Growing up I always got snake eyes and my brother always got storm shadow. These to characters were Paramount to our childhoods and I can't even begin to describe all the adventures we put these characters through. I really appreciate watching these videos , it's amazing seeing the old comic book covers from the 80s that I had from pouring through boxes of comics at second hand book stores. I really feel bad for kids that didn't grow up in the 80's/ early 90's it truly was a golden age .
Those 2 characters were literally why I got into GI Joe the movie treated them secondary and blew a chance at a marvel blockbuster they had the perfect actors for them
keone young no way? The soft spiked voice from the 80s cartoon? Man I’d always try to talk like you when I was a kid and stormshadow was about to kick the shit out of somebody. Lol. Very cool!!
You don't even know the joy I experienced as a kid when I went down the aisle at the toy store and found the "good guy" version of Storm Shadow. Back when it was first come, first serve and no online shopping. To find the G.I. Joe figure you were chasing was like a dream come true.
As a kid growing up in the 80s, Stormshadow and Snake-Eyes were my two favorites of the Joes. :) I did prefer the comic (Hama) version over the dilluted and rarely seen Sunbow-Marvel one... and don't get me started on the travesty of the DIC G.I. Joe. :P
Thank you. I'm in the UK and over here they suddenly stopped publishing the comic (here it was called Action Force) for no apparent reason. They stopped just around the time when Storm Shadow awoke from the water tank. All these years I wondered what happened and you've just filled in the gaps. Thank you. One thing I get from this is that the idea of killing characters and bringing them back doesn't really work out well. Anyway... many thanks again. This was interesting.
Wow! Excellent job! You used mostly the canon ARAH series for this one! IMO, what could have amped this vid up a notch is if you included the Storm Shadow solo series that was published in DDP. As per Larry Hama, it's 1 of the ONLY GI Joe related series that was not published by Marvel and/or IDW to be a part of the ARAH continuity. The other series that's part of that same continuity is the Snake Eyes Declassified series. In the Storm Shadow solo series, we are introduced to another Non-Japanese member of the Arishikage clan who eventually masters mystic sword skills that surpass both Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. Sadly, that member died of complications of Stage 4 Cancer while in combat. We are also introduced to Pale Peony (whom you referenced in the vid). After several combative encounters w/ Pale Peony (who had some kind of "iron man" style ninja tech powered armor in that series), Storm Shadow recruits her into the Arishikage clan. It's safe to say that soon after he brought her to Japan, Pale Peony started training under Demon Granny (the Hard Master's widow). Honestly, I wouldn't exactly say that Storm Shadow was Snake Eye's most fearsome foe. I say this because years later, a perm amped Serpentor took that role in the Death of Snake Eyes arc.
I started collection GI Joe comics with that Silent issue #21. I was absolutely fascinated by both Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes....they were my favorite part of the series.
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were 2 of the Greatest characters and action figures in all of GiJoe. Why is there no love for Quick Kick? He's also a martial arts master who fought Storm Shadow all the time when Snake Eyes wasn't around.
I love Storm Shadow. He truly become an idol after Sho Kosugi s 3 film trilogy would become cult classics. My personal Joe favorites have always been samurai Budo and Emperor Serpentor along with the original Storm Shadow. JoBra.
I lost my stormshadow when I was 9....we were in the back yard conducting a winter battle in the snow, stormshadow was in stealth mode in a “snow drift” when I went to get him for the ambush attack..I couldn’t find him in the snow.....I thought we would find him when the snow thawed out.....nope.....
As a child I did enjoy the animated series but as I was growing up you see how different and mature the source material was and is throwing action and a bit of drama which makes it more interesting and Storm Shadow was a tragic character but truly badass, the Resolute version was ruthless and eager to prove to Snake, his brother, that we was the worthy Arashikage heir, the version in the two movies was very cold and dangerous and I liked it, especially in the second one, both movies presented the relationship between the two ninjas in brotherly way, as for the spin off let's see how it turns out, then again great job.
great video jesse i love these history /bios i want to make a few of these my self but i know they take alot of hardwork & research or knowledge of the characters
I really wish sometimes you wouldn't gloss over the Image/Devil's Due continuity (2001-2008) which beautifully continued from the Hama's Marvel series and had a spectacular run and ending. It's a great timeline and I think you guys should talk about that timeline before going back into Hama's continuity (155 1/2 - present). So many great directions and character development from Devil Due. 👍
