wanted to say the same thing, I thought it was on purpose at first when I saw it in the thumbnail. Looks reallly good!

    Love your work!
    Two things:
    1. You can also use for instance a dovetail cutter offset and angled to avoid breaking the 60deg engraving form tool.
    2. It seems as if the Willemin has a collet chuck mounted for the F34 collets you are using. Can't you just take that off and mount a center directly to the spindle nose? You'd gain like 100mm from the collets.

To avoid any issues with a rough pattern under the clip it, you could fade the pattern out as you get closer to the clip end.
I think making a pattern shallower as you move up the pen would look really good, it would make for an interesting design and ano would look cool af 😁

    John,
Maybe use a sturdy plastic for the reverse cone to hold the tip, if you're going to hold from the O.D. of the tip, as not to mar the finish on the tip? machine the plastic holder to fit into the bearing for the live center.

10:35 the focus speed is a combination of the camera. the lens and past focus point to new focus point (75% lens 10% distance to distance it have to focus and 15% the camera/ cameras focus system)

The first Saga with dimples needs to go to an auction. Just think how many collectors would love to have the first one!!!

Super stoked for some patterned Sagas in the future!
Have you ever considered keying the clip and slider assembly in some way to always have the clip clocked onto the tube in the same location?
And for machining the tip as well as the tube, you might need a pattern that won't look off if the tube and tip misalign slightly, because the patterns will only align if you tighten the tip the exact same location as when it was machined, which over time may wear in to shift that alignment spot.

If you rotate the ball endmill dimple pattern while moving in and out you get a cool pattern. Chuck in a spiral path as well
Like a wave version of the dimple

Great video 👍 Maybe make limited edition pattern Saga pen. When making the dimple pattern on the tip use a sarafical spacer to bridge the join😊

For the grip under the pocket clip on the helical line cuts. What about just lessening the cut depth in the area under the clip. Seeing if that lessens the grip satisfactorily but still maintaining most of the visual. In fact it might add a slight wave in that area visually. Since the cut depth is lower than the other areas. Adding too its unique look.

Question I have is there tube the same thread on both side? Does it matter what orientation you load it into the machine?

Very cool machining techniques. Have you ever thought about trying some forging? It seems you guys can machine the materials needed to make dies for forging. Maybe forging something simple like a socket set would be cool.

That dimple pattern looks really nice. It would be cool if you could ano the inside of the dimples and the Grimsmo logos ice blue and then ano the rest a dark purple color!

Why not use a collet in the main, with a stop, then you can do the tip too?

Just bought my second saga so I didn’t feel guilty about using my first one as an EDC. My first one was a purple with nickel aluminum bronze helix cut slider logo less tip and just picked up a gorgeous purple with gold Inlay with bronze cross hatch slider I’m so pumped to be able to have a display piece and one to show off with every day use. Being a machinist myself everyone gets a kick out of the engineering and thought that’s gone into something as simple as a pen!!! Thanks again!! #5582 #6655
