a me thing?
When I bought A80J a couple years ago it had Bravia Core which enabled me to purchase movies with credits I received with the television. However you can’t get anymore credits from Sony so when you used up the ones I got from purchasing the television you were finished with Bravia Core. Didn’t make much sense to me.
You still get credits when purchasing a Master Series OLED from Sony. Once those credits are spent you can buy individual titles. That has been changed a while ago.
Hi Caleb, I am planning to buy a Sony OLED Tv and as you know they have only two 2.1 HDMI ports. Wondering if I can use my receiver (Pioneer VSX- LX305) that has 6 8K HDMI ports to compensate lack of 2.1 ports on TV? Will it work or I may run into some issues?
Ok, I've finally made the decision to treat myself to a Samsung OLED TV. There's just one last bit of information/opinion I'd like to get from you before I make the final decision on which one to buy. Is there a real significant enough difference in the HDR10 vs. HDR10 Plus for me to choose the S95C 77" over the S90C 77"? I will be purchasing a Sony 4k Blu-ray player for either one I get. Hopefully, I will get a reply before black Friday. HAPPY HOLIDAYS 🍾
Very happy and satisfied with the 83' A80L. Sony needs to dive into XLarge TV market. Looking to fill the living room with 100-110" TV. I don't want a tcl or highsense brand, but come 2024 when 110 is on sale. No choice unless Sony gets in the game w similar pricing. XLarge TVs are going to be a thing moving fwd. Hisense proved it with their 100" selling out in mins on each restock.
Regarding the streaming. Does an Apple tv for streaming really makes a huge difference? And if yes, why so? Is it just because you ‚relieve‘ the load from the tv? Or is it higher bitrate on Apple tv compared to regular streaming apps on the tv itself? Thanks in advance!
Caleb are you able to drop some hints? Is the secret you saw at Sony HQ, related to the X90L's successor at all? I'm thinking of getting the X90L but if its successor next year is going to be a significant upgrade e.g equipped with the Pentonic chipset or further increased the number of dimming zones, a heads up or a hint will be great!
At what point / range do Sony offer the option for the TV to be a dedicated centre speaker with speaker terminals to the rear of the TV? Is it an OLED only option? A ‘Master Series’ only Option?
Yes! Please do the comparison of the streaming apps. I'd love to see that. I'd also love to see how Bravia Core compares to physical media.

He has me interested on what they have in store for 2024….
Would love to see a streaming comparison bitrate wise!
I think the big appeal there is for those that simply do not have room for an external center channel speaker in their setup.
A true test of streaming quality would have to include different hardware also adding a lot of work but hope you make it happen… thank for all you work great content
Will be nice streaming comparison appel tv vs Nvidia shield
Any experience with the center channel "lift" function when using a Sony AVR and A95L? My center is not at ear level (more knee level) and interested in that feature.
I wonder love to see a comparison between Movies Anywhere and other streaming services. Thanks.
Thank you for your comment. I'll be sure to address your concerns to our Bravia team.
Yes pls see the comparison
Now I’m debating, get A95L now or wait for new one next year or get a G3
I hope you had a chance to ask them about PFS Phosphors vs Traditional Quantum Dots and then advertising both as Triluminos Displays!
Love your stuff.
even just a comparison between different streaming services would be great
Does anybody know if Sony TVs will make an appearance at CES 2024? Or will they do their own event some time later like they did in 2023?
Last year was the first year they stayed away (maybe chip shortage or covid related?).
Hope they will be there in January, CES without Sony sucks
@@aakar88 They not only skipped last CES, they also launched their TVs later than usual. I hope that was just a fluke.
@@shmookins I do to, hope they come up with something in the first quarter that will blow away Apple’s big AppleVision launch!!
I can't wait, thanks CD
I would love to see comparison of streaming quality from different streaming apps (Bravia core included)
I want the sony a95l but should i wait until they release the newer models anytime that the tv goes down in price
I'd like to see the comparisons of the streaming services.
If you do a streaming comparison, please add in the 4K bluray as a control.
You have both the kef center and tv speaker with a sony avr
Since information is embargoed. Would you suggest buying a Sony A95L now or waiting to next years models knowing what you know
would it be possible for you to make a list of best tvs to buy over 80 inches ?
I know it's a long shot but it would be so cool if "game changer" meant QDEL is going to hit the market in 2024.
Please do a comparison video between streaming apps!!!!
Hey Caleb. When you back and rested any chance you can share information whether blue Pholed will be used in 2024 Sony Oled TV’s?
At what point / range do Sony offer the option for the TV to be a dedicated centre speaker with speaker terminals to the rear of the TV? Is it an OLED only option? A ‘Master Series’ only Option?
I would love a comparison between movies anywhere and Disney +
Hi Sir
I am currently having 65 inch X90h, should it be worth to upgrade to X90L 75. Or should wait for 2024 models. Please advise
There is only a need for a 4,000 nit master monitor if they are going to release 4,000 nit TVs.
