It's always interesting to see what you guys choose over there in the US. I'm in Australia and I personally prefer a clamp stinger but most guys here run a twist lock stinger, but there's a fair chance that's just because they're far more common here. Kind of like low hydrogen rods; you guys mostly use 7018 and we mostly use 7016. And TIG torches; most common over here are the euro style torches (moulded handles with integrated switch) but I prefer a US style torch. I do like the look of that V stinger though, I might have to find one for myself. *Did a quick bit of google and I'm only seeing them in the US and Canada, I think they might be a bit like hens teeth over here.
It’s always interesting to see the differences! Clamp stingers are great, but twist locks are everywhere here too. Same deal with rods-7018’s the favorite, but 7016 does the job. I hear you on the TIG torches; euro ones look slick. Good luck finding that V stinger-it’s a nice one if you can snag it!
We use Twecos on nearly every job, they have some Radnor knock offs sometimes that I hate because the jaws suck. I have big hands too, and generally dont use the actual handle to hold the stinger. I like holding it up closer to the insulators with my thumb over the spring handle, much more comfortable to me.
I prefer the twist lock stingers tough as hell. Welded with them till the plastic handle was nearly at melting point. We get a lot of rain stuff rusts out. Welding leads are left outside those stingers you guys shown do not do well in a West Coast environment. Salt air rusts out the spring, jaws get all corroded. What works on pipeline sure doesn't work in ship yard situations where we built barges.
No idea the tye of stinger that I learned with.. though it looked a lot like the first one. Far as the grip goes.. never once death-gripped it to worry about it coming free. Nor did I ever need to bend the rod. I'm no longer certified, but for me, it's like riding a bike.
Totally skipping over the lenco stingers i see. I use an af-3 and like it way better than the tweco stingers. Actually holds 7/32 jet rod and 1/4 7018 without slipping.
Tweco stinger used for 40+ years. Just replace insulators when wear out.
Nice choice!

I recommend specifically skateboard grip tape on the T300 if you don’t weld without gloves

Tweco for me
Alright!!
i saw that shirt on the BET Awards
Put the rod in the hole ,screw the body it tightens on the rod like a vice and you can bend the rod anyway .Fully insulated.
