I wonder if the fact that Huey hits his head on the rock when he falls effects his personality in the later parts? Since we are pretty sure that Corn being the last overtaken probably influenced his panicky nature.
He actually acts the same in present as he did before this video took place in the timeline, same with Corn as a baby as far as I can tell. Huey gets plenty of screentime in the prequel comic and he doesn't change personality-wise at all :)
@@honeydroptheunicorn6557 Oh, yeah, that's what I think too. I think that's (part of) why Amaroq is kind of a jerk to Huey. Also he had lots of bad experiences involving Huey trying to be nice and Amaroq getting in trouble because of it.

Betsy, I keep meaning to tell you that my 8-month-old son is a huge fan of your work, particularly "And the Raven Brought Fire." I first stumbled across your work on Newgrounds a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. When my son was born there were times when I was busy and needed to entertain him with something. I don't like the idea of plunking him down in front of just any old cartoon - I want the kid to grow up having some aesthetic refinement. So one day I decided to show him the Raven animation. He loved it from the first moment and watches it probably four to five times a week. In fact, now that he's older he actually starts bouncing up and down in excitement when your cartoons come on. He doesn't do that for any other non-Betsy Lee productions except one. So you've got yourself one more fan (two, if you count me). Thanks for the beautiful artwork and for introducing me to some off-the-beaten-path music!
I think this one will always be my favorite in the series. The battle between the gods and the Black Tezcatlipoca is essential to the overall plot, and how the land is almost overtaken by darkness forever but is saved at the last moment by the god's sacrifices. Also every time I hear Phil Ochs' rendition of "The Bells" I just get the chills. He did a great job going from uplifting to depressing then back to a happy ending, which this video utilized very well. It amazes me how Poe wrote such a thing that inspires emotions and imagery while maintaining rhythm and rhyme on the one subject of bells. Believe it or not, Ochs' song is a lot shorter than Poe's original poem.

Wow- far cry from how long those last two verse really were, showing how the long time of despair easily swallow up any happiness- and the replay the first verse to lend a happy ending, as Poe's works were known to have dark and sad endings.
titangirl161 Yeah the last two verses especially were different. Then again I suppose if he kept them or most of the verses the way they were originally then this song would be much too long. Not to mention more depressing than most live audiences would probably care for x3

Years and years ago when I browsed youtube for animations, I saw this video from you and was instantly intrigued. I found you to be such an amazing animator and interesting artist. There wasn't a lot of "No Evil" back then. Years went by and I made a new youtube account and had lost this animation to the void of the internet. No one ever knew what I was talking about and I couldn't remember your name. I'm so extremely happy that you kept going on this project and while I currently cannot support you monetarily, I really adore your work and this series. Bless you, your brother, and your team for the work you guys do. I just wanted to say that I love this series, the mythology you included into it and the work in the animation and characters. Thank you for being you! Thank you to the team you now have too! Lots and lot of love and thanks
See so, what gets me is... Amaroq was kind of a jerk in No Evil: Judgment, but here we see he was putting Huey ahead of himself to protect him from the black tezcatlipoca. But in Three For a Death and Conduct, everyone talks like he's some sort of villain. I don't think I've seen him do anything villain-y.
I know he beat up Huey until he was black and blue but we don't know why he was actually banished... I don't understand why he was trying to save Huey in this video... --.-- hmmm...
JackBond1234 I think him saving Huey was kind of a team plan to escape the goo that fell short, not really a heroic sacrifice. As for the ill regard he gets from the others, well, the legendary spirit he is named for was most famous for killing humans.
Yeah... And also you remember how he treated Kitty, when he saved her? I think the only reason he endangered himself to reach her was to see if she could use that machete.
