Wow, Father Mike, you have, once again, left me speechless with your homily. Strange how we grew up knowing the meaning of the mass, but we all need a reminder of its true meaning, once in a while and you have done it perfectly. Thank you for bringing the true meaning for attending Mass to our attention. I will definitely see and worship at Mass with more devotion after listening to you. You are awesome. I will keep you and other priests in my prayers.

      @GiovaniBriguente 2 месяца назад +5

@@pasalasagaEvery motion, movement, and gesture in the liturgy is external but they convey the faith that is internal. When the priest places his hands over the gifts, he truly believes the Holy Spirit is coming down and therefore, his gesture is efficacious, it truly makes the Holy Spirit to come down. The same happens when we bow to the name of Jesus. If we just bow without thinking, it is just a physical movement. But if we bow because we truly believe His name deserves the honor and respect of a King, then our bow is efficacious.

You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
and all you have created rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy,
and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting
a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:
Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you:
by the same Spirit graciously make holy
these gifts we have brought to you for consecration,
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice together, saying:
that they may become the Body and + Blood
of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
    He joins his hands.
at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.
For on the night he was betrayed
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
    he himself took bread,
and, giving you thanks, he said the blessing,
broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying:
    He bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,
    FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and genuflects in adoration.
    After this, he continues:
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
    he took the chalice,
and, giving you thanks, he said the blessing,
and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying:
    He bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
    FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in adoration.
    Then he says:
    The mystery of faith.
    And the people continue, acclaiming:
We proclaim your Death, O Lord,
    and profess your Resurrection
    until you come again.
    Or:
When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup,
we proclaim your Death, O Lord,
    until you come again.
    Or:
Save us, Savior of the world,
for by your Cross and Resurrection
    you have set us free.
Then the Priest, with hands extended, says:
    Therefore, O Lord,
    as we celebrate the memorial
of the saving Passion of your Son,
    his wondrous Resurrection
    and Ascension into heaven,
and as we look forward to his second coming,
    we offer you in thanksgiving
    this holy and living sacrifice.
    Look, we pray,
upon the oblation of your Church
    and, recognizing the sacrificial Victim
by whose death you willed to reconcile us to yourself,
    grant that we,
who are nourished by the Body and Blood of your Son and filled with his Holy Spirit,
may become one body, one spirit in Christ.
    May he make of us
    an eternal offering to you,
so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect,
especially with the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
    with blessed Joseph, her Spouse,
with your blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
(with Saint N.: the Saint of the day or Patron Saint)
    and with all the Saints,
on whose constant intercession in your presence
    we rely for unfailing help.
May this Sacrifice of our reconciliation,
    we pray, O Lord,
advance the peace and salvation of all the world.
Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity
    your pilgrim Church on earth,
with your servant Francis our Pope
and N. our Bishop, [and his assistant Bishops]
the Order of Bishops, all the clergy,
and the entire people you have gained for your own.
Listen graciously to the prayers of this family,
whom you have summoned before you:
To our departed brothers and sisters
and to all who were pleasing to you
at their passing from this life,
give kind admittance to your kingdom.
There we hope to enjoy for ever
    the fullness of your glory
    He joins his hands.
    through Christ our Lord,
through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.
Through him, and with him, and in him,
    O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
    for ever and ever.
    The people acclaim:
    Amen.

Absolutely agree and I'm very thankful for the reminder for when I have blips with crises of faith, not Jesus, but the church on earth and let things get to me. I know we are all sinners, "but" I get upset at things like this because of things like that: things like this: silence, refusal to talk about the"hard things" of the times (that is not charitable as it keeps people stuck and not know where to go for help - avoidance is not love) ..things like that: that I am fearless in talking to patients, family, friends, strangers, whoever, about truth so that they are not led to more sin and pain, loneliness and hardships that could be helped, prevented and healed when we are not silence "in fear of offending" (which may more be like, not wanting to be not liked...it's not about the priest. I'm also upset often that there isn't real resources presented to people outside of confession of a sin. Sin is self medication for wounds. The lack of connectivity is what drives people away too. I'm just inviting this as a reminder, to remember why it's understandable. I'm a single, chaste women actively open to marriage and family, serving as a nurse and other roles, and yes we all sin, but with what I know as a Catholic nurse, I can't and wouldn't just go get IVF because I want a baby, or just marry whoever, because I don't want to be alone.......some things are not easy acceptable. Not all sins are equal when we are in positions of leadership. Yes, we are all sinners - no brainer, but for me to teach NFP and chastity, but then just use the excuse that I'm a sinner, oh well, and go have premarital sex or go do IVF. We have to be careful to not be realistic as well. I understand, I do. I just think of those who make excuses vs work on their wounds, sins and instead of making excuses, we get to work on bettering ourselves. I've met way too many gay priests for whom I pray definitely, and talk to them as well but the seminaries have to get better....they HAVE to have better screening and act like they truly want healthy, holy priests.....so yes, the attack on the church - priests! -- is very real, but are we mostly all aware of them, and do better where we can, to ensure we are not la la land for what it is needed to ensure we are doing our best to cooperate with making sure we are protecting our Church.
Thank you for your homilies and explanations.

Father Mike and Father Chris Alar and Edward Sri have longer , detail videos on the Mass. They are life changing! Edward Sri has an amazing book, A Biblical Walk Through the Mass. I've read it 3 times and each time I get more from it.
