Pete, you certainly have the correct mindset for painting and the preparations before. Your experience really comes through before you start painting, you know how and where the paint will go before it leaves the gun. I haven't started to paint with my new sprayer ( very lightly used Graco 390) but I would have never thought to tape a door the way you did. It's so important to see a professional prepare for and then watch your spraying motions. Looking over your shoulder is invaluable. Thanks again.
You’re so kind, thanks for your feedback 💙💯 I’m aware I have an analytical mind 😄 always feel free to reach out, I’m happy to help my friend 🙏 regards Pete
This is a great video Pete, I only learned to mask doors and frames opening into rooms by trial and error and trust me, there was plenty of error. The only thing I really do differently to yourself is that I spray the spine of the door as if you didn't, when the door is open you'd see the old paintwork. I literally do the same as you but just mask hinges first, then inside of doorstop and then behind the door leaving the spine exposed. Hope that's not clear as mud!! 😂 great tutorial though mate. Keep up the good work 👏
Thank you my friend, appreciate you watching, your kind feedback and sharing your experience.. you’re right about the spine of the door, great tip 👏👏👏 Keep in touch, would love to hear your views in future 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Pete, hope your well. Your 💯 right about not going back to a paint brush, I get loads of comments on the finish of my frames, thanks once again for all you help and advice in the past, top man 👍
Ah that’s great to hear you’ve embraced spraying and reaping the rewards.. the sprayed finish on woodwork is one of the most rewarding to showcase as a P&D 👌🙏 ..Thanks for your continued support, regards Pete
Another great video for someone new to spraying like me. Thanks for the time taken to provide the excellent content plus the helpful links. I’m inspired to crack on this week with my new Quickshot on 4 doors, architraves & skirting. I will be replaying this video no doubt as my guide ! 😂
Hi Jonathon, you’re very welcome, I’m glad it’s a useful guide my friend.. I look forward to hearing about your experience using the Ultra QuickShot 💙💯 ..Happy to help and guide you any way I can.. regards Pete
Thanks again Pete. Metry Christmas andni xant tell you juat how much youve helped me with my own business. Great video here Pete. Thanks again very much.

As a cameraman and editor in a previous vocational incarnation, I appreciate how much time goes into your videos. Love your low-key, succinct presentation style, brother! Many thanks. :)
Thanks Pete another amazing video…. As a decorator/ sprayer ever day like the little tips you give I done bathroom ceiling today with my Graco ultra max and use your tip you give in your other video where tak down masking film in different areas with tape behind the the film
Ah thank you brother 🙏 Thanks for sharing - yeah tacking down the film in tight spots certainly stops any frustration with the plastic film lifting 👍 Always a pleasure to hear from you my friend 💙💯
Great job pete, what a flawless finish on the door,it beats brush and roller all day long,it might be quicker on one door just to brush and roll it but nothing beats a spray finish for a high quality job
Thank you my friend.. you certainly get quicker at masking with practice - I often use this method when completing a HSL and I have 6 doors upstairs and 4 doors downstairs - removing doors, storing and putting back on can be a pain, especially with problematic hinges 😬 good luck, regards Pete 🙏
@PaintHQ This is the reason why I'm re-watching the video. I did a HSL a few weeks ago but we were a 2 man team and had plenty of space to remove the doors. In a months time I'm doing a 3 storey HSL with 10 doors on my own, which will be hard work to remove all the doors. Keep up with the great content 👍👍🔫
Great video and thanks for your time in producing it. I called Sprayman, Burntwood earlier today as they came up as my local Graco stockist and they mentioned your YT Channel. I'm left pondering whether to go for the Ultra or the Quickshot. For me they both have advantages and disadvantages in comparison. Decisions, decisions. Happy Christmas. Roll on 2024! 👍
Hey Paul, thank you so much.. I appreciate you watching - yeah the team at SpraymanUK is awesome and super knowledgeable 🙏 I get your dilemma, both will serve you well.. I can easily say “go for the Ultra QuickShot”, but I can appreciate the extra financial investment.. Thank you my friend, appreciate the support 🙏 I find using plastic film in these masking scenarios Vs paper - the plastic can flap about as the airless paint under pressure hits.. Unless you can keep the plastic taught, it may snag your work ☹️ Regards Pete 💙💯
Hey David, merry Christmas my friend - Haha you’re right, the door would have to come off to spray that 😄 ..Great to hear from you, appreciate your input 🙏 regards Pete
Hey my friend, thanks for watching 🙏 Good question, I typically spray 2 coats of primer and 2 topcoats 👍 The waterborne material I spray dries very quick, especially if I use a fan and circulate air (like in the video) 👍 ..all the best, keep in touch.. I’m happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete
This was an excellent video thank you I was wondering about to the right side of door handle but see at end a lot of covering with final handle. Also folding paper on top of door is that hard? Thanks so much! Beautiful work!
Thank you Steve for your kind words.. in a video step by step guide, it can seem like a lot of work - and to be honest first time trying to mask up to spray, it can feel hard work.. but with practice it becomes quicker and second nature.. then when you feel the sprayed finish (which is quick).. it all feels very rewarding 👍 One tip when mask the top of the door - wipe the dust off first 😄 and try to relax.. if you fight with the tapes and paper it’s harder.. trust me though, none of it including the top of the door is hard to do.. it folds into place, ready for a run if tape 👍 Keep in touch my friend, happy to help if I can.. regards Pete 💙💯
Thank you my friend 🙏 On the whole I’d say it’s faster - once you master the preparation and masking 👍 Spray application is super quick, and once you learn the product, you learn if you can speed up drying a recoat.. whereas a brush / roller, product has to be 100 percent dry, otherwise you risk paint dragging.. so yeah, it’s quicker, less laborious and the finish is mind blowing 👌 regards Pete 💙💯
Hey. Can I convert to AAA with just a small 2hp compressor? If so what Graco airless pump would be a good investment in a 1 man shop to covert to AAA? What’s your favorite AAA gun? Thank you. Great videos.
That’s a good question, in short it’s not as simple as matching a compressor in terms of size (litres) and power (hp).. whilst size will give an indication of the volume of air available in reserve.. it’s the delivery of air in CFM needed to ‘drive’ the air cap.. if I recall my 3hp / 24 litre Gentilin compressor can deliver 7 CFM - which is not a particularly high CFM, but enough to drive my Durr AAA gun.. I’d recommend seeking the expertise of the sales distributor in terms of matching the CFM to the AAA gun ..I myself speak to Mike at SpraymanUK 😄 I’m using the highly acclaimed Durr EcoGun 2100.. regarding pumps, if you’re looking to use purely in a small workshop environment, the Graco Mini Merkur could be worth a look.. it’s an air powered AAA unit, that comes with a Graco G40 gun 👍 Hope this helps a little my friend.. AAA is a bit of a minefield but it’s an exciting, very rewarding and even fun journey 💙💯 regards Pete
Hey buddy.. I don’t dilute trim / woodwork paints.. I’m spraying a low viscosity WB enamel top coat by AkzoNobel - sprays / atomises very easily at low pressure .. if I recall I link to the product in the video description 👍 regards Pete
Do u tape just one time? Question is, if u paint the second layer or some times the thirdy layer. Does it not stick with the dryed layer to oull of the taoe?
Good question my friend .. I only tape up once, and this will be fine for priming and spraying two top coats 👍 There is no risk of bridging, but as always peel back the the tape with care, at a 45 degree angle.. I also use a quality washi tape (I demonstrate in this video, I use Kip, it’s the same company behind FrogTape, parent company is Shurtape).. a washi tape is thin, smooth and strong 👍 This video on the PaintHQ channel, about spraying a room, will clarify and guide you through each masking / spraying stage.. Yes my friend 👍 ..If you mask the opening wider, say 24” the door will open wide enough to expose the hinge side - you just need to put a run of purple sensitive tape down the hinged opening (to stop spray going through into the adjoining room).. just weigh up if it’s feasible or not.. I’m prepping one today, and at the moment my thought is to manually paint in the hinged side 🤔 ..Regards Pete 💙💯

Thank you Wahid, really appreciate you watching the videos and your very kind support.. With any airless gun, it’s worth checking and swapping out the tip guard seat / seal. Then specific to the Ultra and UltraMax Handhelds, the outlet valve (the threaded part where the tip guard attaches) - is essentially a CleanShot, and can need adjusting. It can be seen when looking at the outlet valve straight on.. my recommendation is try a new tip guard seat / seal and then maybe contact a service centre to investigate the outlet valve.. all the best my friend.. regards Pete 💙
You’re so kind my friend, thank you 🙏 Very good question - Graco say the Triax II pump improvement, extends the lifecycle by ‘up to 3 times’.. I can confirm I’ve been testing one for a while now without issues. It’s positive to say I notice a bit more ‘power’ when circulating / priming water during cleaning Vs the original pump 👍 definitely an improvement to the 3 pistons and packings 👍 ..Always great to hear from you buddy 💙💯
Cheers Pete I'll pick up a replacement as it's so handy sometimes for small stuff even though I've got Quickshot always looking for excuse to buy something spray related 😂

