At 12:28 I'm glad somebody like Wild at Heart you're my kind of guy Retro i do like that Nicolas Cage movie directed by David Lynch thank you for showing it in this video.
Thanks, that was mine, although that’s not Wonder Woman, tis Donna Troy! Was gonna have her Darkstar costume, yet decided I’d create a new design based on elements from her different outfits, from Titans, and Darkstar, and her newer costume from recent years. I actually thought she was looking Wonder Woman-esque while drawing her, yet with Donna’s origins, I think that’s perfectly fine!
That character on 10:16 is not Wonder Woman. That's an old Marvel villain called Thundra. She used to show up a lot in old Fantastic Four comics from the 70's and is frequently associated with them but hasn't been used much lately.
Ooh yeah Gil Elvgren, that classic pinup Norman Rockwell style, I'd love to do a video about that style in the future. I made 2 Frazetta videos but the results were a bit below par.. lol That's what you get when you go up against the master.
@ what makes you believe the videos were low par? Also, yeah, Frazetta was definitely a master. Unfortunately, he seems to be waning in art schools. When I was going through college in 2014-2018, I was the only student in my illustration class that even knew his name or his work. Absolutely nobody seems to remember Gil Elvgren, but his work is just as masterful, just not as fantastical. Both dudes knew what makes women attractive though. I’m pretty sure Frank was a triangle loving dude as well.
Yup he was a triangle dude, bless him. Doing his style digitally is super tricky for me, getting the paint effect and still making the shapes round is something I need to practice more. I guess it makes sense that as time goes on, and there's more and more artists in our history, some get forgotten after a while. That's why I love retro stuff and the internet, like I recently discovered George Ziel, and then there's sites with basically all his stuff. What a gift.
9:45 was mine, and thanks for your critique about the background, as I hadn’t even thought about that actually. I just wanted the red above contrasting her black and blue hair, and the blue contrasting the red from her outfit and the golden boots, while the white streaks were representing stars, but I get what you’re saying and should’ve created a ground she could stand on and not so abstract, thanks! Though, ahem, that’s not Wonder Woman, that’s Donna Troy! 😢 Was gonna have her Darkstar costume, yet decided I’d create a new design based on elements from her different outfits, from Titans, and Darkstar, and her newer costume (hence the stars) from recent years. I actually thought she was looking Wonder Woman-esque while drawing her, yet with Donna’s origins, I think that’s perfectly fine! I learned so much from your video, though, as I have such trouble seeing those different body type shapes, so thanks!
aargg why do I keep seeing Wonder Woman.. lol Sorry.. Thanks for sharing the thoughts behind your choices. I see it now and it was a good choice to flip the colors, the red of the pants on top and the blue of the chest below.
The money shot is what I've had a lot of practice with since I tended to lean more toward drawing portraits. I'll brush up on more leg studies in the future. Thanks for the critique!
My pleasure. Yes, makes sense. I have my go to favorites as well, even in camera angles etc. So the challenges help me to think outside the box as well.
I normally do these challenges, however I decided to continue practicing beforehand. I'm right now I'm on a bit of a low reference diet, while practicing perspective and observation drawing. Also because I didn't have that many good ideas to do with the pose lol. Still, fun as always to tune into your videos!
@@retrosuperheroart2202 And thank you so much, Retro, for your critique. Because of it, in the drawing for the next challenge (which I sent you a little while ago), I put more effort into the clothing folds.
12:06 Thank you soo much for the compliment. I like to draw more bulky characters, with meat on their bones, as apposed to more cut and lean figures, though theres nothing wrong with that.
You know with the placements of shadows I think that would actually be a pretty good subject for like the next video to have. Also, by the way, have you ever checked out like the cel-shade animation style of the Borderlands game it’s definitely got a nice Comic book, drawing feeling to it
Great idea! I am adding a shadow video to my to do list. Hadn't heard of Borderlands, looking at it now and are they using a different meaning of cell shading? I thought cell shading was dropping hard two tones like in Ghibli movies with some fades in the flats but most of the Borderlands cell shading content refers to that camouflage weathering effect..?
@@retrosuperheroart2202 maybe it’s just the cartoon comic book look or the thick outlines or hatching they got on the animation, but either way to me has a very cool look to it

I like Wonder Woman's costume at 9:45

Woops, thank you! I edited it in the description.
It’s all about the triangle man.
Also, I’d love to get your input on the women of Frank Frazetta, and pin-up artists like the legendary Gil Elvgren.

Cool, yes always useful to go back to basics, like bringing a notebook on the train or bus and just doodle trees and quick sketches of people.
Wow, other audio tracks. Thank you so much, Retro!! :DDD
lol, you noticed hehe
@retrosuperheroart2202 RUclips automatically switched to this video, and I loved it.

Yeah man, very cool. Can't wait to see more.
Terry Moore made a Basic Training at Wizard magazine exactly about this topic
Oh cool, I gotta track that one down.
Praise to all the women in the line up. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏
