It may seem like it, but Negan changed very quickly in the prison (he got his humanity back). If he would've truly loved killing, he would've done that when he got out of the prison (and I ain't including those kills that he had to do or he had some kind of reason to do it). I think Negan wanted to show that he loves killing or something like that, because he had to look like very strong and dangerous leader for his people. And especially to scare the shit out of people. But remember, when one of the Saviours raped Sasha? Me neither, since Negan stopped him. Negan killed one of his own people, because he almost raped a woman from another group. Negan clearly respects women (although he has those...wifes), and has morals. He doesn't allow raping, which tells us so much.

Neagan isn’t a villain, he’s more of a anti hero. He’s not completely good, but he’s not bad either. In his mind he thought he was saving people, but now he knows what he did wrong and he’s trying to change... and be accepted.