It mentions in the newest episode that, although (and this was mentioned before) spirits "don't work that way", he truly believed he was the guardian spirit for McCoy- which is why he really didn't like Huey. He was helping out in this thing because it benefited "his town" and him as well. I admit to not knowing everything either (I haven't gotten to read the comic yet) but they also mention him being mad at Kitty for some reason regarding fishing- most likely referring to a story about her and Amaroq
Oh my GOD I lost this for the last few years, I was trying to remember the names of the characters a few weeks back and then my home page blessed me with this. Now I can finally finish the series
I'd like to take a moment to stop and appreciate that this video managed to shatter the one million views milestone, quite some time ago. "Small Potatoes" (as I believe she described herself as) Betsy Lee made it on not one, but two videos, and well deserved as could be with this one. Keeping the flow of new, and making it good enough for old fans to return so often to old content like this is no small feat. The No Evil community is a heckin' loyal, wonderful one, and for good reason. She's a heckin' talented, wonderful creator and I'm happy to keep coming back for more.
When everyone was scared and sad and helpless, I felt sadness, and I cried a little. When hope came through and everyone was saved, I cried a little more. How beautiful, and what a wonderful choice of music. Thank you!
8 years later, but... Light domain cleric aarakocra, college of spirits bard hadozee, college of valor bard hadozee, and college of eloquence bard hadozee. Not perfect, but it would work and fit the personalities we see later in No Evil well enough. Just need some magic initiate on the cleric or a dip into druid to pick up shillelagh and use a quarterstaff in one hand and a shield in the other.
I'm on episode 28 and going back to this and watching it in retrospect and seeing all the young characters and understanding who they are is an emotion or feeling that I can't even describe. I SO RESPECT YOU. YOU ARE AN AMAZING ARTIST, ANIMATOR, WRITER, ETC. The voice actors are amazing. I love this story. Thank you. I can't wait to watch your how to draw series.
Corn crying makes me cry, how dare! . . . This is beautiful. I love the animation style and how smooth everything flows together. I can't wait for more episodes
Excuse my ignorance, but who is the spider? She looks important enough to be seen, but only for one video. I would love to know the story of her and how she might relate to the other characters.
She was the one that gave the staff to the raven, she appears in the prequel comics: play.google.com/store/books/details/Betsy_Lee_No_Evil_Judgment?id=HJ0SBgAAQBAJ&hl=en
She is mother spider acording to kitty, when a falling star lands in the webs of mother spider, a spirit is born, and in her webs lies a sword to cut the bonds of magic, and cut the bonds of the black tescotlepolka, but no human shall touch the sword without fainting, and no spirit may come upon it without being stunned by its magical energy.
Oh my gosh, where has this been all this time?! I'm so sad it took me this long to find these beautiful pieces of art! In a few minutes and a song you tell an amazing story and it's all so beautiful!
Years have passed and still every time I watch this video it gives me chills. It is by far one of the best animation with music I've ever seen and even as more years pass by I am convinced it will always be. thank you so much for sharing all of your beautiful work! I love the use of mythology and the ease with which you convey emotion and symbolism.
Wait I get it now! It's called "No Evil" Because of the the part when they get their shadow amulets things. It means Speak no evil, Hear no evil and see no evil! Now I get it... But so far in the series I haven't seen that spider lady yet...
Wait this is 8 years old?! How did I not find this sooner when it was 2012\13? Younger me would've love this. Present day me love this projects Story, Art and when it comes in Music.
Having hit episode 35 I can say without a doubt, this is my favorite animation to ever see on youtube. Story, voice acting, personality, music, sound fx, character design and humor is done perfectly! I also truly enjoy the animation as well. Please keep doing what you do. Much love!
I have never seen someone put such clever twists to mix disparate mythologies before. I desperately love this, and I have been flogging my friends with your work all day!.
She. Is. The. First. Ever. SPIRIT! in one of the episode kitty says " when a shooting star lands in the webs of mama spider s spirit is born." And a sword is in her webs as well. It goes like this "in the webs of mama spider hides the blue tezcotlipoca, with which is cut the bonds of magic, thus cutting the black tezcotlipoca, but no human may touch it without fainting, and no spirit can be within its presence without being stunned by its magic, so the black tezcotlipoca was sealed away, till which the weilder of the blue tezcolipoca is found." I did my reaserch.
