I laughed so hard you two trying that water and Jay’s jokes about the color of it, plus his comment about how his body is reacting to it. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeeeeeah, and we were a few hours away from the port area when that happened as well, hah... way on the other side of the island, I believe. Wooooo!! :P
We were in Ponta Delgada last summer on our transatlantic cruise. What an amazing island! So beautiful. We were able to go to the park that you guys didn't get to and one of the cool things they did there was restaurants from around the area would cook their food in giant pots in the calderas. Each separate caldera was assigned to a different restaurant. It was neat and nothing like we would see here at home! Glad you enjoyed your time there and can't wait to see the rest of the series!
@@judysmith9552 we actually did too! It was pretty good! They also brought around pineapple that was grown in the region. It was probably the best pineapple I've ever had. The whole experience was very unique!
That was a great day! I realised when I started watching that I really didn`t know much about the Azores; so will be going on the interwebs to remedy that situation! It really did look like a lot of different places like Dee said. So glad I can travel vicariously through you guys!
I was thinking, as I was watching the places you were visiting how much they reminded me of other places! Especially reminded me of Hawaii and even had the sulfur pits like at the volcano on the big island ☺️
The footage when the van wouldn’t start cracked me up! That is a fear of mine booking independent tours, but we’ve never had an issue…well, unless you count the time our driver stopped to get her daughter some dinner on the way back to the ship, then stopped AT HER HOUSE to deliver said dinner. It was pretty sketch but made a fun story! 😂 Glad they made it right for y’all and you got back safe and sound!
The sulfur swamp reminded me of a scene from the movie Labyrinth, the stinky swamp, where the characters walked across the rocks and they pooted every step.😊😊.
Wow, I really love that guitar music! What is it? I tried to look in the transcript… Maybe there’s another place it’s listed? I love you guys, so much! I’ve been watching you for years, but this year, I’m looking for a special cruise, and I wanted to go on icon of the seas, but as I’m seeing the first glimpses, the style is just not exactly what I’m looking for, and although this ship is small comparatively, it’s beautiful. and I had no idea the Azores were so gorgeous! Thank you for all of your videos, but this one is. Really beautiful. And that guitar music does it justice.
All the random background music comes from our Epidemic Sound subscription! They have a lot of fun tunes on there, ha ha. We're slated for Icon Of The Seas on a three-day preview as well as the seven-day inaugural sailing, so we'll see how it goes. She's a big ship for sure!! :D
Good morning Dee and Jay. I thought you were going to show us what happens when you take a private tour and you don't make it back to the ship on time. Glad it worked out. I actually laughed out loud when you were trying all the waters. 😂. Beautiful pictures as always Dee. As always thank you for all you do ❤❤
we went on a viviator island tour when we were in the azores and there was so many hydranges all along the mountain side. instead of fences the farms planted hydranges all along their properties to keep their cows on their property,
Loved watching this vlog! My husbands family lives there. We got to go in May of 2022. There is so much to see!! You huus definitely need to make another visit, naybe for a week.
Been to Ponta Delgado 3 times on 3 TA's. Always been sunny and beautiful. On our first private tour, the van died as well. Problem was solved quickly. ❤
Yes it did work out. BTW, near the end of your tour, Jay noticed a tower in the distance. It is the Lookout/ Bell tower. We've climbed the 106 narrow stairs to see the 360 degree views. Beautiful ❤️
Good afternoon Jay & Dee, I enjoy the different islands of the Azores can't wait to go back there. It was fun to have a peek of Sao Miguel. It looks like you all enjoyed the trip.
Dee just curious the name brand of your black backpack? I love watching all your videos, it’s nice to see the areas you travel. Portugal is on my buck list.
It's in our Amazon shop! The one we carried around on our tours was a roll-top waterproof backpack we bought so that we could take our valuables into the water with us when we swim, but it turned out to be a handy little all-around bag. If you don't need the waterproof-ness, we'd suggest the small Tripped backpack in our Amazon shop instead!! :D parodeejay.com/amazon/
We have a transatlantic booked for next year. My husband says he's been researching and typically transatlantic cruises are not full ships. Do you remember the occupancy of this cruise? Sold out?
We r going to be landing in Lisbon in April going on the viva. What means of transportation did you use to get to the airport to the hotel n the hotel to the cruise port. We would be most grateful for yr advice. Thanks
Was on the same cruise and did similar excursion from NCL.. Definetly you've got much more from your private van excursion than you could get from NCL orginized.
The Azores are just off the coast of (and technically part of) Portugal, so I guess a European country in this case, but still something to always keep in mind, true!! :P
Jay's face while that van wont start is great!
If "Sweet Caroline" had come on the van radio at the same time, it would have been a perfect moment... :P
That face that Jay made when the car wouldn’t start is the same face he makes when he hears Sweet Caroline.
When the replacement taxi showed up, it was "so good, so good, so good"!! :P
I spent a couple of years as a small child here as we used to have a Navy base on the islands. I don't remember much but this was awesome to see.
I laughed so hard you two trying that water and Jay’s jokes about the color of it, plus his comment about how his body is reacting to it. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I never realized the Azores were so beautiful!
We didn't either! What a pleasant surprise!! :D
Omg. I would be freaking out when the van didn’t start. New gear unlocked! 😮😂
Yeeeeeah, and we were a few hours away from the port area when that happened as well, hah... way on the other side of the island, I believe. Wooooo!! :P

