- The People's Grocery Lynching's; A true story about a store owner Thomas Moss, his employee's Calvin McDowell, and Will Stewart. In search of the American dream and upset about the treatment of their people. A group of black men opened the first black owned grocery store in 1889 located in Memphis, Tennessee called "The Peoples Grocery". Unfortunately a white store owner William Barrett located across the street, did not like the new competition nor success of their business. After several attempts to close Thomas's store down, the disgruntled William Barrett was a main culprit in setting up the lynching's of Thomas Moss, Calvin McDowell, and Will Stewart.
