There’s a difference between judging and quoting what the Bible says. And yes sometimes ppl will even quote the Bible but in a not so loving way. You can usually tell when that is happening. God is the judge for sure. None of us can judge but we are called as Christians to share the gospel but to do it with the spirit of love. I had to examine myself many times to make sure I don’t sugar coat God’s word when witnessing but at the same time delivering God’s word with love, hoping it’ll be received. This Christian walk is a die daily to the flesh walk. Meaning die to our desires that doesn’t please God. We all have areas to work on that God sees. Even those who have titles in ministry. Continue to have a prayer life and a repenting heart. God does the changing. He works inside out not outside in.

People have taken bits and pieces of Christianity to fit their lifestyle. They want to believe in a higher power that looks out for them and guides them, but they still want to live their lives the way they want, based on their desires. I don't know anyone who follows the Bible to the T, but these same people will claim that they are Christians. It makes no sense.

I grew up in church a preschers kid and it was hard especially when I got to high school and didn't get to participate in lots of things but now as an adult I appreciate it. I strayed but returned to my faith because I realise that prayers and God has kept me and He is the answer. We are similar in a lot of respects.

I grew up in church and got saved a couple of years ago. The best decision ever. I know people say the church is judgmental but it’s not about judging, it’s a standard that we have. Everything people are saying is in the Bible. Part of being a Christian is dying to your flesh and here in lies the issue. Most people just want to have a piece of God and still serve their flesh. But thank God for his redeeming grace. None of us are perfect but there is a way to live when you become a Christian. We are called the salt and light of the world. We are in the world but not of it so our conduct should reflect that. I would never go back to the world. Saved forever until I meet my maker. Galatians 2:20.

Mental illness is what keeps me grounded. Knowing any toxic situations can be room for error in growing spiritually, personally, corporately, academically, & socially. It can also have an impact on self care & knowing everyone including me could easily be in a situation without owning your destiny with adequate support, love, & like-minded people. And people who live differently & not compromise respect & dignity.

I didn’t grow up in church but I accepted Christ when I was 17. I had a phone conversation with a friend and confessed to her that I thought I was bi. She simply invited me to church. I was excited to attend because I always felt I was close to God. I went there for 7 years even after she had gotten kicked out. I’ll never forget that invitation. I don’t consider myself a religious person. I don’t do stuff for the sake of doing them like going to church and so forth; I have to have a good reason. I believe God is real and he is perfect, just, and Holy. I seek to be more like him and I always ask myself what more I can do to be more like him while still keeping it real. I learned that it is better to be an authentic follower of Christ than just a believer or a religious person. As far as not judging, I think that we make judgments everyday and God has standards that we should adhere to. We should hold each other accountable to those standards; however, there’s a fine line. I think the Bible wants us to recognize we too are imperfect when we recognize another persons lack of adherence to what he feels is best for our lives. It says we’ll be judged by the same standards that we judge others. I am still not sure how to make judgments, adhere to the word of God and it’s standards, and still not judge others at the same time. There must be a different explanation or understanding of what the Bible means when it says not to judge since we make judgments everyday.

Alright, so I wasn’t raised in church but I attended church a few times in my younger days. I graduated high school in 2002 and I realized I didn’t know what LOVE was. I knew that what I was currently experiencing at that time (in a relationship and at home) was a form of LOVE but it wasn’t what I agreed with. So I thought to myself “What’s the definition of LOVE???” Now you have the worldly definition which involved purchasing gifts and physical acts of expressing LOVE, but I felt that wasn’t good enough. So a year later I opened up the Bible and read the biblical definition of LOVE in the Corinthians chapter of the Bible and that definition made sense to me. I’ve been applying this to life ever since and I have realize that the struggle is the patience part, but it’s cool to apply this discipline to life. I was directed to go to the Bible for this information, because I remembered my Big Mama telling me when I was younger that if you are ever lost in this world and need direction, you should call on Jesus, go to church, because your always welcomed there, or read the Bible and you’ll be ok. Simple story and I hope everyone enjoys their day!

Yes I remember that too!!! Born and raised COGIC (Church of God in Christ, Pastored by Late Bishop Ted Thomas). There was Sunday school before services, then long Sunday morning and night services. Especially when it got hot up in there (praising and shouting).
AND yes Summer Bible School..lol! I got in trouble lots of times from talking or laughing during the service. And sneaking candy..omg good memories..lol. But I'm so happy to have that strong foundation in my life. When times it get rough our faith keeps us strong and brings us through...regardless of the situation. Belief that God has a plan and has you. Would not want to trade it.