we had a lunch that was included on our tour and we ate food from the calderas.surprisingly the food was very good and had no taste of sulfur.

Looks just like the bubbling sulphur in Iceland. I can still smell that from when I visited in 2016. LOL

We'd done almost zero research on The Azores, but were surprised how beautiful everything was! What a fun day!! :D
Alaska, Hawaii, and Iceland vibes combined. Lots of Portuguese from the Azores came to our part of Canada and miss its particular beauty and charm.
I was thinking, as I was watching the places you were visiting how much they reminded me of other places! Especially reminded me of Hawaii and even had the sulfur pits like at the volcano on the big island ☺️

Funny! It's a smell you don't soon forget, for sure!! :P

Very excited to see where my people are from. Some day would like to go there.
Gorgeous even in foggy weather. Thank you so much for sharing
We had no idea what beauty The Azores held, even in the foggy weather, hah!! :D
I’m at 10:15 in the video and appreciating Jay’s humor so much 😂😂😂☠️☠️☠️
Also, at the taps ‘this is not great, you should try it’ 😂
Always LOVE seeing Phots By Dee because they are an excellent group snapshot of the tour experience! Loved the video!

Yeeeeeah, this vlog almost turned into one of *those* horror story videos, ha ha... but fortunately there were some taxi friends to save the day!! :P

It looks very Welsh too.
It doesn't matter that it's foggy,it's still a beautiful view. 👋💕🇦🇺

Oh wow, vehicle issues as well? That's crazy, but glad it worked out, as ours did!! :D

Outstanding ports, I always love Europe cruises. Ship's observation lounge looks nice but may be undersized? But it looks very nice.
Wonderful photos by Dee keep up good work ❤❤❤❤
Thankee thankee!! :D

We had an amazing first visit to The Azores, and now we need to check out some of the other islands. Wow!! :D
Nice video, as usual🙂🚢
Thanks so much!! :D
Great tour again. Looks like a geologist’s favorite place.
It reminded us so much of Iceland with all the craggy rocks and sulphur springs and whatnot... super cool!! :D

Dee you have just said what I was thinkinv. Retro made me think of Alaska. I know I haven't been there.
We have a transatlantic booked for next year. My husband says he's been researching and typically transatlantic cruises are not full ships. Do you remember the occupancy of this cruise? Sold out?
I believe they said we were sailing with 1,100 to 1,300 fewer passengers than what she could hold, depending on who we asked, so that was nice!! :D
have y'all ever done a river cruise here in the States?
We haven’t yet!!
We r going to be landing in Lisbon in April going on the viva. What means of transportation did you use to get to the airport to the hotel n the hotel to the cruise port. We would be most grateful for yr advice. Thanks
We used taxis and Ubers for our transportation needs!! :D

Also drinking water in a South American country….. ummm 🤔 I thought that was a no no….
