- Marcus (Nicholas Hoult) clashes with the son of Will's (Hugh Grant) new potential girlfriend, Rachel (Rachel Weisz).
What is About a Boy (2002) about?
Hugh Grant (Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary) is simply brilliant in this comedy hit the critics are hailing as "Hilarious!" (Premiere). Will Lightman (Hugh Grant) is a good-looking, smooth-talking bachelor whose primary goal in life is avoiding any kind of responsibility. But when he invents an imaginary son in order to meet attractive single moms, Will gets a hilarious lesson about life from a bright, but hopelessly geeky 12-year-old named Marcus. Now, as Will struggles to teach Marcus the art of being cool, Marcus teaches Will that you're never too old to grow up.

The boy who plays Ali is hilarious!
That was my "take away" as well...... you forget that he's "acting"
Ally
Augustus Prew
He’s great - such a wonderful film
He's so funny. ' She's not keen on HIM. She's only keen on ME!'😂
Hugh Grant and Nicholas Hoult really shine in this movie.
Thought the little kid looks familiar, grown up, Hoult!
@@williamlouie569 they're all grown up now.
Hugh Grant is absolute class in this this.
My mom's only keen on me!
Rachel weisz is so lovely ❤❤
this scene is classic 😂😂😂😂
Ali looked scary enough - but when he opened his mouth - had the least scary voice since Mike Tython!
Hearing Mike Tython! 😂 talk, I understood exactly why he needed to bulk up and become a world champion boxer.
Ali didn't want to loose his Mother. Parents dating bothers children more than people think.
Cats in the neighborhood are definitely gonna be disappearing with that Ali kid around!
😈🔪🙀💀
"New people"
Did Ali just threaten to kill Lex Luthor?
Reminds me of the time my parents planned to adopt a brother. I was best friends with the kid, until I was told he was going to be my brother. Then I hated him. Turns out that the catholic church would not let my family adopt him. I was young. And considering my father was a violent, jealous man, it was best that the kid never joined my family.
Why did you hate him when you found out he was going to be your brother?
@@TheCaptinAwesomo I was young and jealous. Just a kid thing. I was already the youngest in a family of 6 kids. I got left out of everything. They were closer in age than me so I had to fight for my parents attention. As it turns out, he dodged a bullet. My father was very abusive.
To be in a movie with that god awful haircut. The barber must’ve hated Hoult. 😆
Apparently, he was given that haircut because they thought Hoult was too good looking to be believable as a social outcast.
Ok. I definitely makes sense.
The producers tried to ugly up Hoult by giving him the weird haircut and lumpy, unflattering clothing.
He's still very obviously cute though. And really fantastic in the role - the producers/directors made the right choice.
Ali is one of the normal and cool kids
Typical Arsenal fan
❤❤
What's the background song? Sounds familiar.
I think the sound track is predominantly Badly Drawn Boy.
Not sure if they wanted Ali to sound threatening but if they did probably shouldn't have pick someone with a voice like a lesbian
His name is Ally
That is how voice works before puberty
He's meant to represent people like you
You came out the womb sounding like a Mitchel brother I imagine.
What a ridiculous take. He's not meant to be threatetning to you, someone I assume is an adult. He's a kid, bullying another kid...
❤
Girl or boy?
Yeah Ive always been unsure at this too
According to the description it’s a boy
OMG! Who are you referring to? you mean Marcus? I don't understand why the confusion, he is clearly a boy, the actor's name is Nicholas Hoult. He doesn't look like a girl at all.
The one called Allie is short for Alastair/Alistair which is definitely a male name and they say this later in the film during the school performance scene
I think his voice isn’t deep just cos he’s not gone through puberty yet their characters are 12 years old
All 4 of them are very possibly, probably human.
