Here are fifteen sick and heavy groove metal guitar riffs for intermediate guitar players with tabs in the description! For those who want to learn metal style riffs ;) Be sure to already play for a couple of time! Metal is a demanding genre, so be patient with your progress! We are looking at some true classics such as Pantera, White Zombie, Sepultura, Soulfly, Fear Factory, Damage Plan and others like Five Finger Death Punch, Oversense, Slipknot and Ghost! I wanted the bands to be various which is why there is only one riff per band in this riff list! Also the tunings vary and yes, I played everything on that guitar. How is this possible? Check my gear ;) Not every band is also a "full" groove metal band but these riffs are definitely groove metal. Groove is my favorite genre and is what I look for in most bands, even non-groove metal ones, especially metalcore, deathcore, melo death, tech death, prog, djent, etc. I have to be able to headbang.

Also, I consider many nu metal bands to fall under groove metal, especially Slipknot. Some are just heavy-funk-metal (Korn) and others are more rapcore punk (Limp Bizkit). That said, some people like to say they aren't, because of the "nu metal" tag. Both Slipknot and System of a Down are disputed as not being entirely nu metal, though they may associate with the scene. I think Scott Ian said they both should fall under thrash, and it's there in their sound.
And what it means about Alternative Metal? But Disturbed will be wrongly called as "nu metal" and that isn't trve! In reality they are just heavy metal/hard rock.

I remember back in the 80's & 90's Heavy Metal being focused on the juicy lead guitar riffs & the song structure wasn't more complicated than your average pop song. But late 90's on up to present, metal has focused more on complicated, syncopated, or polyrhythmic patterns the best Simon Says players can't duplicate without a sampler. Art imitates life, so it stands to reason. Anyway, high 5 on the chops. You played em great.

The technical struggles were worth it. That was absolutely amazing! Pantera should be the biggest name om the thumbnail since Pantera is the greatest groove metal band and because they created the sub genre groove metal.

That laid to rest riff is one of my favorite riffs to play on my list.
