1:50 - explanation of the start/stop knobs. this is a golden nugget of information, thanks.... I have this pedal, but I never really noticed what exactly the start/stop affected. this pedal is amazing, it can turn my Casio CZ101 flute preset into a mellotron like timbre especially when going into a delay.
i know im randomly asking but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I love any help you can offer me
@Ameer Dylan thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I just got the EHX for synths, based mostly on hearing what you did here. I really like how easy it is to get different musical sounds by tweaking the start and stop of the phase, and your video totally turned me onto that. The Poly is also '70s as hell--which is a good thing. **Thanks for all the great teaching and playing!**
I just bought this today used and I love the pedal..I am a guitar player but I think your use of this effect on a Rhoades is really cool..I really like the sounds u r getting..cool vibe!
Great review and playing as usual! In envelope mode it reminds me of the Pigtronix envelope phaser. And in "classic" mode it seems to sound great. One thing I regret on most phasers though is the impossibility to tune the smoothness of the triangle end: let's say the ability to tune it to a sine shape gradually. I have many phasers have a great and pure phase effect, but that smoothness is often ruined by the exaggerated very local "wah" noise when the phase reverses. Having smoother triangle or sine shapes, or the ability to tune that would be great. That said I'm a big phaser collector :) One I'd like to try once is the vintage Ibanez Flying Pan :) Cheers!
Another phaser fanatic! Awesome. The next phaser review I'm releasing does what you're talking about - it has a huge variety of waveshapes. In fact, too many! Stay tuned :) One thing that could be done with this EHX pedal, since it has an expression input, is to use synth modules to dial in the exact waveshape you want in an LFO and send that voltage to the pedal. I'll have to experiment with that!
I really appreciate these demonstrations you do. I really enjoyed your last Rhodes phaser video as well. I've been thinking of putting together an effects rig just for my Rhodes so I don't have to take apart my guitar pedal rig so often. I'm thinking of just running it through my Eurorack, but have yet to really come across something that sounds this good as a phaser!
Thanks Steven! I know what you mean about having to take apart your guitar rig...I'm constantly doing that to use certain pedals for Rhodes/synths. As far as Eurorack fx, do you happen to have a multi-mode VCF with a Notch output? You could probably dial in a pretty nice phaser with that. In fact, I should try that!
mootbooxle Good point and thank you for the tip! I have a uVCF that has a BPF out-- maybe I can invert that to do the trick. I'll try to report back when I've tested it. In particular, I like using my modular with my Rhodes because I can get some really cool tempo synced effects (via MIDI-CV converters).
mootbooxle I can't wait! I've been watching your channel since the "Ghetto Talk Box" and I've really been enjoying seeing more from you recently-- you make great stuff!
I tested out the Rhodes + inverted BPF filter-- I either wasn't doing something right or it wasn't comparable to a pedal. I have a feeling it has to do with the fact that most pedals have multiple stages, and using one filter is just one stage. Perhaps I just need to buy more eurorack filters haha.
Excellent review, thanks Moot ! What's the song at the very end of this video, and where can I get it (I really like it) ? BTW, that Rhodes sure sounds good, especially in great hands.
Nice video, great riffs, and the Ehx Stereo Polyphase sounds great. I use two Ehx Small Stone, one the right channel and one to other. Use it on strings on a synth, so i can have different speed on right and left channel, sounds great.
I’m using this Rhodes with a speakeasy power supply - just gives you stereo 1/4” outs like would be the “preamp out” on a Suitcase amp. I use one of those outputs for pedals and stuff. the FX loop is broken on my Rhodes, but I’m planning to rebuild the whole preamp pretty soon.
Hi! Would you rather choose the EH Polyphase or the Small Stone? Also, I just got my Rhodes and I wanted to know what kind of soundcard (or else) I should buy to record it in Logic. Thanks!
Hey Moot, I've got a Vintage Vibe 64 Active. It's got a stereo out with tremolo. But it's too clean! Do you know of recommend any effect that is also in stereo that adds a little crunch?
I bet it sounds great!! But to add some dirt, you could get a stereo tube preamp and just crank it. That's what I do a lot when I run into my JC-120 these days, I put an ART TubeMP at the end of the chain and crank the input gain to where it cooks the tube a bit.
mootbooxle I would like to use cheap Behringer with classic Vermona Piano String. Should works fine. You can find at yt guy whi try Vermona with Behringer. Sounds pretty cool. Like J M. Jarre
either that or one of those Motion Sound amps that throws a 3D sound field, but probably what I would do is just run it into the PA and use my amp just as a monitor.
That would be really cool! I remember when I was like 13/14 I tried to make your ghetto talk box and failed so hard. 9 or 10 years ago probably, crazy.
I'm a fan for sure, especially the Blade Runner stuff. Anything with the CS-80 on it. I haven't kept up with his work post-80s. I actually went on a big Vangelis listening binge lately. :)

Wow, CZ101, theres a memory from my past. Used it for some special sounds in our music in my club days, in conjunction with Memorymoog and Jupiter 6
i know im randomly asking but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?

