  • I am obsessed with the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and have been since I worked there in 1996 in Room Reservations. I frequently return and in the 3 times I returned to hotel in the last 6 months I felt compelled to develop my own "documentary" of what I love about the hotel. This is just basically me walking through the different areas of the hotel confessing my love for it and at the same time revealing some historical facts about this amazing place.

I worked at BSH in the summers of 1963 and '63. At that time the hotel was open only in the summer and almost all of the service staff were university students from across Canada and a few from abroad - Uk, South Africa, Australia. The housemaids lived in the towers which apparently today are much-desired guest rooms. Most of the other staff lived in the annex (accessed via a tunnel) or the smaller residence down toward the golf clubhouse - why can't I remember its name? All the staff ate in the "Beanery" in the hotel basement. Now these areas, too, are guest rooms it appears. It was a great summer job.

Hey John. Love that thank you! Yeah the Bean I think it was called and not the Beanery was there when in worked where in 96 too. I loved eating the cheap lunches there from the vending machines! Lol. I think the area you are referring too where staff used to stay was the Manor and Tudor wing as it was called when I was there. Love that place! Great memories!

    Hey thanks for the video.
I'm hoping to book a room here for a week this summer.
Was the room you showed a deluxe room? What is the difference between a deluxe room and a fairmont room considering such a big price difference with no visual differences in the pictures.

Hi! Thanks for watching my video! It's been so long since I worked there that I don't exactly know what they call the room we were in. However I know that the Fairmont Rooms are normally a little smaller and the Deluxe Rooms are larger. It used to be more expensive based on the view but now it is based on the size mostly I believe. Anyway check out their website as it will give you more information. www.fairmont.com/banff-springs/accommodations/ Enjoy!

When did you work here in 1996? I was still in Vancouver at the time....and I do not remember this?

Its the reason I came to Canada on a working Visa in 1996. I didn't move to Vancouver until 2000 after a couple of years in Edmonton too. :)

@@redlegs99 I thought you came to Canada before 1996. I feel like I knew you for 100 years, and I arrived in Vancouver 1970???? Do you mean that I only knew you for 10 years????? WOW, THAT BLOWS MY MIND!! Honestly I thought I knew you in the 90's.....first met you at the Travel Group!! Haven't watched all this as yet, but I know that I am going to enjoy it!!

Why did you even bother to show the pictures in the gallery? You didn't even let us see them or explain any of them

Hi, I thought it would make the video even longer by spending more time on the pics. I thought at least one could pause the video to look at them further.
