At Riotfest in Chicago, I made up my mind to finally see Janes Addiction, one of my top 5 bands. Slayer was playing opposite of them on the south side of the fest. While walking past, I heard the most evil unholy, music ever. I was mesmerized. I still have never seen Janes Addiction.
I so love the intro riff, so articulate, menacing, expressive. After growing up a bit you learn to appreciate things like that, composition, inspiration, not just heaviness or speed, feel me?
I remember watching this episode of Henry’s show back at the time. Tom gave him that sly “how’s that for ya” look at the end, and Henry was just grinning in ecstasy after that performance.
This is what real metal is. Not Andy Sixx screaming about how hard is life is and trying to look cool. These guys ooze cool, and they are what metal is and should always be! \m/
Slayer isn’t death metal but a lot of the stuff they came up with led to Death Metal. They’re kinda proto-Death in that sense. The other early thrash bands definitely were not. That’s the difference.
