And thank you we’re now almost two yrs doing our daughters blenderized tube feeding! Never going back to processed formula feeds! Reflux, Increased mucus secretions, constipation are some of the symptoms that went away when she went whole food plant based tube feeding- hope others will be inspired too!
Excellent video, Claire. The recipe sounds delicious and nutritious and your instructions are so clear. I’m really looking forward to what you will be sharing here in addition to on your blog.
Would love to see more videos! I'm a g-tube user and I eat a whole foods diet. I want more people to know that you CAN eat real food through a feeding tube!
@@pragyauniyal7137 I cannot give medical advice. Please consult your doctor. In caring for my own stoma and tube, I like Anasept wound spray which I purchase on Amazon. I wipe very gently with gauze or a small piece of paper towel. If there is hard crusty stuff, don't rub too hard - just wet it and let it soak with a warm washcloth for a few minutes and it will soften and wipe away easily. I also use Curad Germ Shield Wound Gel, which helps prevent both bacterial and fungal infection. At night and for a large part of the day I use Calmoseptine as a barrier to prevent acid leaking onto the skin around my stoma which also helps decrease hypergranulation tissue (proud flesh). Everyone is a little different in their stoma care practices. Keep the tube clean with soapy water when showering. As regards food, some people blend up whatever the person ate before he or she needed their feeding tube. Others, like me, choose what we feel are healthier diets for ourselves which we weren't able to eat orally for years due to dysphagia. If he has any restrictions such as diabetes, small intestine bacterial overgrowth, IBS / IBD, need for weight loss/gain, this can all be figured into a blenderized diet. Consult with a dietitian - they are quite helpful. Remember that white starchy things may clog up the tube and be a pain. These include wheat, rice, potatoes, pasta. Consider water intake with food and free water to prevent both dehydration and nocturia. I eat a lot of Real Food Blends. It's covered by my insurance because I cannot tolerate the formulas - they make me sicker. My caregiver makes veggie bottles for me in our instant pot. Celery, carrots, sweet potato, cucumber, kale, spinach, summer squash. Everything gets cooked (except the spinach which I ask her to add at the end just before blending) and sent through the Vitamix. Having a REAL blender is important. Also avoid seeds and things that may have pits and clog a tube! I have never had any significant clog since I started using a 22 Fr catheter end feeding tube (non-EnFit) and I have to eat very thick meals due to bladder and kidney problems. French size and INTERNAL diameter matter. I'm so grateful for my tube. Just got mine changed out last week too for a new one (that one lasted 11 months!).
I am one too because I never think of try doing that with my feeding tube until I run out of my formula and I don’t have any other choice but a friend of mine suggested that she will try blended her meals that she made for her self for me and I love having a variety of different meals that I don’t want to do formula anymore
Hi, thank you for sharing this nutrition dense recipe. I wanted to ask you a question. In hot and humid weather how long can almond milk be preserved? how do we know if we have to discard it? will it curdle like other milk?
Claire thank you for giving me idea fir a nutritious natural food for tube feeding. Can you also feature foods for diabetic tube feeding person. Thank you
Thank you so much for your comment! Most of my recipes are appropriate for diabetics and have significantly less sugar than diabetic tube feeding formula. I will emphasize that more in my upcoming videos. Also, check out my website for more recipes on my blog :)
Just a quick question. Do you take into account the acidic or alkaline values in the ingredients? I am currently using organic commercial formulas, certain medications. yet my doctor. who does the tube exchange by endoscopy discovered I have gastritis and wants to give me a medication to curb the inflammatory condition in my stomach. I want to find the root cause, make adjustments and heal naturally. After some research I found my water is on the acidic side, so I am making an adjustment there. I'm also reviewing the alkaline/acidic chart to compare my food ingredients. I am interested in personalized designed blended recipes like you do to have more control over the ingredients, and I'm hoping your recipes will help in my goals for healthy eating. Thank you for any help you can tell me about your recipes.
Will this work with pump feeding? Can I replace the milk with water since milk will spoil in continuous feeds. Or is this something I can push through a syringe slowly throughout the day. New to all this. Thanks!!
Hi! Yes, it should work just fine with a pump, especially if you're using the Infinity pump and know the little trick to improve the flow! If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out my blog- I have 2 posts all about using a pump for blenderized tube feeding. Also, there's no improvement in the risk of food spoilage by replacing the milk with water. No matter what's in the blend, it should only be at room temperature for 2 hours max. For this reason, blenderized tube feeding can be inconvenient for people on continuous feeds. Syringe push or a bolus infusion by pump is preferable.
Hi Ahmad. I think that it is too thick to flow via gravity feeding into a nasogastric tube. It would be better to administer by syringe push, with the blend thinned out a little and strained to minimize the risk of blockage.
Yes, should be fine but definitely strain it to make sure there are no significant particles. Get the ok from your healthcare team before introducing blends.
We had to switch from elecare jr to neocate jr for my son because of the recent recall. Is there anything I can add to his neocate jr and blend in with it to get him some more nutritional value?
Hey! Thanks so much for watching. I have ideas about this on my blog. Check out this post: www.naturaltubefeeding.com/post/looking-to-transition-from-formula-to-blenderized-tube-feeding
Thanks for watching! All my recipes can be used by jtube, but always get the ok from your healthcare team before starting a blended diet. Warm regards.
Hi Zee. It's designed for any tube that is at least 14 French or larger. Most PEG tubes are at least 14 French but you can always ask your Dad's healthcare team to confirm. Thanks for your question and all the best to you and your dad.
We usually would only suggest blended food for use through tubes that are at least 14 French in size. Blends can be relatively thick if fed by syringe but for pumps it does need to be somewhat thinner. Check out my online course as I explain in details how thick blends can be and why thinner blends aren't necessarily a good thing when it comes to getting adequate nutrition on a blended diet.

Is it suitable for NGT sized 16 ( bolus gravity feeding) is it risky for blockage?? Thanks so much

Is this suitable for patients under NGT feeds?
