I was 20 year old McGovern volunteer from Wisconsin 1972. I was at the Paladium celebrating McGovern’s primary victory; standing beside Stephen Stills and Robert Vaughn. 😀 In October, Phil came to Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio to perform a benefit concert for McGovern. I was an Ohio McGovern field coordinator and was able to spend a few minutes with Phil. Phil’s music resonated with me as an anti war activist and democratic socialist. Gave me the courage and persistence to appeal my draft status and avoid the f’n war.

A typical interviewer , who is not listening to Phil , and interrupts him .

I’d love to get this on CD 💿. Not a lot of good interviews on record of Phil. Thanks for posting this. Phil Ochs was a definite gem 💎, ahead of his time!

Marvellous interview great hearing about Phil especially from himself, I recon if he was still around he would be a hole lot wiser and perhaps not a comrade of the current wackos, I could be wrong but I detected a few signs I believe steers me to think so!

Thank you for making this available. If there's a better interview with Phil, I haven't heard or read it. It was nice to hear him talking about how he was still friends with Bob Dylan, swapping songs. It's wonderful to hear Phil talking about about his song. There was so much hope for McGovern, the 72 election was the first year for the 18-year-old vote -- listen to his hope -- After Nixon won, American just got shittier -- his analysis is so astute, and you see it echoed in the scholarship now of that period. The line that Colonel Tom Parker knows more about the American Working Class than the communist party is likewise incisive -- also remember, the American communist party was on ballots and would run candidates at this time and for decades, before Phil was born. The ending is for Phil fans -- I want to record records with a rock and roll content -- IF ONLY!!!

He toured Australia in 72 with his friend Ron Cobb, and while he was there he recorded “Kansas City Bomber” with the band Daddy Cool.
