There are many nuances and complexities to nonprofit grant writing, and it can feel like the world of grant foundations is a world unto itself.
    In this video I share my own observations as to how grant writing has evolved over the past year and what you can expect as you do some grantwriting of your own.
    I hope this helps as you undertake nonprofit fundraising!

    Absolutely love this! I definitely echo everything you said. Grant writing and funding is really crucial to my organization to build a stronger infrastructure so we can act on the vision we sit out for.

    The “who you know” barrier is huge and has always been a problem for the neediest, smallest and less well connected organizations.

      I agree! It's hard. I think it's about human nature though; you're more likely to support someone you know and trust. So we have to figure out how to build trust with people. Think about it from your own perspective - are you more likely to give to a stranger or a friend?

    Thanks would it be advisable to hire a Grant Writer to get started?

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  2 года назад

      Hey Robert, that's totally up to you! I am of the mindset that anyone can teach themselves grantwriting if they are so inclined, but doing it well does indeed take some time and practice.

      Hey there! I'm afraid I don't know of groups like that, but there are so many great resources online! Start by thinking specifically about the questions and challenges you have, that will help narrow it down.

    Can you ask for donations for your company's reserves, instead of for the cause?

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  3 года назад +2

      Supporting your nonprofit's operating costs is still supporting the cause! If your organization goes under in a disaster because it didn't have any operating reserves, then you can't help the community. So, having some savings is smart AND helps you stay afloat if there is a community crisis (like COVID, which wiped out a lot of nonprofit's funds...)..

    In your experience, which type of grantmaker has the lowest paperwork burden?

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  3 года назад +1

      Just a guess / observation, but probably smaller private foundations.

  • @damianpenston6588

    I once interviewed someone who was a grant manager at a foundation and she told me that one of their policies was to reject any applicant who didn't respond to an e-mail within 24 hours at any stage of the process. This wasn't made transparent to applicants.

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  3 года назад +1

      Yikes... that seems kinda problematic... what if the org is dealing with an emergency or out serving clients? Hopefully that foundation has adjusted their policies!

    • @damianpenston6588
      @damianpenston6588 3 года назад

      I imagine that they'd show understanding if there's an emergency. I don't know if any other foundation would be so strict, but the person who told me said that it changed the way she responds to grant managers.

    1 Can I non profit file a clam on BLM land for mining 2 does the work that a 501c3 do require a paten or trademark like on the ground braking ideas 3 is their 501c3's that can do the trade mark for free or reduced cost 4 can i spend money for my corp to build it or am i to give money to it and what wood that be called 5 how can i find a Lawyer for both nonprofit board construction and Paton trade mark law and is their nonprofits that do this for free.

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  3 года назад +1

      I am not familiar with land use / laws around that. A 501c3 is not the same as a trademark though, so you'd need to approach that separately.