When i was in the 4th grade we had a christmas gift lottery....and i got the white and grey hoodie storm shadow....one of the happiest days of my life.....
Love the video. You found some rare and nice artwork. I love the 1st appearance and the Snake Eye origin story. But all the other stories were more silly (the terminator robot) and multiple brainwashing? I did read the Cobra Commander's son and stuff, but I lost interest by then already. And it did not look like I missed much. The magic was those few issues.
I really hope they do right by Snake eyes for his movie & its not all goofy & "diverse"... Just make a really good origin/ war/ ninjitsu/ Stormshadow movie.
I like Henry Goulding, but I thnk he is miscasted as Snake Eye. He has no martial arts training (or that is not he is known for) and Snake-Eye is supposed to be a white guy. Usually I am okay with if you switch races like Samuel L Jackson playing Nick Fury, but race is important to the Snake Eye/Storm Shadaow story. I know Henry is not Japanese; so, he is technically still an outsideer. But he is Asain, which makes the contrast not as big when he is accepted by the ninja clan. But maybe I am wrong. I did not lkie Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman, but it worked out. I hope I am wrong and not the studio picking the "IT" person for the moment in casting Henry Goulding.
Around 12:27 you mispronounced PEONY as PONY. They are quite popular flowers in Japan.....for some reason. In Japanese, 牡丹 (botan) if your interested. Like the videos.✌🏻
So storm shadow is both protagonist and antagonist He is basically one of the most iconic anti heroes o.o ever and this is coming from someone who grew up with g.i. joe
Huge favor to ask. Can you do video on Metal Head and the Rock Viper. Also, start adding vehicles and bases. I’ll gladly step up and help with research.
Actually the Storm Shadow series that Hama wrote is still cannon. It takes place between when GI Joe was shut down and when we see Storm shadow again in the continuation. Hama considers the issues he wrote for DDP as a part of his cannon. So his declassified issues also count. Otherwise the Morning light story Obasan and the Russians wouldn’t mean anything.
Storm Shadow has always been one of the best characters created. Just recently I feel like if Mortal Kombat made a White Ninja he'd look similar to him.
How in the hell did you document all this? Good job. This is like a daytime drama. Did you like the snake eyes movie? I didn't read the comics and even though I watched the cartoon I didn't remember a background story for him. So I enjoyed the movie... I wonder what you think since you have all that knowledge.
GI Joe real American Hero #269 Will have two variant covers Storm Shadow and Snake eyes On sale 1/8/20 Im getting two copies of each cover Don't miss out get yours Yo Joe
@Tellestus 0 One has to eventually lose. In the originally run ending with issue 155 GI Joe had to fold up shop. It contined with IDW but Cobra is still causing chaos with his will to dominate the entire world. GI Joe has done a good job keeping Cobra at bay. But one day I hope to see a winner of the two.
@Tellestus 0 In war people get killed. Either a lot of Joes need to go down or Cobra and his leaders do. But I understand everyome l9ves these characters too much for that to happen. But of course we've lost some along the way.
What about the "Jugglers" plotline (original first-run Marvel comics)?! Storm Shadow and Stalker (not Snake-Eyes) are arrested, tortured, and imprisoned. They are framed and charged with treason by corrupt US Generals [The Jugglers] who imprisoned them. But both Joes escape their confinement and fight a multitude heavily armed guards barehanded, and win. After their breakout both Joes make their way to Storm Shadows secret hideout [water tower] to regroup and rearm. On the way, they travel through New York (where they were being held) and have an encounter with a group of street criminals on a subway. The criminals think both men are 'bums' and easy pickings. But the leader of the criminals [street gang] notices the Joe's ripped blood-stained clothes and bloodied hands and arms that occurred during their escape from the Jugglers. The leader of the gang comments, "These guys look, HARD...". And with just a look [death stare] from both Joe's and a few words of warning, the group of criminals flee to the other end of the subway and never look back. Soon after departing the subway, just when they both Joes think they can catch their collective breathes and contemplate how to clear themselves of the charges, the red Ninjas attack out of nowhere.
Would be alot more interesting if the bad guys won once in a while. This is where the original Star Wars trilogy got it right with The Empire Strikes Back. It made for a great story line. If theyre going to make more of these movies they should have the villains come out on top, & make their Cobra Commander a much better fighter too.
Storm shadow is definitely one of the best developed characters in the comics.
Yeah he definitely has one of the best character development in G.I. Joe
Hands down the best
Dont forget quick kick Lol he bested stormshadow a few times...