To newbies- keep watching this show is truly fantastic, it draws its inspiration form Aztec/Myan/Mexican mythology, folk tails from the people’s of the shoulthwest, Aesop’s fables, and the southern tails of Uncle Remus and the like. the closest thing I can compare this to is one of those anime about demons and kami wondering feudal Japan only the setting is uniquely American. 5 out of 5 stars would recommend. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I can hear the song over and over again. And I love how they represent the "rules of no evil". Speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil and do no evil. I´m flashed how deep the meaning of every single part of NO EVIL is. It´s worth to be shown on TV! THAT´S TALENT!!!

"The Bells" By Edgar Allan Poe Hm, sound very nice. But i didn't know that Mr Poe can sing, i thought he was an author... "The Bells" By Edgar Allan Poe as sung by Phil Ochs Oh
I am sooo freaking happy i stumbled across this I love it. I discovered it at like 25 but after a few episodes I was like I need to start this from beginning 😁 I loooove it and can’t wait to see the story unfold. This is the rare jems u don’t understand why people haven’t discovered it yet.
This has got to be one of my favorite episodes. 😍🥰 And I love the fact that the quality of the animation is still so amazing for every episode after this. It makes having to wait so long in between episodes so worth it. I always feel really sad though when I see corn get taken over though. He is my favorite.
This one video does such a good job at illustrating everyone's character and relationship, as well as their experience with this event and how it influences their psyche, it's nothing short of genius. Well done, Besty Lee.
I don't know what to think about this. It's... The animation is beautiful, the story was wonderfully told, it's just so outside what I'm used to. I need MORE.
So amaroq still had his tail when this happened. And Quetzalcoatl had to watch his friends be consumed by the Ick as it slowly advanced towards him. That’d traumatize anyone
I just watched the last animation you made for this and came back here. This really helps explain a lot of realationships between the characters, but it makes me wonder what all their ages are. I really like this series!
Havent watched this series in quite sometime, even though subbed and notifs are on. So i decided to start rewatching from the start. Come a long way. Still as memorable as ever
As soon as I heard the first pluck, I knew why this series reached my recommendations. I’ve been listening to this song obsessively since I found it a month or so ago!
I wonder what is the time consumption ratio of "putting ideas together" and then "drawing/ voicing/ animating and so on.." 1 to 100 maybe? Must be a real kick in the nuts not having enough time to make all ideas a reality.. Just got to hold on to our thoughts until the technology is there to create out of plain thought.
I found this series recently due to someone putting forth a patreon art request to the artist of Two Kinds and I have no regrets. I love these characters so much. The animation, art, music, and everything is just amazing. I've watched the whole series and want to see more (I would also like to know the backstory of what transpired. Granted one episode pretty much says that a bunch of brain heads decided to break the mirror thinking that something was being kept from them... this is the result of that hubris and in Brother Swan, we see where that extended hubris leads...) Betsy Lee love your work hope you continue with it further.
He’s been “”crazy”” since before this happened, actually. (And yes, before anyone mentions it, I do know I’m 7 years late, don’t lose your knickers over it.)

I just wanted to say that I love this series, the mythology you included into it and the work in the animation and characters. Thank you for being you! Thank you to the team you now have too!
Lots and lot of love and thanks
I'm 11 years too late, but this is the greatest animation paired to the wonderful Phil Ochs. I love this so much.
I live Phil ochs
The fandom is small, but there is still animations being released for this series!
Oooooh.... Okay. Yeah I was thinking that if he got Huey up there, than Huey could pull him up. That would make sense...
Every now and again I revisit this series and it just keeps getting better every time
I'd like to take a moment to stop and appreciate that this video managed to shatter the one million views milestone, quite some time ago.
I've watched this series three times in a row and this is still my favourite episode and song.
Always come back to this video after 10 years.
When everyone was scared and sad and helpless, I felt sadness, and I cried a little. When hope came through and everyone was saved, I cried a little more. How beautiful, and what a wonderful choice of music. Thank you!
Watching this again after going through the entire series is really eye-opening. Betsy, you are doing great, honey!
I remember seeing this around 2013/2014.
Now here I am 10 years later and the song and animation is still as good as before.
