  • In this video, we're going to use our scraps to make a delightfully cute bag that can be used in so many ways. These make great gifts and are fun to fill with items of your choice. Grab your scraps and let's get busy!
    Thanks to Kimberley over at MyFabricAddiction1 (Etsy) for the scraps used in this weeks tutorial. If you need scraps, precuts, fat quarters, or yardage, feel free to check out her shop!
    www.etsy.com/s...
    Supplies list:
    * 2 pieces of fabric (or scraps sewn together) measuring 8" x 10" for outer bag - to be cut down to 7' x 9" after quilting
    * 2 pieces of fabric (or scraps sewn together) measuring 7" x 9" for bag lining
    * One piece of coordinating fabric 2" x 3"
    * One nylon/polyester zipper, at least 3" longer than the width of the bag.
    I first saw this bag over at CharmedByAshley here on RUclips.

      These aren’t a difficult zipper to place, although if you’ve never done zippers, I do have a few zippered projects that are easier to start with. I only wish I had not been so afraid of zippers for so long because I could’ve made so many more projects. I always thought zippers were difficult to put in because when I was growing up, I would always see my mother putting them into dresses, shirts, pants, etc. I wouldn’t want to put them in those items, either!

      I’m so glad you liked it, Ada! You’re so sweet and seem to like scraps like me and so many others! As far as posting on the group, i would love to see the bag you made, but I try to keep links /names of other channels and Facebook groups to a bare minimum . I don’t mind if someone posts a picture of something they need and if someone asks where they got it, they just keep it simple with a name, without a link. The reason being is that a lot of times people post things that I haven’t yet made a tutorial for, but plan to in the future, so if a bunch of subscribers go grab that tutorial link, I don’t do the video because it’s not “new and fresh” to the group, or else it’s just the simple fact of me trying to build my RUclips channel across my Facebook group, if that makes sense. I don’t mind building up other RUclipsrs, in fact I expressly drop their links during videos and in my description box all the time, but on my Facebook group I try to keep it to a minimum because I’m working really hard towards that. I just read back over this and I hope you know that this isn’t in any way a reprimand lol, it’s just my thoughts on links. Anyway, I appreciate you, all your comments and enthusiasm 🥰. I’m working on housework and will check the picture out in a bit.

    Hi Marie…I love the bag! I’m wondering…how wide are your strips? I’m sure you make a lot of bags so that I wonder what you do with them all!?! Do you have a place to sell them? I’ve watched quite a few of you videos. The things you make are beautiful! All the bright colors! I’m seventy- five. While growing up, everything had to match… it was white shoes for Easter an on and then towards Fall shoes Had to be black or brown. Purses too. That’s so ingrained in me that the idea of carrying a bag that doesn’t match what I’m wearing is such a no-no. It’s almost repellent! But I so love the bags and realized yesterday how much I’m limiting myself. I’ll have to give that some more thought! Thank you for sharing your gift for sewing such lovely things. Louise

      Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I really enjoyed reading it and it brought back a lot of memories. I was born in 1964 and I can remember that my mom made most of the clothes for us for girls. Every Easter we would get brand new homemade dresses, and then she would buy us the hats, gloves, and purses (all matching, as I’m sure you know). I can also remember all those rules about the colors, and when you could use a brown purse or a blue purse, and when you should use most anything to accessorize.
      I am lucky enough to still have my mom, she turned 90 this past June, and I just made her a beautiful scrappy tote bag out of all brightly colored fabrics that she just adores. She actually mentioned after I gave it to her about how everything used to be as far as rules went, just like you and I are discussing. It’s very hard to make ourselves break our ingrained habits, isn’t it? Thank you so much for watching my videos and taking the time to comment. Have a great weekend!
      Oops, edited to add… I just used a variety of widths on the strips… whatever I had on hand to reach a width that looked “just right”. Sorry I’m not more help than that! Also, last year, I had a live sale where I sold all the stuff that I had made that I hadn’t given away. I might do something similar this year, although I don’t have very much made ahead. A lot of what I made this year was already gifted out. I do sometimes take custom orders for totes and other bags.

    • @MariesScrappyCreations
      @MariesScrappyCreations  5 месяцев назад

      Hello, and thank you for your question. I don't have a formula, although there may be one out there. I just adjust it depending on the size of my bag, to what I think I want it to be for width. I will say that i do any adjustments in 1/4" increments. You could try it on 2 pieces of scrap fabric sewn together, then cut out a square to see if it gives you the size of corner you want.
