    • @havcola6983
      @havcola6983 13 дней назад

      No they won't. The capacity is too low in relation to the upkeep. You'd need 30-100 of these (depending on how willing people are to ride-share) to match the capacity of a single commuter bus. ONE bus. Imagine how much more that'll cost in maintience alone. And imagine the congestion in rush hour. If you intend to replace the buses of a large city with these you're talking about an influx of fifty or hundreds of thousands of vehicles into already congested cities.
      At best these will be an alternative to Uber... in safe, gated upper middle-class neighborhoods where there's no risk of someone just placing an obstacle in the road to force the 'driver' to stop, then treating the pod like a Kinder egg filled with isolated easily robbable passengers.

    She end up not explaining the main reason why the car is symmetrical. It's mainly because of production cost reasons.
    One of the things that make a car expensive to produce is the molds made to produce the body panels. They are VERY expensive. Which is one of the reasons a car is only cost effective if made in large numbers. So in order to make it cheaper to produce, the best way is to cut on the quantity of molds. Also since the glasses used are also symmetrical, this also helps reduce cost of production (car glass is also very expensive to produce).
    With the car being symmetrical, you cut the cost of molds and glass by half. Plus it becomes cheaper to replace parts, since you have way more similar parts that can be used on several cars, on both sides, front or back. Instead of needing that one specific new piece that only fits on that one specific place in the car.

      Remember there's cameras and AI, so even if they don't watch you, then can see that you left a mess when you came out that wasn't there when you got in. They can literally charge you a huge amount or permaban you for that. Best believe that if I have access to a super comfy taxi service for half price in not letting any of my friends F that up for me when they're drunk. I'd kick them out myself. 🤣😅

    1. Let's say someone is drunk and throws up in the car. And then that car is given to you. There's trash left inside or dirt. That's more expensive to clean up than hiring a driver.
    2. If that car kills someone, who will be responsible?
    3. How to insure an expensive car that drives in different neighborhoods packed with expensive electronics at night.

    This legit looks a convenient way to commute, i can see it being actually useful than just being gimmicky, it doesn't deviate away from the whole idea of taxi and that's the reason for having good potential for future, but one thing to see in future is whether zoox can survive due to other companies being keen on developing their own tech, and also zoox has to think about the conventional taxi industry, which involves multi billion dollar companies like uber, and also all the drivers who would show heavy resistance to this tech, and all the taxi hailing companies joining hands in crushing this tech, or they may just end up joining hands with zoox..... I think a hybrid model where both taxi drivers and driverless taxis exist should be there,

      As stated, there are already other purpose-built cars that have very similar seat arrangements in other countries. The US is really falling behind here on self-driving vehicles and drones. Also, the entire concept of those back facing seats might work great for some people, but there are many people that have a hard time sitting in back-facing seats on a train which is many fold smoother than the smoothest car ride and they feel like puking 10 minutes in. Not sure if it's just a great design choice honestly. At least in the train you can find a seat that facing the front more easily. Tough call if there's 4 of you calling a Zoox and 3 easily get motion sick.

    I've got some questions..
    But first, I know we have to advance as a species and we can't do that if we don't try out ideas.
    But then, creating a car like this with the tech needed to keep it functional, both on it and for diagnostics and maintenance, isn't that more expensive than having someone in the car doing the driving? Maybe this time with little input just as a taxi or bus, at least over the lifespan of the vehicle.
    Cause I feel with the tech and amount of support it would need in terms of maintenance and stuffs, it would be cheaper to have someone run this over the lifespan of the car, bus, taxi thing.