I just can't stop watching this! Everything is so amazing! Also as a DnD player I can't help but see this and think "THESE are bards!" Lol thank you!
@@sintanan469 out of all of the possible replies I could ever get on a super old comment, ngl, I'm happy it's this. This is the kind of reply I want
wow, this is an animation with antro animals.... and they ACTUALLY HAVE A REASON TO BE ANIMALS.
Holy Moley!!!
THREE PC's later, I finally re-discovered your amazing Channel and videos!!!
:-)
No evil has a unique aesthetic. It feels nostalgic to me, and I love it!!
I hate the fact that The Raven died but still, it's a good animation.
she is based off of the Aztec god xipe totec or lady murder and that god is a rebirth god who dies and comes back (maybe?)
Both and the "lady murder" is just a nickname as a nomenclature joke not a myth reference.
oh really?
+Gary P True. True.
well it had to save very one
I come back to this all the time cause of the song and scenery. It is amazing! 😎✨
I can't BELIEVE this music...! It's so epic, and goes so well with the animation, it's hard to think of anything to compare it to!
Corn crying makes me cry, how dare!

This is beautiful. I love the animation style and how smooth everything flows together. I can't wait for more episodes
Can't belive this is 10 years old already. I started watching your stuff right out of high school, and now my life is underway :)
Excuse my ignorance, but who is the spider? She looks important enough to be seen, but only for one video. I would love to know the story of her and how she might relate to the other characters.
She's known as Mama. She was the very first spirit, and caused all the others to be born.
She was the one that gave the staff to the raven, she appears in the prequel comics: play.google.com/store/books/details/Betsy_Lee_No_Evil_Judgment?id=HJ0SBgAAQBAJ&hl=en
"Spirit are made when shooting stars fall into mama spiders web"
She is mother spider acording to kitty, when a falling star lands in the webs of mother spider, a spirit is born, and in her webs lies a sword to cut the bonds of magic, and cut the bonds of the black tescotlepolka, but no human shall touch the sword without fainting, and no spirit may come upon it without being stunned by its magical energy.
Later on, you see the machete in her web, she'll undoubtedly play a role in the future.
I love the use of mythology and the ease with which you convey emotion and symbolism.
i love how the singing stays on point even when shit's going down!
My lord this animation had been living in my head rent free for years and I FINALLY found it!!! Thank you!!
Wait I get it now! It's called "No Evil" Because of the the part when they get their shadow amulets things. It means Speak no evil, Hear no evil and see no evil! Now I get it... But so far in the series I haven't seen that spider lady yet...
MAMA SPIDER! WHY DOES NO ONE KNOW HER! SHE IS THE FIRST EVER SPIRIT! For the love of the old man. (Its what they call god in this)
Roy Hicks op posted this 3 years ago
Wait this is 8 years old?! How did I not find this sooner when it was 2012\13? Younger me would've love this. Present day me love this projects Story, Art and when it comes in Music.
I’ve watched this over a dozen times and I still love it
Meee too
Having hit episode 35 I can say without a doubt, this is my favorite animation to ever see on youtube.
Story, voice acting, personality, music, sound fx, character design and humor is done perfectly! I also truly enjoy the animation as well.
Please keep doing what you do. Much love!
Watching this three and a half years after I first discovered Betsy Lee and I gotta say: it’s still a bop.
I have never seen someone put such clever twists to mix disparate mythologies before. I desperately love this, and I have been flogging my friends with your work all day!.
Some thing tells me that spider will be important
She. Is. The. First. Ever. SPIRIT! in one of the episode kitty says " when a shooting star lands in the webs of mama spider s spirit is born." And a sword is in her webs as well.
I’ve no clue what this is but it looks nice and it’s getting people into Phil Ochs so I approve
No matter how many times I watch this, it never gets old.
"A clamorous appealing to the mercy of the fire". WOW. That's some strong word-play there. Very evocative.
That’s the genius of Phil Ochs.
I think I've watched this like 8 times and each time I love it even more
I just started watching this with the one titles "Bunny Foo Foo" - watched 2-3 and then went back to the beginning. And now I'm in love and watching them all.
