“Postmortem” means “after death” in Latin. Most commonly, the term refers to a postmortem examination, or autopsy, conducted on a corpse in order to determine cause of death. This Slayer song explores preoccupation with death as a means to a new, transcendent life. i thought it was preoccupation with gangland murders, nasty homicides, reading the news, that was the initial inspiration for the song, as in 'fatality, reality, await the final call.'
Slayer...i listen to you since i am ten years roundabout old through my brothers friends, who showed me your music...that was roundabout 1986...i didn't know what you were singin about, but the guitarriffs, the bass ,the drums, the voice and the power in the music made me totally happy and i made myself a metalvest with patches.my grandmom showed me how to bring them on the vest...raining blood and south of heaven are still my top favorite songs.we have 2023 now and i will be forever a fan, even if you are in well deserved pension now if i readed right in the media...#slayerforlive
1:20 the first time I heard this song, I was driving back from work after smoking a gigantic bowl, probably 16-17. And when they bring this riff back.. I completely lost it. Its so simple but so powerful. I was smiling and headbanging like a crazy person. It was like I lost control of my body. Never forget it.
THAT'S THE FIRST SONG I HEARD SLAYER PLAY AS A KID,IT NEVER MAKES ME TURN IT OFF,I JUST PLAY IT LOUDER & PIECE BY PIECE, GREAT SPEACH TOM!..👏👏🤘METAL ROCKS.!
Man the riffs on this song. They kill any thrash riffs from the big 4. Sometimes I wonder if we would ever have the chance to listen to riffs like this ever or was it a just one time in history thing.
Dave's the king of Thrash metal drumming. He was one of the pioneers. Now every kid 6 and up can play all this stuff. But big deal back then. Dave's a beast
Because Reign in Blood really is the soundtrack to the apocalypse. When this was written, from beginning to end, they had captured lightning in a bottle. This is basically the greatest speed metal CD every put out.

As a drummer, and the simple fact that dave was new to being back in the band at this time. I can tell he struggled a bit at the end here. Don't get me wrong, as time went on he made it look easier and easier, but it takes time for the muscle memory to come back when your playing in a band like Slayer \m/
Dave is the man But his replacement - the mighty Paul Bostoph is absolutely great ! It's like in Metallica - Dave Mustaine is great and his replacement Kirk Hammett is great too!
why does it seem whenever people list their favorite slayer songs there seems to be no love for post mortem ?? post mortem / raining blood is a must listen to quench that need for heavy metal.
The main riff to this song awesomely skull crushingly heavy.
One of Jeff Hanneman's best songs that he's written.
RIP Jeff sadly missed
one my favorites to play on guitar, it's the second only to Raining Blood
Jeremy Slaney ya but hell where it's at all real slayer cryonics will see Jeff again. fucking Slayerrrrrr
best track on R.I.T.
I'm sooo addict to that song dammmm Slayer simply the Best of all Legends !!
Slayer's melodies are totally underrated, especially given what a crushingly heavy and intense band they are 👍
One of the few Slayer songs without lead, pure masterpiece.
One of the reasons its so good
The REAL Slayer - Hanneman, King, Araya and Lombardo.
And me !
There’s no real slayer. There’s the original lineup and the new lineup… all GREAT musicians. Deal with it (unless you’re not a real fan!)

Gary is great, but Bostaph isn't close to as good as Dave.
Agreed. Without Jeff and Dave, it’s a cover band.
I’m 21 and I would have love to seen them when my dad did in the Show No Mercy era when they played with Venom.
No one can touch Jeff's lyrics.....no one.I miss him a lot. RIP

There are many ways one can die
Many ways one can achieve death
Many ways one can achieve ... POSTMORTEM
Technically very true... It's much easier to die than to live.
A true pledge for those who have fought during their entire life against the odds no matter their walk of life.
Lyrics:
Funeral held for the depression of man
Holds the key to his own death
Entering a tomb of a corpse yet conceived
Tighten the tourniquet around your neck
Sifting away the debris of hated life
Cold touch of death begins to chill your spine
Seeking life beyond your perishment
Repeating words echoing through your mind
Chanting lines of blind witchery
To save yourself from extinction
Wanting to die is your reason to live
New life born from the oppressed
Taste your blood as it trickles through the air
Another casualty beyond the shadows you fall
Losing ground, the fate you feel it draws near
Fatality, reality, you await the final call
My sinful glare at nothing holds thoughts of death behind it
Skeletons in my mind commence tearing at my sanity
Vessels in my brain carry death until my birth
Come and die with me forever
