This is really encouraging for someone like me, I picked up the guitar without any training, just to cope with the pressure of medical school and now I can play full fledged covers thanks to your videos and many like them. Sending tons of love from India....❤️ Thank you so much .. Rashi
Great tutorial-I think I’m like you though in preferring to play the barre chord version, as it does sound more faithful to the original, that D#7 chord is a bugger for me to shape when up to tempo, but I persevered and got it eventually.
Outstanding! An old favorite of mine. Thanks for the chords. It would be great if you would take a minute or two to break down the strumming. I can back up and watch again, but I still struggle working it out.
Bradlee, thank you. If you watch the strumming video in the free series at www.yourguitarsage.com/30, all my strumming instructions will make WAY more sense. You will get it right away.
Totally incredible and the way explain different types cords and where to your fingers too..you sang that song was super too..I do appreciate your videos a lot thank you...
God Bless you brother all your guitar teaching will reward you one day I remember when I was younger I was struggling learning chords and came across your classic effing F chord first video of you ive seen still hilliarious you are Great singing to brother!
Hi Eric, thanks for this beautiful iconic piece of work, really very nice I'm trying it and not so hard with the chord progression but I don't fully understand the rhytm and strumming pattern you use. Can spend a few lines for this? I notice a lot of people are asking for this too.
Erich: Separate question. In some songs in the tab, a few notes have a small slash in front of them. What does this mean? Thanks. I can no find an answer in any published explanations of TAB. Tom
I'd say just play it in A minor so you can do the full descending progression down to the open e chord. If you care enough then tune the guitar half a step down and voila you're back in A flat minor.
been waiting for a tutorial on the song "start a fire" by passenger on the 2nd fret, the way he does it in the music video, since the song came out and have had 0 luck. could you possibly help me out with that?
I'm a beginner guitarist and am an Ed Sheeran fan, so naturally was looking up tutorials for his songs. And a video said a capo is required. As a beginner, is it really something that's required for me to continue practicing?
Father ßean if you don't use a capo you would have to learn a ton of bar chords which isn't at all a beginner option. . So yes. Defo get a capo, they're not expensive :)
I know this is 6 years old but would it kill youtubers to put some damn chord charts? This is like the 10000000th video I've watched and no chord charts😢
Original = Key of Ab. (Abm Gb E Eb). Try... Barre 4th ( only top 4 strings) + Ab note Barre 2nd (top 4 strings) + Gb Bb notes E major (emphasise E on the D string and the Ab notes i.e a demi-cowboy) Eb bass note (1st fret D string) + Gb note and db note. FP with strum, and remember chords are essentially triads give or take - there are always more interesting fingerings than standard cowboys ad barres; leave them behind and in time the fretboard is easier to interpret correctly. To be fair the piano piece is not so restrictive and the capo version is best lesson on yt. www.basicmusictheory.com/img/a-flat-minor-scale-descending-on-piano-keyboard.png
Hey Erich! Just a quick question-- I know you've been doing a lot of acoustic stuff but I've got an electric question. I'm looking into getting into pedals and would like to start with an overdrive. What do you think would be a solid pedal without breaking the bank?
Fred Jones - I started using pedals about a year or year and a half ago and I spend lots of money trying lots of different pedals, especially overdrive pedals. I finally found the Empress Effects Multidrive which is a fuzz, overdrive, and distortion in one unit that can all be used together or you can use just 1 or 2. It is a little expensive but far less than what I spent on all the other pedals that are no longer on my board. You may want to check out the Multidrive or something similar. In any case, have fun!
Folks, "this guy" is the only person in the history of the world to be able to play bar chords right out of the gate even before being able to fret 1 single note. Video tutorial please this guy.
"If you're too weak"? What's that about? Chill out bro. Why not emphasize the importance of practicing bar chords without acting all superior? No one wants to jam with a douche; keep it positive dude
Considering the comment, specifically the "weak" term, which also coincides with the term "lazy", perhaps implies it had a simple point. If one was not prone to being butt hurt, one could conclude that the comment had to do with something that should be common place, paying your dues. Any guitar player worth their salt knows the only way to improve is practice, practice, practice...then practice some more. I don't see the point of coddling new players, but unfortunately it seems to be the way of things these days. We certainly wouldn't want harsh realities interfering with the self-confidence of people, that would be tragic. It's interesting how in my comments I've simply been referring to a mental approach towards "if you want to be a competent at playing it will require time and effort", while the 2 of you that have chosen to reply to my comments have both taken the opportunity to slight me personally for my opinion. So really, in the end, who's being a douche?

So many requests my friend. I need to have clones made to get to them all.
i understand man, i honestly had no expectations of even a reply so no worries xD
Thanks friend!

its a great thing for all beginners should have, plus they make some songs easier to play
Father ßean if you don't use a capo you would have to learn a ton of bar chords which isn't at all a beginner option. . So yes. Defo get a capo, they're not expensive :)
Indeed! A capo will make everything so much easier.
Alright, thank you all for your replies :)

Sam, I would love to address this comment but don't understand it. Can you rephrase it please?
Grossish
If your too lazy/weak to do bar chords...give up guitar now.
Folks, "this guy" is the only person in the history of the world to be able to play bar chords right out of the gate even before being able to fret 1 single note. Video tutorial please this guy.
Haha! Funny. However, you know it's true. Come on, admit it. Barring is a must. Nothing to it but to do it.
"If you're too weak"? What's that about? Chill out bro. Why not emphasize the importance of practicing bar chords without acting all superior? No one wants to jam with a douche; keep it positive dude