I hope you two aren't bitter enemies as adults. D:
@@dubuyajay9964 during our childhood Stormshadow went from villian to hero, my brother always played him as part of the Joe's
@@josephskiles Still haven't told me how well you two get along.
@@dubuyajay9964 LoL, well I haven't sworn any blood oaths against him......... recently anyhow

Great Vid. Keone Young, Storm Shadow voice here! Quick Kick (Francois Chau) and I will be hitting the Con circuit in 2020. Hope to see you there.
Any plans to do videos on your channel?
You guys are truly awesome...thank you for your great work and contributions !
We all grew up loving Snake Eyes but we all eventually became Storm Shadow
I was the original voice of Storm Shadow. Come see me at a Con near you!!!!
Storm Shadow after 35 years is making a come back against the Joe's and it's fans thru youtube.
keone young no way? The soft spiked voice from the 80s cartoon? Man I’d always try to talk like you when I was a kid and stormshadow was about to kick the shit out of somebody. Lol. Very cool!!
My favorite character
@-OMEGA- you kind of just explained why lmao
This is so good to learn about the origins of heroes and villains in the GI Joe history
You don't even know the joy I experienced as a kid when I went down the aisle at the toy store and found the "good guy" version of Storm Shadow. Back when it was first come, first serve and no online shopping. To find the G.I. Joe figure you were chasing was like a dream come true.
Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes top two favorite
It took forever for me to find a storm shadow figure back in the day. I assume it was one of the most popular figures.
J Donner That’s what happened to me with the second Snake Eyes figure (with Timber).
Oh it was
we got ours at Dolgin's. just as Snake Eyes with the wolf Timber finally appeared.
Cool story, thanks 👍. I grew up with GI Joe. Brings back some good memories.
Always loved Storm Shadow GI Joe action figure
I still have my Storm Shadow figure on my desk. Always loved the Snake Eyes - Storm Shadow back story.
Joe. :P
I liked the Storm Shadow - Spirit rivalry in the cartoon.
Be careful with the DIC bro.... I will flame this mother Fer all to hell.

Wish more commentary on Snake eyes like Storm Shadow but thanks for your time and effort🤘🤘
I always loved Storm Shadow
Gator Croc. Yeah so am I
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were 2 of the Greatest characters and action figures in all of GiJoe. Why is there no love for Quick Kick? He's also a martial arts master who fought Storm Shadow all the time when Snake Eyes wasn't around.
Name isn’t as catchy/cool [>
I always liked Storm Shadow more than Snake Eyes. He felt more flawed and human, and had an even greater sense of mystery, at least to me.
Cool cool cool!!! Snake and Shadow are my all time favorites!!!
Great Storm Shadow explained lore! Thanks a bunch! :)
My favorite cobra character aside from the evil twins Tomax & Xamot.
It's the NINJA! who doesn't like NINJAS! 👍💪
I love Storm Shadow. He truly become an idol after Sho Kosugi s 3 film trilogy would become cult classics. My personal Joe favorites have always been samurai Budo and Emperor Serpentor along with the original Storm Shadow. JoBra.
Yes another great video! Keep up the good work, brotherman!
Could this be Billy from double dragon!? Could the splinter clan be Master splinter from tmnt!?!
Nice work Jesse! That was some serious research and it shows. This has to be your longest video yet. I’m already looking forward to the next video!

Junder R maybe we mistreated him?
Same thing happened to me when I buried a dinosaur toy at the beach
I just realized the name, “Snowjob” is funny name. I just haven’t heard it since I was young.
Nice! This was a great video. Keep up the great work!
My favorite Joe
One of my favorite G.I..Joe characters Is Storm Shadow! Storm Shadow Is one of my favorite G.I.Joe characters from the G.I.Joe Lore!
ALWAYS LOVED STORM-SHADOW!!!
Northern California...? One of his file cards read that he was from St Louis.
That's a pretty impressive character continuity 😎👍 great video
Ending the year with quick kick and starting a new year with storm shadow. Very clever.
Storm shadow is So Cool
great video jesse i love these history /bios i want to make a few of these my self but i know they take alot of hardwork & research or knowledge of the characters
A ninja in a white garb is quite strange.
I didn’t know he went back to cobra 🐍

Issue 21, just legendary. Didn't know that was the 1st appearance of Storm Shadow. Anytime I see one, I buy it lol
I like how they bring the original story with Vietnam back into perspective.
I really hope they do right by Snake eyes for his movie & its not all goofy & "diverse"... Just make a really good origin/ war/ ninjitsu/ Stormshadow movie.
Yeah like what they did with transformers, with the bumblebee movie

Around 12:27 you mispronounced PEONY as PONY. They are quite popular flowers in Japan.....for some reason. In Japanese, 牡丹 (botan) if your interested. Like the videos.✌🏻
The mid 80's GI Joe Marvel comics were so much cooler than people realize now. Just the Snake Eyes/ Zartan/ Cobra Commander stuff.
So storm shadow is both protagonist and antagonist
He is basically one of the most iconic anti heroes o.o ever and this is coming from someone who grew up with g.i. joe
I firmly believe Hamas Stormshadow is the reason ninjas became popular in the US. Definitely my first exposure to the culture
You're gonna have to expand that belief to TMNT and Sho Kosugi!
American Ninja was the leading force in early 80's of making ninja popular in United states
Storm Shadow is the Best
Good vid. Can you give the references of the GI joe comic series?
Favorite, even before snake eyes....complicated individual, that's what make him special
I never had the toy when I was a kid growing up but I knew someone who knew someone who had it
Tomisaburo Wakayama hehehhehhe my husband’s favorite actor from the 1970s Samurai films!
i hope everyone knows who Tomisaburo Wakayama is
I remember in the 80s cartoon that Storm Shadow fought Cross-Country. Cross-Country was able to beat him with his unorthodox fight
Huge favor to ask. Can you do video on Metal Head and the Rock Viper. Also, start adding vehicles and bases. I’ll gladly step up and help with research.
I have some comics of Storm Shadow.
I put them on my channel.
Next time can we have a video about Billy
Wow, thank you for this…
Have you made a Destro lore just curious?
Revanche...Psylocke...another Marvel refrence maybe...
No lie...I love the thought of ninjas in San Francisco!!!
Excellent video. Keep up the good work.
Any interest in doing GI Joe / Transformer cross over comic history?

You forgot to mention that in the DIC continuation of the Marvel cartoonsStorm shadow was a good guy.
I would like to learn the way if archery and swords man ship.
Storm Shadow has always been one of the best characters created. Just recently I feel like if Mortal Kombat made a White Ninja he'd look similar to him.

Spirit in storm shadow where more enemies in the cartoon
Cobra now Cobra forever
I still have issue 24, I wonder how much it is worth now?!
What about his fight with Spirit Iron Knife in the cartoon?
I want to know who finally wins this war! Cobra or the GI Joes!?
@Tellestus 0 Then who wins without the doubt?
@Tellestus 0 One has to eventually lose. In the originally run ending with issue 155 GI Joe had to fold up shop. To get 8 degree in the martial arts I study you need to practice for like 40 + years! How old is storm shadow?
I’m really really not happy about the actors being replaced

Do Duke
So in this universe their like cyber lin kuei
Storm Shadow is the Vegeta of GI Joe
I did not know jinx and Storm Shadow was related 😎
Can you do a video on Firefly?
G.i.joe needs to make a come back on tv with a whole new series like that or a new brand animate movie Rated R G.i.Joe
