If you’re not a professional body man, you are pretty durn close !!! I absolutely love watching these bodywork videos. Sometimes I wish I would have learned that when I finished high school. But I got stuck behind the wheel of this darn 18 wheeler lol !!brother Slade this was an excellent video. You’re doing a great job.✌️
Nice work, Slade! Don't you just love bodywork. LOL. I learned to kind of like it but it's tedious. Rattle canning a whole car is REALLY tedious without a wide fan spray. But broken up into pieces, it's manageable. Just takes longer. And like you said, it'll look nice. Can't wait to see how yours turns out.
Thank you for taking the time to your comment! It does take longer, but I know a lot of folks don’t have compressors and guns and hoses, so I figured it might be easier to do it in sections in my small garage and show what it turns out like.
Nice work Slade that door had a lot of work to be done to it! I wouldn't worry about the bottom of the door too much a lot of the different coats of paint will fill in those areas and your right whos going to be looking under your door! Just out of curiosity i saw you have a compressor do you have a paint gun?
@@V8N8T thanks so much, brother. I truly appreciate the kind words. It did need a lot done, but I’m not going for show quality. I’m not a body man that’s for sure, I’m just doing the best that I can. I have a 21 gallon compressor, I could probably use an LVLP gun I think, but I’m not positive. My funds are low or I would go much bigger with a compressor. I do have an HVLP gun but I don’t know how it would hold up with my compressor. So I figured I would do the car in sections and show something a little bit different.
@SladesVWBeetle you'd be surprised what you can do with a small compressor and a cheap gravity feed gun from harbor freight can do. I like tackling and panel at a time seems like it's not as big a task when you can check one off the list one by one :) I think your compressor with that cheap gun would be perfect to do your bug panel by panel, it'll save you time and money
looking nice my friend. i see you start to enjoy body work 😂 And Heather has warned you multiple times stealing stuff. i wonder when we see you with a blue eye one a video🤣🤣 love you to guy's
Thanks, my friend, I really do not like bodywork. I’m trying my best. I could not find a container so I thought I would take Heathers lol much love, my brother.
If you have a compressor, and all the rest of the equipment. Then it would probably be much more efficient financially, I’m basically showing how to do it in sections if you don’t have most of those things.
Great vid Mr Slade ! It's pretty much how I did my old Comet. Except I did not clear coat, so it has dulled a bit. I think the 2k clear is the way to go. Look FWD to your paint job !
If you already have a large compressor, and all the rest of the equipment. Then it probably would be cheaper. But I’m showing how to do it in sections, if you don’t already have the equipment.
There’s a guy on my Facebook group named Garrison. I wished I could share photos here. I’m not sure if you’re on Slades VW community. He did his first car about two or three years ago. Of course, a beetle. And he did exactly what I’m doing and also use the 2K clear with Hardner in it and a can. The car looks absolutely amazing. He did a really fine job and it has held up perfectly well. Hope you stop in the live chat tonight at 9 PM Eastern on RUclips here.
Honestly, Mike I’m not sure, I did epoxy primer on my last beetle that was out of a gun. But I never did it before putting body filler down though. That’s a very good question. I’m just doing a rattle can on purpose with this car for people that like to do that and show them that using the 2K clear with catalyst works just as nice as a gun. And then on the next video restoration I’m going to be doing an LVLP gun on a small compressor.
@@SladesVWBeetle I did a test paint on the tail light extension with some automotive spray cans and the 2k can clear coat and it came out amazing. Just like a professional finish. I’m a believer.
@@MichaelValentine-iu2il oh absolutely. I think in a couple of weeks I’m going to go ahead and spray one of my fenders and of course, wet sand and polish. I’m curious about the spray max 2K with the catalyst. Although I’ve seen amazing results with it.
wirebrush - 3m pad on angle grinder- then scrub With phosphoric acid and if you arereally seriuos then use a dremmel with an engraving tool to remove the blaclk spots as they contain rust underneath and finish with phosphoric acid until no more black spots occure and you are 100 % RUSTFREE. i have used this method for many years, do not believe that the black ressidue mean that the rust is neutralized it is only paintable eventually the rust will break throug on one side or the other its just a matter of time - i speak from experience - ther is no shortcuts regarding rust, sadly ;-)

It kind of gives me the creeps when you 1 Use the door skin as a workbench. Sooner or later you will cause a dent 2 Touching the bare metal with your hands. I assume you use de-greaser off camera. That aside, your videos are joyful to watch :)
I see you took my new planter pot! 😮
😆
I seen this coming 😂
D'oh! busted!!! Slade was going to put it back right after the video, honest!
O Heather, he loves to play Russian roulette.
I didn’t think you would catch it that fast lol

The fan spray makes a big difference I agree. Keep up the great work
Thank you very much!
nice job.

I like the bodywork series
Thank you very much!
That came out nice
Thanks very much!
Great job! Thank you for always sharing your knowledge. …….. just love the Volkswagen community always seems to be positive vibes!

Looking good Slade can't wait to see the finished product!! And my wife to me that she thinks there doing away with it.
Thank you so much, my friend! Bodywork is not my favorite part lol
Coming along nice. I noticed during the video the cans were running out quick. It did come out nice though
I found it kind of strange. I never had them run out that fast!
Good job on the door, it looks great.
I don’t like bodywork either. I just don’t have the patience.
That’s the problem with me. I don’t have the patience with bodywork for some reason and I get bored with it lol
The rust oleum tall professional in the silver can seems like good stuff
I have not tried that yet, I can’t believe what is all available now in cans.
A lot cheaper. If you just got a cheap harbor freight spray gun. And buy a can of primer. It costs too much to buy those cans. of primer .

Thank you so so much, my friend!
Hello Tony, I was told it might be possible to put the fan spray nozzle from one can and put it on a can with different nozzle. Worth a try.
Hey my friend, oddly enough I did pull a couple off to try to switch them around and it looks like they changed the insert for some reason.
@@SladesVWBeetle bummer that would of been nice.
Great music!

I knew you were in trouble with using that pot!,,,,
I figured I would just use it quickly, since it was just sitting on her craft table lol
Would it be more budget friendly and better faster results buying paint by the gallon and spraying with a gun?

@@SladesVWBeetle I was thinking of doing the same. Painting by section. And yeah, buying the kit to spay would be expensive over rattle cans

I didn’t think she would get upset, she’s probably worried she won’t get it back lol
i paint over bugs (insects) it creates a dna time stamp of the paint job for historians.
I’ve seen a lot of videos talking about laying down an epoxy primer prior to body filler.
Is that for more of a high end restoration or preference?