"The Bells" By Edgar Allan Poe
Hm, sound very nice. But i didn't know that Mr Poe can sing, i thought he was an author...
"The Bells" By Edgar Allan Poe as sung by Phil Ochs
Oh
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years!!!! I remember when this came out it was one of my favorite songs!
I rewatch this episode at least once a week. It is so amazing. The whole 'No Evil" series is so amazing and great. Keep up the great work Betsy!
i spent forever trying to remember what this series was called so i could show my partner and i finally found ti again!! loved this series
Found this a week ago. I cant believe I've never heard of this amazing series before.
Oh and I've watched The Raven Brought Fire many times now.
so many years later and it is still such an amazing video. I'm not sure how you made it so emotionally charged but I nearly cry every time I watch it.
CORN IS SO CUTE OMG HE LOOKS SUPER CUTE LIKE A TURRET AND A CHIBI EEEEK ////>_
IKR I LOVE CORN SO MUCHHHH
The first time I came back to rewatch this after finally understanding the _story_ of what I was watching was a transcendent experience
Jesus Christ I just got into this and I am SO hooked!!!
It's still in my homepage video recommendations.
And I still go for it, too.
And I love the fact that the quality of the animation is still so amazing for every episode after this. It makes having to wait so long in between episodes so worth it. I always feel really sad though when I see corn get taken over though. He is my favorite.
This one video does such a good job at illustrating everyone's character and relationship, as well as their experience with this event and how it influences their psyche, it's nothing short of genius. Well done, Besty Lee.
i rewatch this episode on a regular basis, and cry almost every time, its so amazing and beautiful
And this is one of only two videos in the series thus far where Kitty smiles.
I seem to end up watching this every other month or so, and it slaps every time.
Me: a Poe lover
Me: a country music lover.
Me: "Oh yes please"
this isnt country music?
Howitzer it’s folk, so pretty close. Phil was also influenced by country
@@imgonnasayitnow I feel as if there can be some overlap. And the only country I listen to is Cash, Dolly, and a couple others
Camera Kitty Phil grew up listening to Cash and was a huge fan of his :)
@@imgonnasayitnow I knew I got a familiar vibe
I'm to happy to have found this, I love Phil Ochs
Gets better each time I watch.
I remember the first time I saw this. And the feeling going through me and the shivers. Years later I still get the same reaction.
Honestly same here this show is just AHSTSYJ
I will petition RUclips for multiple like buttons on videos just so I can like this more than once.
So obsessed with this video... I only found this playlist yesterday and I've watched this specific video about a dozen times at this point.
HEAR NO EVIL SEE NO EVIL SPEAK NO EVIL
*I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.*
I don't know what to think about this. It's... The animation is beautiful, the story was wonderfully told, it's just so outside what I'm used to.
I need MORE.
I’ve watched the whole thing at least 10 times and it has just now occurred to me that Ixtilton has to sing bc he has no instrument to play
As a singer myself: we ARE the instrument.
Damn that was good. I wasn’t expecting much from the second episode in but that animation, those faces, the SONG! Amazing. All of it.
So amaroq still had his tail when this happened. And Quetzalcoatl had to watch his friends be consumed by the Ick as it slowly advanced towards him. That’d traumatize anyone
Every so often I return and watch this video and it is legendary every time
I just watched the last animation you made for this and came back here. This really helps explain a lot of realationships between the characters, but it makes me wonder what all their ages are. I really like this series!
Havent watched this series in quite sometime, even though subbed and notifs are on. So i decided to start rewatching from the start.
Come a long way. Still as memorable as ever
Help! Can't stop watching so good
As soon as I heard the first pluck, I knew why this series reached my recommendations.
*will do.
This should definitely be the official animated music video of this song...
I've watched this at least 10 times and show no signs of stopping, help me.
I think I know why Huey is so silly all the time. I think he hit his head when he fell from that rock and became a bit crazy. But he's so funny crazy.
He’s been “”crazy”” since before this happened, actually. (And yes, before anyone mentions it, I do know I’m 7 years late, don’t lose your knickers over it.)