@Hassan Leo instablaster =)
@Ameer Dylan thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.

I can listen for hours and hours to this.....thanx!

Cool! Didnt know there is a stereo phaser. Just what i need for my Alesis Rhodes and Wurly patches. Thx for a great demo!
Sounds wonderful.
Love your E Piano playing.
Thanks, and best wishes.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my videos!

Thanks Alain! The song at the end is "Bellringer" from my album "Bare Hands II" available on my website (link is in the description)!
Nice effect. Kind of reminds me of my early 80's Castle Phaser III that was set up for stereo output. Good rich stereo sound.
Beautiful, this is exactly what I was looking for!
Your videos and playing are great! Have you reviewed plugin vst/au compressors? Trying to find the best one for Rhodes
Whats the descending chords from that you go into playing around 6:58-7:08.... very nice
Hey Moot, can you do more videos demonstrating effects pedals with your Rhodes? please and thanks.
Beautiful tones there Moot! I have Rhodes and a MXR Phaze-90 pedal.
Goosebumps
You have a new subscriber! I really enjoy you play and how you set Moog (turning knobs wisely :) ) Sorry about my english and keep on!
Nice video, great riffs, and the Ehx Stereo Polyphase sounds great. I use two Ehx Small Stone, one the right channel and one to
other. Use it on strings on a synth, so i can have different speed on right and left channel, sounds great.
That is a really fun thing to do! Maybe sometime I will do a video showing two parallel phasers like that. Cool stuff!
that square LFO segment was beautiful, moot
Thank you my friend!
@mootbooxle are you going into the pedal off the harp? of the rhodes preamp?
Mmm what a tasty riff at 10:30.
I love this video frequency man.
Sounds like higer ground
thank you my friend! That was Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground. :)
I noticed that you're not using the effects out jack. Are you coming directly off the harp?
I’m using this Rhodes with a speakeasy power supply - just gives you stereo 1/4” outs like would be the “preamp out” on a Suitcase amp. I use one of those outputs for pedals and stuff. the FX loop is broken on my Rhodes, but I’m planning to rebuild the whole preamp pretty soon.
That sounds lovely :) After watching this, I just bought this pedal on ebay!
7:30 Square LFO "not very useful" but you played along the effect's LFO tempo beautifully. very cool.
Bro, you could make the shittiest pedal sound lush and useful haha 😂 your playing is so enjoyable to listen to, even when you're just testing gear
Hi! Would you rather choose the EH Polyphase or the Small Stone? Also, I just got my Rhodes and I wanted to know what kind of soundcard (or else) I should buy to record it in Logic. Thanks!

Are you playing a Suitcase Rhodes model here? I don't think so because of the 'legs'?
The very first (FX) excerpt sounds like it has slow-tremolo as well. And at 9:50 like an auto-wah!
excellent phaser, thanx for test!!!
thank you! It's definitely one of my favorites!
mootbooxle i saw your behringer phaser comparsion. its also Worth of 25 bucks!
+lcaise oh man, it's a must have for that price!
mootbooxle I would like to use cheap Behringer with classic Vermona Piano String. Should works fine. You can find at yt guy whi try Vermona with Behringer. Sounds pretty cool. Like J
M. Jarre
Nice review! Can you do the Phase 100 next?
To run this live, would you need to use two amps to get the full effect?
either that or one of those Motion Sound amps that throws a 3D sound field, but probably what I would do is just run it into the PA and use my amp just as a monitor.
seems that many have underestimated the polyphase including myself
Hey man cause of you now I have my polyphase happy with it thanks for the beautiful demonstration
What would happen if you plugged this into some dirt cheap old ass pawn shop Casio or similar? The cheapest you could get that would work with it.
I will do that and upload a clip to show you. :) The answer is, it sounds great with anything!
That would be really cool! I remember when I was like 13/14 I tried to make your ghetto talk box and failed so hard. 9 or 10 years ago probably, crazy.
It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since that was made! Crazy but true!
Sorry spelled Rhodes wrong
I'm curious what you think of Vangelis' work?
I'm a fan for sure, especially the Blade Runner stuff. Anything with the CS-80 on it. I haven't kept up with his work post-80s. I actually went on a big Vangelis listening binge lately. :)
Btw..great chops
This is very Lonnie Liston Smith
Was this pedal discontinued or am I losing my mind?
I have no earthly idea. I bought it used about a year ago.
Ah okay cheers Moot
+Disc147 Cheers!! :)
What is the tune you start to play at 10:30?
"Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder. :)
I should've known that.
Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder
