Arthur Cayzer and Jamie Roberts' sets as Karenn ride the fine but thrilling line between success and failure. Since teaming up in 2011, they've embraced the risk-reward danger of improvised performance, trading the safety net of preparation for the high stakes of thinking on their feet.
Their RA Session sees Cayzer and Roberts working with a pared-back setup-at least by their usual standards. Across 20 minutes we see them using less sound sources and more effects, which Cayzer says has led to a "wider palette of sounds." It shows one of techno's best live acts at the height of their powers.

The finest and most unique duo in electronic scene. Their sense for music is out of this world.
i guess I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
Id argue tolkachev is by far the most unique, but these guys are up there aswell, they more Groovy non the less
@@Putrescence420 tolkachev is by far the most unique. Is he still 'underground' ? Havent listen to his stuff in some time.
I would put SHXCXCHCXSH up there with unique techno duos as well even though their live sets aren’t completely improvised.
This is the PRIME example of how far we as humans, have gone far with electronic live music. This is the gold standard.
also, Circle of Live
Let's be clear, it's YOUR gold standard. Art is subjective.
@@Wonks1000did that feel good?
I think I can speak for everyone when I say I wish this were longer!
Raw, Improvised, Alive Techno at its Best
thanks for the album that saved 2019.
kesinlikle!
Rrose released an album
I following up Jamie or Karenn's moniker since their start.
so much progress, also on personal levels. I'm happy for Jamie.
Much appreciated!! Thanks @Resident advisor
this was simultaneously energizing yet relaxing at the same time. cant wait to see more of this live one day and just get lost
it's hypnotic!
“When it works...”