Thank you 🙏🏾 so much for giving so much of yourself. I appreciate it !!! PK kid ? Spending all day in Church ? I think it’s amazing that your Dad was able to remain sane and grounded in the entertainment industry... moreover as the legend Run of the legendary group RUN DMC and Jam Master Jay !!! I think it’s an honor that your Dad decided to bring his family up grounded and rooted in the Church and to become a Reverend . Salute to your Dad !!! Me ... I didn’t grow up in the Church per say ... but my Grandmother was an Eastern Star ... I remember as a kid being dragged in Church 3 times a week plus Sunday ! I mentioned in my new book that I fell out of love with Church when I got into a fight when a kid stole my nowandlaters 😇 . LOL ... that didn’t question my faith ! I guess that just gave me my excuse 🤷🏾‍♂️ Maybe that’s why I like Jolly Ranchers now ? LOL Nonetheless I still felt however that it was important to keep your faith and stay grounded and rooted in something bigger than you though !! That’s probably why I studied Islam and other faiths ? I just didn’t understand it like I do now !! But we are so quick to devalue the value in something we know little about ... right ? PK kids were teased , and weren’t considered cool in my era !! My era we wanted the fast life ... the right , right now !!! As a kid I had know idea on what my Grandmother was doing for us in keeping us grounded in the Church as I’m sure you guys didn’t either ... you never realize how those tools that you learn are forever apart of you !!! As an adult I think it’s essential though to be rooted in spirituality... spirituality helps you understand your connection , it helps you to identify that discernment.... Got to have a home rooted in the love of the Lord !!! Before the pandemic , before my divorce it was every Sunday and in football season !! It was Church grub and Football 🏈 😇. In my experiences I’ve been grateful for that connection though because with it , you know how to keep GOD on speed dial !! I do have to thank Pastor Jamal Bryant though for me ... this brother made Church interesting for me . I went to the Empowerment Temple for years in Baltimore we drove 40 miles err Sunday and Tuesday... and Church was everything that you talked about about ; The Empowerment Temple was non traditional, but all about empowering your spirituality, advocacy, being involved your community, expanding your financial perspective via all kinds of initiatives !!!
We all stray off but it’s imperative to reconnect and stay grounded .Reconnection to spirituality doesn’t mean being disconnected to being human , or being a person that’s going to experience the world , say some curse words , listen to hip hop music etc ... it just means that you Love God and you have integrity and try to be a good person & that’s what I teach my children !! Anyway... thank you 🙏🏾 and your family & Your Dad he makes it cool to be a Reverend. 💪🏽 Folks need that ... folks need to know that it’s ok to love God and be cool 😎 🙏🏾 !!

I knew he believed in Christ but I didn’t know he was really preaching and in church with his family 2-3 days a week. I would have never thought of his children as PK’s. My grandfather was a pastor of a Pentecostal church so I know the schedule of bible study, prayer service, and my church and morning service and evening service…and going to both! lol. I grew up in Church in South Africa 🇿🇦 when I was growing up in church was extremely serious and my father was extremely into it so on top of him being abusive it was even harder because it was one his way to control so I didn't like church as much because of my parents. We went to church everyday, wake early morning to pray and when we about to watch our favor he want to pray. We were forced to sing or else you in trouble. I hated that he was so nice and kind to church people and so evil at home. We we're not allowed to have friends. When I grow up meeting young people as me I didn't know how to relate as I never had friends except at school. Yes growing up it give a foundation for spiritual growth. I volunteer go to church now but I don't enjoy it as much as people are nasty in church, they jeleous, gossip, evil, nasty, and judgemental. I love God but I'm struggling to be active to church as it no longer fulfilling as it was in my youth being in College. I read the Bible and do prayers they more fulfilling to me. I have an amazing connection with God. It great foundation though but I don't think it okay to force kids to attend.

I would say I sort of grew up in church because my grandma and I would go ...she was the children’s choir director ...my mom and I went a few times but everyone who knows me or knew me through church is because of my grandma

☝👆☝👆 I grew up as a PK as well and it was SUPER SUPER F-U-N!!!!. It definitely helps to keep you grounded...believe it or not. I've learned a lot and seen lot as a PK....The expectations of you...the disappointments in.... but also my expectations of others and disappointments in others. PKs are usually and wrongfully held to a higher standardly others from the outside as if you are not allowed to make mistakes or you're not a allowed to have imperfections ...when we are just as human as anyone else. So Being a PK has it's ups and downs but I wouldn't want to change the journey I have gone through because it has shaped the person I am today.
