Guitar Legend Heart's Nancy Wilson Releases Solo Album, Embarks on Tour, & Gives Back to New Talent

- She’s one of the greatest rock guitarists of our time, a four-time Grammy nominee, a Rock Hall of Fame legend, and one of this year’s Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award honorees.
Singer, songwriter Nancy Wilson shot to fame with her sister, Ann, and their Seattle band Heart in the early ‘70s. She recorded 16 albums, sold more than 35 million albums worldwide, and had countless chart-topping hits over the years.
Revered by many, including her peers, as one of the greatest guitar players of all time, she single, well double-handedly, gave birth to what later became known as grunge in the early ‘90s Seattle scene; that wildly dissonant (as she calls it) melody, filled with flat chords. Give the 1978 song “Mistral Wind” a listen and you’ll hear it immediately.
She recently released her first solo album, You and Me, with 12 tracks, including back-ups from Sammy Hagar, Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses, and the late, great Taylor Hawkins. It also includes a tribute to her friend, Eddie Van Halen, whose 2020 loss looms large still. She also released a tribute song to Hawkins entitled “Amigo Amiga" which she started writing a few days after his passing. All proceeds from the release of the single benefit MusiCares, an initiative that offers personal support to the music community.
We were fortunate to have her stop by the LifeMinute studios and hear all about it, get to celebrate her birthday, play us an acoustic set and tell us everything else she's been up to; including touring with her band, a brand new management company; called Roadcase, and hopes of a possible Heart reunion. At 69 years young, the soon to be grandmother, is absolutely stunning, and we cover that too.

Been listening to their music since I was in my early 20s. I'm just a year younger than Nancy. She is one of the greatest female rock guitarists around and she also has a great voice. I remember when they first started out. I knew they were going to make it big. They are so talented.
I hope Nancy and Ann realize just how many people love them. I'm generally the same age as them but I wasn't much into rock as a kid, more of a folkie type. but I loved them the first time I ever heard them sing and play. Super intelligent and super talented women and I'm so grateful that I have lived during their time.

If you're counting Baby Guitars among those, that was entirely original material.
@@Don-Jack You're right. I'm talking singing wise. All three albums are totally different from each other. One is a live acoustic, one is instrumental and "You And Me", =)
@@Heartboy1031 Gotcha 😉 Personally I also consider the Elizabethtown score to be one of her "solo albums" because it was officially released on its own (unlike the other scores) and it sounds like a complete album and not just a score.
Her first studio solo album though. I don't really count LIve at McCabes as a proper solo album, personally.
@@Heartboy1031 She's one of the few talented enough to do film scores as well as all the other stuff. It's hard to believe it took her so long to get into the studio and do a regular studio album. My favorite album out of all the "solo-era" stuff is the Roadcase Royale album -- it's a shame that didn't take off because it's a great album.
Just wish the generations off today, can write and play, sing this music. Instead of crap these days. I am 50 years old, grew up with 1970s and 1980s music. Until 1990-5, saw music destroyed by other types of crap.
It is wonderful to hear from you Nancy. I have performed with bands on stage. But I wanted to learn about music, whether I performed or not. I had to learn about music theory; I needed to understand the relationship between "melodic seconds" (heptatonic scale in one octave) and "harmonic thirds" (heptatonic scale in two octaves).
Also, I needed to know that:
a "Pentatonic F scale" (D-x-F-G-A-x-C) added to
a "Pentatonic G scale" (E-x-G- A-B-x-D) equals
a "Heptatonic C scale" (C-D-E-F-G-A-B)

Nan STILL is beautiful. The last time I saw Heart was in 1990 on a hot July 4th night I Moosic Pa. Nancy was pregnant with her twins during that tour.