Guy with glassed looks like surgeons son

@@koenblezer1357 Yeah not hating on the guy haha him and surgeon and both super talented
lovechild
These two together are just pure sound magic to me!
this is so sick, unbelievable
thanks for the amazing vid RA !!
Jamie is still Yorkshire!
This is unbelievably good
Karenn have their own signature Subbase I'd say.
Celebrating that sound like no other...always asking myself how can such auditive simplicity input cause so much spiritually, mentally and neurologicy complexity effects
RA sessions still offer us pure gold music masterpieces 🔊
🎶🎶
It's amazing to see how this went from unquantized turing machine chaos of candlelit boilerroom to this sonically pleasing & astonishing performance.
Saw them play at Berghain once, they were amazing!
this is magnificent
I could say a lot of appreciating things for this guys...but this session (like all the others) speaks for itself! THX Karenn **pulling the hat**
Karenn es magia pura , el mejor duo del Techno sin duda .
the chemistry is insane
So badass as usual!
This is so great🖤
9:35 Blawan has the "Are you sure this guitar sound is what we need right now?" look. LOL.
That bit of inspo started the best bit of the set imo, defo wasn't the loom you thought it was haja
@@owenedwards9807 agreed. I think it was Blawan who thought that, reading by his look lol. All worked out great in the end though!
Haha it get's really funny once you replay the bit a couple of times.
Simply the best. If anyone can do better than Karenn, that is Karenn from the future!
what an amazing set!
I have no idea how the fuck they're doing any of this and I like it.
Love these guys
Jamie: ''Arthur, what will you wear for the RA interview/live set?''
Arthur: ''My favorite white T-shirt.''
Christophe Leclerc lmao, I laughed on this comment more than I should’ve
@@zolllimtsenad thanks mate
17:26 my souls leaves my body everytime
Some great moments in this. Fair play if a lot of it's improvised. :)
Very nice warehouse techno! Love it.
Damn, this is some warehouse type techno here. Much
Proper, Indeed
i like these jam sessions. It reminds me on the jam session of Minilogue in there (in that time) new studio :)
we need more!!!!
brillant live set
Karren are just next level I've always felt it like that
Oooh boy they are so good
GREAT HOOO MAGNIFIC THANKS 👍👍👍🎹🎹🎹👍👍
Fuck this is an intelligent techno live set!
Real Artists!
usually i dont watch the videos when i'm listening to the sound, but when i do i watch this here.
Wow. Techno laid naked and on the fly. Respect for laying it out and pumping it out. Not many do
thanks for this! :))
I keep coming back for this. Something isn't quite right with the 41 people who gave it a dislike
Those are the ones who expected them to be Charlotte De Witte
Best techno album in 2019. Grapefruit Regret
this is a amazing !!! The Example of a Hardware Dj Set !!
it's not a DJ set, it's live PA
love to see a southerner and northern get along
rare sight isn't it
Unfavourably sadly
They do if they live abroad
Top performance!
Brilliant.
this performance sold me the elektron model:samples :P
Lovely stuff
Modular synth Love 🖤
Next Level. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
These guys are great spaced toghether
In my opinion, this way of delivering electronic music is the most correct, since it is live, by this, these guys explain to the public how electronic music is written and there are not many such bands ... I think that the older generation, which in its “time” is not had an idea of such a sound due to the lack of appropriate "instruments", if you show this record or any other from the live of this duet, there will be many people who say: "it is not as simple as it seems."
jeff mills has a video making pure techno on just a 909 so the oldheads could do it too but they just didn't embrace it like these newer guys are (AFAIK i could be wrong.) DJing, decks have their place but this is great esp for people who go clubbing solely to see the artist! it's much more of a connection, like seeing a live rock band jamming. There's also guys like Fjaak who don't improvise from scratch live but play their tracks on their actual gear.
Peel me easy gets me every time
High class techno! First duo i hear playing like the king Ben Klock!!
Enooorme !!!! Grcias!!!
This set reminds me a lot of Worms Armageddon
Tyler Neely the game yes
@@DanSmithOfficial No the impending apocalypse scenario
haha man thats so specific but true
МОЩЬ!!!СИЛА!!!))))
how yes so good
very impressive.
Buenísimo !!!!!!!!!
This start
insane
Pariah looks more like Surgeon than Surgeon.
less machinery was used during the WW2. great set.
guy with sweater looks like hes running a vegan coffe shop in berlin
Actually he does !
Loves a macha latte.
guy with sweater is Blawan lol
He is called Blawan, as when he makes a coffee too hot he blows in it to cool it down.
Just an accent thing
Check out his music maybe, just maybe, you'll think of him in a slightly different way..
@@dopesensi :))))))))
Great!
Better RA than Boiler Room!!!
legendary
why only 20 minutes? Give us 2 hours!
They couldn't afford it lol
Looking forward to the gear list....nice set guys.
Hidden Techno yes please
I mean.. it's all there and pretty obvious. That is, unless you're talking about the modular, in which case I only see an Intellijel sequencer under the spaghetti of patch cables.
@@tcnotrvlr its pretty obvious if you know what it is lol
@@hiddentechno8266 elektron digitone, elektron model:sample, big ol' modular rig, arturia microfreak, 2x boss rc-505 loopers. Some other things but I cant name those
That being a big mixer and loads of effects, and the grey sequencer? In front of the Modular

This should of been 1 hour long at least
next level techno

Best set behind Bjarki at Reaktor, never heard sounds like it in my life
bjarki was insane haha I hope his set wil be online someday
BOSS!!!!!!!!!
Fucking nice, no frills just thrills, dancin muzik
Karenn fans seem to be 90% gearheads according to the comments here.
... and that, kids, is what we call "sampling bias"
Blawan i have seen u in köln. That was nice but pariah- u'we been in 2017 in Szczecin and i Loveed youre übergang and Power. I Love you both anyway 😁
Stunning music! Is there a place to find a list of all the gear used for this performance? Thanks!
I can tell you most of them, besides the eurorack stuff which I'm not clued up on (there's another comment in here somewhere that mentions them though)
On Arthur's side:
Elektron Digitone
Arturia Microfreak
Eventide H9 Harmonizer
Eventide Time Factor
Strymon Big Sky
Boss RC-505
Don't know what the mixing desk is
On Jamie's side:
Eurorack stuff
Analogue Solutions Europa
Elektron Model:Samples
Eventide H9 Harmonizer
Strymon Big Sky
Electro Harmonix Bad Stone
Bugbrand PT Delay
@@urmumsbaps Mixing desk is a Midas Venice 160 I believe
Would love to see a closeup of Jamie's... modular
From what I can see, it seems like quite a drum oriented setup with the jomox modbase 09, intellijel metropolis and cwejman qmmf-4 in there.
@@SebaKerckhof Makes a lot of sense since Blawan's work is so focused on percussions
