Didn't the idea of Serpentor come from Cobra-La influencing Dr. Mindbender in the UK comics? (Seems the UK stuff was left out of this one- no biggie- great video.) Also, there was a funny story called "My Dinner with Serpentor" where he talks about creating pizza. Larry Hama has said this was one of his least favorite characters (even to draw).
They ruined GI Joe with that Cobra La story line. Should had left it as American military vs terrorist group. I never cared or collected Serpentor and the Cobra La toyline. It got too weird and don’t fit the military cartoon shows. We have Thundercats and He-Man shows for that fantasy. At least the ninjas and BATS works.
I liked cobra commander better. I think serpentor was a great idea but they destroyed his personality. You'd think he'll have more class as a ruler but he whined a lot.
I remember loving those Cobra La figures. Especially the guy that was half snakes. But I was so shook up when he threw that snake through Dukes chest. (In the movie that is) Messed up man.
Yeah that snake through the chest shook me too as a Kid... and although I always liked his character design, as a kid I was like "who the heck is this guy? and why does he outrank cobra commander??"
Serpentor was an impressive genetic abomination. His death in the DIC series was humiliating. After Cobra Commander was restored to humanoid form (he was turned in a snake in GI Joe the movie by mutagenic spores), Serpentor got turned into a lizard.
Serpentor was my childhood. I was obsessed with him 😂. I always hated Cobra Commander & favored Destro. So when Serpentor was introduced I was beyond excited. With my allowances I purchased all of his merchandise 😂. I watched & owners all of his tv & movie appearances. I was PISSED once Commander returned & he was transformed into a pet!
I actually dug the cobra-La storyline and serpentor, but gotta admit I felt bad for poor old cobra commander, snake eyes was the coolest character of all time! He is universally loved! The best episodes where when Snakeyes battled Storm shadow and they revealed their origins!
GI Joe the movie was dope. Looking back I can see how it’s a little nonsensical, but some of the greatest stuff comes out of departures from canon. No examples to give off hand.
I'm 45. Was raised watching GI Joe and The Transformers as a child and don't remember hearing about the crossover. Can you imagine that as a movie?? That'd be very badass. Or even that combined with the Marvel universe.
I feel like it would be interesting if we had a dynamic of Serpentor and Cobra Commander in the same way we have The Emperor and Darth Vader. Like one is the one pulling the strings behind the whole operation, while the other is carrying out his orders and fulfilling his master’s agenda, while at the same time having his own agenda and engaging in combat more, and thus becoming the more recognizable main antagonist.
I am glad I saw this. It now explains why, on the cover of the new Classified Series Serpentor Action Figure box, it has a depiction of him cauterizing an arm wound with a knife.
@Hamsterk1977 I always think that, history buff loved the way they got people's DNA from old warriors but the moment he woke it just went downhill and started getting weird, I'm team joe but never realized how much I loved Cobra Commander til Serpentor came. Cobraaaaaaa!
Great video, having recently turned 50, Serpentor was one of the last toys I bought before “I had to grow up”, he seemed cool in the comics but here in the UK I don’t think we got much of the cartoons
The late voice actor: Dick "Richard" Gautier will always be honored and remembered as the voice actor for the "Serpentor" character In the G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon from the 1980's ! Dick "Richard" Gautier was also voice actor for the "Rodimus Prime" character In the Transformers G1 cartoon from the 1980's !

The Reptilians came from another planet, their goal was to hide while they slowly replaced humankind as their conquering technique. The main reason is because they cannot reproduce as we can and must use DNA science and cloning techniques to reproduce on this planet. Also, their original planet is far far away which makes a total invasion on their behalf a very complicated event, despite their superior tech and strategic abilities. Humans are still greater in numbers and have the upper hand.

Get homer's ability to get hit without feeling it with a punch to match. Lisa smart's. Bart i dont care attitude. Marge ability to be self efficient. Maggie's dead shot aim. You would have an badass dude or army
Thought it was weird how Golobulus had the idea implanted into Dr. Mindbender.
Definitely an interesting addition to the mythos
Charles Davis not really the extraterrestrial forces can do many things they can implant by way of telepathy etc without the person even knowing it.cobra la is really a true account and transformers Hasbro and those like em study n read where they get the ideas even the movie industry etc all been mixing up actual truths.people are sleep on the matter I've been taught much about the gig.America is built on lies and secrets.name of game is the game is sold not told.
