    as a roller main, there are a few situations where you can roll over someone intentionally. if you've already started a swing and someone slips behind you, you can rotate around pretty fast to catch them with the roller without having to wind up another swing. the carbon roller can also rarely be used to roll someone over if you end up in a situation where they've already taken some damage and it would be faster to roll into them than it would be to wind up another swing

      One situation I've seen where rolling can be good is whenever someone is using ink-vac. Rolling can still deal damage while they're trying to suck up ink, so if you're close enough to them, you can completely shut them down if they panic ult'd near you.

    I play rollers because they impressed me the most when I met them during my first matches in Splatoon + I usually play handheld lying in bed which makes using motion controls for good aiming impossible. I love my Flingza for its amount of ink, mobility, strength and missiles. I do win 1v1's in many cases. I also sit in ambush and crush from behind a lot. I see other Flingza's forget about their ink mines, which is a shame. These make a good alarm, serve well in TC and can even kill an already damaged opponent.

    • @Phonochirp
      @Phonochirp  2 года назад +2

      I really like ink mines on basically any weapon for that reason, I know other subs are better, but so much fun hunting someone down that hit it!

    as someone who uses the dynamo roller, i actually play more aggressive/backline than as an anchor with a single position, so basically i move around a lot rather than stay in one position

    7:15 this is true in all game modes except salmon run. It ONE SHOTS COHOCKS. it's the best thing for lesser crowd control, and I keep watching my teammates try to use it the normal way and dying because the flick is outpaced by the giant crowd.

      @Phonochirp  2 года назад +4

      Yeah 1 resist up sub is something I see and use a lot. For rollers and brushes I usually don't just because if you don't splat someone in the first swing AND end up in their ink you're probably getting splatted with or without resist. You could definitely swap out one of the swim speeds for it though!

    A short run down of what to use each roller for:
    -Splat Roller: Excellent slayer weapon. Curling bombs can help you move quickly and splat foes fast.
    -Carbon Roller: Splat Roller but worse. An argument can be made that it's less slayer and more skirmisher, because it doesn't have as easy approach options as the splat roller, but it's kit is holding it back from greatness
    -Dynamo: You aren't a frontliner anymore, you're playing support. Your job is less to kill the enemies, because your attacks are so slow you're probably not gonna be able to do that. Instead, you're trying to limit the opponent's movement with your super powerful attacks. Sure, your opponent might be able to dodge your attacks, but they cover such a wide area that they have to back off. Plus you brought the refreshments
    -Flingza: You're here because you wanted to spam missiles. You're not as fast at it as the Reeflux but your weapon is more reliable as an actual weapon. And the less said about Goo Tuber the better, so Flingza is a good middle ground. Just try not to accidentally do the vertical flick when in combat. It's good for getting a line to swim through quickly but having a massive wind-up and a pathetic 1-shot hitbox makes it useless for actual fighting.

    • @Phonochirp
      @Phonochirp  2 года назад

      I always prefer the carbon, just because of the speed. I'm really surprised by the kit they gave it... usually weaker weapons have better subs and specials to make up for it, and the carbon did in the past.

    • @UniGya
      @UniGya 2 года назад +1

      @@Phonochirp I totally agree, I think looking just at the weapon itself carbon is a more fun weapon. I hope it's one of the first few weapons that get a second kit, because right now it feels so bad to not have a good kit

    this guide spreads a lot of misinformation honestly. as a roller, you are not supposed to flank. yes, you can flank, but ideally your job is to punish overextension using ninja squid. you don't take people by surprise in higher levels by going behind them, you take people by surprise by popping out of the ink and capitalizing on tiny mistakes in positioning. with other weapons, your job when you go on the flank is normally to take space and paint ground with other weapons such as tetras, wiper, etc. and roller can't paint the ground/ignore enemy ink well enough to do this.
    using your long-range flick to do poke damage is very situational, especially because you aren't really applying much damage and the time to kill is very slow. ideally you'll be spamming curlings, sometimes following them but not always, as they are very predictable. being under ledges is your friend.
    one thing that isn't mentioned is that aiming lower will increase your one shot kill distance with vertical flick.
    dynamo is not an anchor. it cannot paint well either with vertical flicks compared to other weapons, the ink droplets are very mediocre especially when compared to its ink in Splatoon 1
    flingza's job is to paint a lot with vertical flicks, while using horizontal flicks similarly to splat rollers to punish bad positioning with ninja squid

    Is it better to paint the floor by flicking or rolling?

    • @demithefiend
      @demithefiend Год назад

      i use flingza and it kinda depends. If i'm wanting to cover a large area, i'll flick, but for smaller areas i'll just roll over it

  • @nox_luna
    @nox_luna 2 года назад +1

    i really HATE the carbon roller. its too weak.
    splat/flingza is really good though, dynamo is a bit different and slow but good, you can almost compete with a charger with dynamo cause its vertical is massive.
    btw using curling bomb as a mobility option might be bad advice, it paints a clear trail of where youre going and people are going to try to cut you off, its a bit predictable.

    • @Phonochirp
      @Phonochirp  2 года назад +1

      The key word is "option". It's basically the only method a roller has to approach without team assistance. Just be careful you're not predictable, don't follow right behind every single one. With ninja squid in particular you can leave opponents guessing.

    • @nox_luna
      @nox_luna 2 года назад

      @@Phonochirp i havent had as much luck with ninja squid, people seem to be able to follow the little dent in the paint.
      i just manually ninja by swimming slower and that seems to function better

    • @SCU3A_S7EVE
      @SCU3A_S7EVE 2 года назад +1

      @@nox_luna - I run splat roller with ninja squid and 2 mains + 3 subs swim speed and find it *very* effective, even in S+ anarchy modes. As you said, the curling bombs are predictable-which also makes them excellent decoys.

    • @libertyadams5961
      @libertyadams5961 2 года назад +1

      @@SCU3A_S7EVE I agree, I also use a ninja kit, also a roller main. Curling bombs get you out of sticky situations since your mobility isn't the best and winding up a swing takes time. Also a great decoy, not to mention the sheer amount of kills you can get once you've mastered controlling the distance it travels and can use it as a really versatile bomb. It goes ignored more often than you think, and is great in situations where there's a lot of environmental hazards. In S2 I didn't even main ninja because it was so swim speed hungry, so S3 ninja is a nice change

    For splat roller, is rolling or flicking better for painting?

    • @Phonochirp
      @Phonochirp  2 года назад +2

      Technically flicking, BUT rolling can cover small areas solidly and quickly. so in splat zones it's a good option to swipe a zone that isn't actively being contested

      Flingza and Splat are probably what you're looking for when you ask for the best.
      Dynamo and Carbon are a little less consistent since they're stronger with bigger weaknesses to exploit.