Hi Nic, great questions, thank you .. I personally feel I can mask and spray a door faster, but it’s the cabinet like finish you get from spraying that’s a win for me (and my customer) 👌 First time trying, you think it’s a long process, but like anything you get quicker.. so yeah in terms of profitability, I win more work from the finish achieved spraying doors / woodwork, it’s that good The products I spray are industrial waterborne 1K products by AkzoNobel - a WP136 primer and then an enamel topcoat.. all from Holman Paints.. if you check out this video, you’ll see them in action spraying a staircase and I link the products in the description 👍 ruclips.net/video/q54gOAGuOcY/видео.html Thank you for your support 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯

Fantastic production, sure to help me out about to undertake 7 doors and a 3x4 bedroom at home. Can I ask your supplier and product please? I am UK based. What sort of coverage per L do you get in real numbers?
You’re so kind, thank you my friend 🙏 if you check out this video, in the video description, there are links to the low viscosity spray only primer and topcoat.. it’s very cost effective in 5 litre cans.. plus there’s a PaintHQ discount code 👍
Regarding the Kip masking products, there listed in the video description too 👏👏👏

Happy to help and advise any way I can.. keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙🙏
Hi Pete, why do u spray the ceiling last then? Is it because it’s easier to mask and protect walls after painting them?
Hey buddy.. yeah you’re spot on, it’s much easier to mask a ceiling cut line and protect everything.. the Kip 2.6m drop plastic film is the perfect length 👍 Regards Pete
2 quick questions, what are the exact paints, how much quicker is this process than brush / mini roller ? as increased productivity / profitability
Let’s just say my friend if we had one door each you would finish before me but I would have the better finish if we had 14 doors each I would be done in three hours you would be there maybe all day
Hi Nic, great questions, thank you .. I personally feel I can mask and spray a door faster, but it’s the cabinet like finish you get from spraying that’s a win for me (and my customer) 👌 First time trying, you think it’s a long process, but like anything you get quicker.. so yeah in terms of profitability, I win more work from the finish achieved spraying doors / woodwork, it’s that good
The products I spray are industrial waterborne 1K products by AkzoNobel - a WP136 primer and then an enamel topcoat.. all from Holman Paints.. if you check out this video, you’ll see them in action spraying a staircase and I link the products in the description 👍

Thank you for your support 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
Great to know, I was surprised you didn't use the Graco ultra quickshot cordless. You're right, when it's the right job for it break out the sprayer. Does anybody use air scrubbers / extraction ducting with the sprayer ??

@nicw2545 Good question - The Graco Ultra QuickShot is awesome, I purely just wanted to showcase the HH for a change 😄 ..This is what I’m using to vent outside - more so when I’m spraying more than just the one door 👍

you should use liquid masking on the windows imo
Thanks for the tip, that’s very interesting my friend 👍🙏🤔
Hi Pete. Where is the cheapest place to buy all the Kip tapes please? 👍🏻
Hey Andrew, hope you’re keeping well.. Next Day Paint 👍 ..I put a link to the Kip tapes / products in the video description, and if I recall a discount code (I don’t get any commission).. code should still be active - it was site wide, but I believe it’s just Kip / FrogTape now because the code ended up being abused on voucher sites.. any problems, let me know 🙏 regards Pete
@@PaintHQ thanks Pete I really appreciate it. Hope to see you again at the trade show if your there👍🏻
@andrewdavies1813 Sure my friend, be great to catch up - I’m at Trade Decorator Live (Bolton) in a couple of weeks.. then P&D Show (Coventry) in November 💙💯
@@PaintHQ ok great. I shall look out for you 👍🏻
Feel like the prep time + cost for materials is 10x more than the painting cost/time. All that tape for one short paint job must be expensive.
so meticulous and rigorous 👍
🙏💙💯
Sorry mate, but you should’ve opened that door right up, then masked up, this is not a thorough way to spray a door
Thanks for your feedback my friend.. if anything, space permitting and other factors, I’d actually look to remove the door.. I feel just opening the door wide open, brings other challenges.. masking hinges, over spray to the other side of the door (not being painted) and overspray to the other room (also not being painted), even dust travelling throughout a furnished / occupied property.. appreciate your input though 👍🙏 Regards Pete 💙💯
Best way to do doors 👌
@J-PoN 👏👏👏💙💯
