@@KaveManAquatics thank you for being so transparent and for trying different things with your tank. All my old cichlids that were around 5 years old have been dying off randomly over the past years. Seems to be age but the babies may be picking them off. Either way I understand the loss. I’ve lost my 4 largest fish in my 100 gallon this year. Sucks when it happens.

When I first got in the hobby, I ran into a few problems and kept losing fish, even though I thought I was doing everything right. In the process of losing fish I was doing research and stumbled upon your videos. I’ve learned so much about fish keeping from your videos and I gave it another go. I haven’t lost one fish since. I’m the proud owner of 14 African cichlids and they are not just living, but thriving. I’m sure that through your videos, you have saved more fish, than fish you’ve ever lost. I've worked in the fish hobby for over 20 years, I have actually started telling my clients this is one of the best guys to watch for information and its videos like this that prove your the right guy to go to. Transparency is the only way to learn with an educational channel like this one. Not all topics are glamorous but from one unfortunate incident we can all learn together and then the passing is not in vein it is actually a sacrifice for many more to survive. I love this channel and so does my daughter. We are new to this hobby and are using it as education just like many others and are using it as a bonding experience with each other. With both love this channel and are having so much doing it. Started off with a 1 gallon and a beta last Christmas, now we have a 30 gallon, 10 gallon, and you know that 1 gallon is still rock'n! Thank you for your transparency and education sir and sorry for your loss. RIP Scuba

I am a new fish keeper and have one Paradise fish in a 16g (w/ some snails and shrimp.) I test my water all the time and today the Nitrites were .25ppm. Because I use well water my water is very cold. I put some in a bucket w/ a heater and was planning on doing a water change tomorrow. Because you were brave enough to post this, I heated a little of my regular (softened) water to the well water to bring it up to temperature and did the water change tonight. Who knows what would have happened if I waited until tomorrow, but because of you, I wasn't complacent. You've taught all of us and I thank you for that.
Hey Kev. I feel your pain having lost more that a couple Discus over the past year. It's double painful when it's one of your favorite fish.
We all make mistakes no matter what our experience level. 45 years I've been keeping fish and I still make 'em.

I am grateful that you shared this experience with me. Im currently painting the back of my new 75. I already put everything in the stand and the stand has paper taped to it and my test kit is inside. I did my water change yesterday and I usually retest today. I was going to skip it because the test kit is barried in the cabinet. When I get home I'm going to get inside and test my water. Probably nothing wrong with it but you have taught me a lesson to never skip our routine because you never know. I know how hard it is to swallow your pride to help others. Hey Man, having multiple tanks both reef and freshwater/planted along with many inverts (122 tarantulas in my collection) it’s tough when you suffer losses. We ALL try to do what’s best for the animal. That’s why we do what we do. The key is we all learn, like you did, and we get better like you will. Keep your head up. It’s not for nothing.

I just found your channel and you brought me so much happiness showing me how to safely get my new tank up and running with Prime and Stability and I'm enjoying my tank so much. I'm so sorry for your loss but you bring a great deal of joy to new fish keepers and I hope that helps to know how much good you do.
Feel your pain. Been a fish keeper for the last 55yrs. I had a fish die on me yesterday, saw it but got distracted with family projects and when to bed. The next day I remembered but couldn't find him! I had to go to work. The same thing happen to me with a ammonia spike and stressed all the other fish in the tank., and I lost a another beautiful male mbuna that's been with me for 4years. As I write this I just finish a water change with a strong dosing of Prime, one of three my filters cleaned and pray I wake up with all stable and well. You are a great fishkeeper buddy and mistakes happen. You owe yourself another 210g to bless more fish with, including a Ray for you and your family. Thank you for your efforts and candor. I hope to bump into you one day, maybe at Fish Hut...lol.

I made a mistake as well by dosing vit c to my tank which was good for the goldfish but I ended up losing my 9yr old pleco in the process.
So don't be so hard on yourself.

Probably your most informative video for people advanced enough that roll eyes at nitrogen cycle and tank filter media because we have established tanks and know how to keep fish alive. I think most fish hobbiest would’ve done the exact same things you have done. This video definitely will make me cautious when feeding a new species