Was even weirder to believe that anything useable can be taken from tomb of a faded body of bones
I think this marked the end of my interest in the cartoon. This or GI Joe in space.
i never liked him over cobra commander
Sepentor was a pale imitation of Cobra Commander.
@@philipdefibaugh7127 and a crybaby too.
I liked cobra commander better. I think serpentor was a great idea but they destroyed his personality. You'd think he'll have more class as a ruler but he whined a lot.
He should gotten along a lot better in the series with each other.
I sided strongly with Cobra Commander and was not surprised that in the GI Joe movie, he abandoned Cobra.
I remember loving those Cobra La figures. Especially the guy that was half snakes.
But I was so shook up when he threw that snake through Dukes chest. (In the movie that is)
Messed up man.
Yeah that snake through the chest shook me too as a Kid... and although I always liked his character design, as a kid I was like "who the heck is this guy? and why does he outrank cobra commander??"
You should make a second serpentor video covering his role in the cobra civil war by IDW were he claims to me of a spiritual leader within cobra .
Serpentor was an impressive genetic abomination. His death in the DIC series was humiliating. After Cobra Commander was restored to humanoid form (he was turned in a snake in GI Joe the movie by mutagenic spores), Serpentor got turned into a lizard.
THIS - I COMMAND!
Serpentor was a beast.
Serpentor, Zartan, Destro & Baroness were my favs. & Snake Eyes of course.
Love the old commercial sound bytes.
I actually dug the cobra-La storyline and serpentor, but gotta admit I felt bad for poor old cobra commander, snake eyes was the coolest character of all time! He is universally loved! The best episodes where when Snakeyes battled Storm shadow and they revealed their origins!
I think it´s a stupid idea engineer a guy to boss you around specially using the DNA of ancient tyrants.
Serpentor is just so damn awesome Cobraaa lalalalalalala 💚
GI Joe the movie was dope. Looking back I can see how it’s a little nonsensical, but some of the greatest stuff comes out of departures from canon. No examples to give off hand.
I'm 45. Was raised watching GI Joe and The Transformers as a child and don't remember hearing about the crossover. Can you imagine that as a movie?? That'd be very badass. Or even that combined with the Marvel universe.
His cape survived for about the first day I had him.
I feel like it would be interesting if we had a dynamic of Serpentor and Cobra Commander in the same way we have The Emperor and Darth Vader. Like one is the one pulling the strings behind the whole operation, while the other is carrying out his orders and fulfilling his master’s agenda, while at the same time having his own agenda and engaging in combat more, and thus becoming the more recognizable main antagonist.
great narration bro
good video ,
I just bought this comic. Had to after watching this. You made it sound like a necessity for any red blooded American.
I find it crazy Serpentor was experimentally cloned even years way before it was such a thing ..
@Mr Hairy Octopus thanks for the tip .. 😏
I am glad I saw this. It now explains why, on the cover of the new Classified Series Serpentor Action Figure box, it has a depiction of him cauterizing an arm wound with a knife.
I felt like Joe started going downhill when Serpentor came out.
@Hamsterk1977 I always think that, history buff loved the way they got people's DNA from old warriors but the moment he woke it just went downhill and started getting weird, I'm team joe but never realized how much I loved Cobra Commander til Serpentor came. Cobraaaaaaa!
I had that toy. Got it for Xmas when I was a kid.
This synopsis is so good. I’m nerding out lol
lol thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it
Great video, having recently turned 50, Serpentor was one of the last toys I bought before “I had to grow up”, he seemed cool in the comics but here in the UK I don’t think we got much of the cartoons
I ended up with 3 serpentors
I will always remember the day my grandma came to visit and gave me serpentor
So he has Storm Shadows DNA to?2:39
Awesome video👍
It's amazing that no one ever dies in the cartoon. But in the comics. All types of characters die.
I had this comic book back I the 80s. Bought the book in San Francisco. Saturday morning.
I remember there was also a villain who actually had a snake body, literally no legs, human torso and snake body
DC Hans Shangri-La they were in there there’s three of them
His name is "Golobulus"
Yeah that’s a part of GIJoe, the less said the better
DC Hans yeah that was colobulus yap the leader of the extraterrestrial reptilian's.I had a lot of paragraph for u but I erased all of it telling about where the story of cobra la really talking about n transformers they r 1 n the same true accounts.Hasbro like the movie industry toy industry the cartoons comics etc all r not original idea's.well aight peeeice
Who else likes the fact that cobra took mad dumps on cobra commander when they created serpentor
"Serpentor should have Shaka Zulu's DNA inside himself so he could do the bull horn formation."
