Easy! I think it is because I used vegetable shortening. I once used butter when I made the crust Buko Pie and they do crumble. This one is more stable and easy to handle. If you click the recipe link attached, I explained more about the crust there.
Hi! i have a question. It seems that you used a non stick metal pan for your pie right? If so, will the temperature and baking time have any difference if i make it in a glass pie plate? I am asking this cause from all the videos i watched. You were the only one who baked at 180c for 20min and lowered it to 160C for only 35 min. Wouldn't that leave the custard raw still? Others 2nd baking is at 160C for either 45min or even 60min longer. If i do make this in a glass pie plate, how long do you think i should bake it on the 2nd lowering temp phase? Kindly enlighten me cause i really wanna try this recipe. It looks promising! Thanks! :)
Some uses other pie plates like stoneware and not just glass. I used these kind of pan so that my followers from the Philippines can use the pan they have as not many of them have pie pans. It didn't leave the custard raw as you can see on the video. Also, please know that glass pans absorbs too much heat compared to regular pans and for this recipe, I have the metal pan perfect for it. I haven't tried using the glass pan for the recipe so I can't really advise you on the timing and temp.

Cornstarch for thickening, yes. Kasi pag wala it will be too soft. So we need that para mas stable ang filling. Yes you can add lemon zest instead of vanilla. Mas masarap lang talaga ang vanilla. Keep me posted :)

@@JM-ko9js Hi Gas range kasi ang gamit ko and I am not familiar sa oven mo. Pero may nabasa ako both heat should be on pero dahil mataas ang temp ng oven so madali magdark dahil malapit sa heating element. I suggest to check before the set time or lower ng 25 degrees

Pwede naman ang butter kaya lang maraming extra step that you need to do. 1. Make sure cold ang butter. Ilabas mo lang pag ihahalo mo na. 2. Use ICE COLD water not just cold water. 3. Refrigerate the pie crust bago mo ilagay ang filling. 4. Ang pie pagka-bake, may chance na mag-break or mag-crumble pag hiniwa. Just follow all the steps and you're good to make this PIE.
