Dave was hella funny and brilliantly creative and kinda nuts, with a good heart that apparently just stopped this morning. We both had comic strips in the Daily Illini in the late 1980's; his, "Bob 'n' Dave," was amazing: clever, hilarious, gonzo, and unpretentiously deep. Much later, as the Duke of Uke, he made "Spider Suite" which I used in my film Seder-Masochism. His was the absolutely perfect voice of Death, and if there is an afterlife I hope he's simultaneously entertaining and scaring the pants off any souls he meets.

By that time, there had already been 9 plagues...plenty of weird to go around and to convince many Egyptians that the God of the Children of Israel made their pantheon look like a bunch of cartoon characters.
to be fair the goats blood they used was during a time when no one was aloud to kill the lamb as it was during the season of rebirth in which a god with a goat hand would come and heal if it saw goat blood it would take it as an insult.
to be fair at this time their was a goat god in eygpt in which you couldn't kill goats in the spring it was a crime as that is when that god would come to the mortal world and from our knowledge this happen in spring which would have been a death sentence to the hebrews.

How is that an r/woosh? LOL you just expected him to realize that something plenty of people say everyday without any media-inspired context is from a shitty superhero movie? With the exception of old radio programs and Dick Tracey novels and storylines, which are sadly no longer airing, Superhero movies and tv shows are all objectively terrible, anyway; because, no matter what character they are based on, the new creative team/writers will always mess up the original story. This is exactly why they shouldn't reboot characters and just leave them as they are without censoring or changing them for a "modern" audience that can't even handle when others share their opinions publicly nor when people refer to others using their rightful, birth-name instead of calling everyone pontiff vapoides maximilian rex bananahammock XVI or some other weird crap they dreamed up on the night before.

Nina does that a lot. For instance, almost none of the soundtrack of "Sita sings the Blues" was written for the movie, but it fits quite nicely.

The song used is actually about a love story between a spider(the man singing) and a moth(the woman singing). Though the way it was used here it fits so well.

The worst thing when people refuse the archaeological finding that proves the pharaohs who built the pyramids and they were no Jews in Egypt ever they documented everything there is no mention of Jews being enslaved. I love the little details in this, like at 4:55 when Death looks like he's trying to remember the word "head" and looks away in thought, being an incorporeal being with no head and all.
He’s basically got a soft heart when it comes to collecting souls. Promising there will be no pain rest easy that’s pretty much it. He’s not evil he’s just doing his job whether it’s right or not. I know Moses was not too proud of that. God made that decision, considering he also used to consider himself an Egyptian Prince.😢😢😢 While the pharaoh believed, Moses was a sorcerer bringing chaos. Apparently he did warn him this was gonna happen. Tried to tell him let my people go. Yes that’s what happens when you have a stubborn and pharaoh. Saddest part of the whole story is that Moses was like a brother to Ramses growing up together it’s real tragic I’ll say.

I never thought about this connection before, but there's a reason ancient Egyptian art always depicts things sideways.
If something was looking right at you, there was supposed to be a danger of it coming to life.
Therefore, the Angel of Death's full-face view would likely be very disturbing to any ancient Egyptian viewer, something akin to a character seeing past the fourth wall in our modern media.

I don't understand. Zeus has a crystal-clear set of definite powers such as manipulation of plasma form of matter that shapes into lighting, weather manipulation, superhuman strength, immortality and the list continues.
Why Anubis' powers are so abysmally indefinite and not apoarent to us? We haven't translated enough Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdon and New Kingdom texts yet? Because of tge fact that almost nobody is fascinated by the shining jewelry of Ancient Egyptian mythology and Ancient Egyptian language (Specifically, Old Egyptian) as I do?
I find the lack of reference/description of Anubis' powers in.. everywhere, disturbing. All I know is that Osiris is not immortal. Definitely, he can in fact "die" (Sent to afterlife) and be hurt pretty easily from other gods like Set/Seth. Isis too, can had her head chopped off. She was beheaded by Horus (*Haru) because she tried to plead him to not kill Set, his uncle. Isis was Horus'... mother.
Perhaps, he had "embalming" as power but it is lame and I can't quite wrap my head around what that could have been believed in non-scientific thinking to be.
Can we all agree that this death take the "I'm Death, straight up" death by a long shot?

You know I actually died for ten minutes as a baby to Bacterial meningitis and suddenly I came back. The whole front half of my brain became scar tissue and all the front functions my brain took those and wired them into the back half of my brain. It a damn miracle I even get to experience life at all and I'm 24 and autistic. Watching this video and hearing the words this death is saying makes complete sense to me but it is actually comforting. I don't think I fear death. My resolution while I'm still alive is to use my sacred time the best I can. The way I want. Make a little and give a little for the future. I used to want to be remembered by everyone but that's impossible lol. It would be nice to be remembered for a while in my little corner of the earth though.

I apologize if this sounds cheesy, but yesterday I had a dream that was this exact video down to the same music and your animation style, except it was a Christian's perspective of death - a soldier killed in action ascending the staircase to Heaven and collapsing into Christ's arms. That was legit the first time in years I sobbed in a dream, being a Christian myself, and I genuinely thank you for making this astounding video all these years ago for us to enjoy now.
Apologies to tell you but this whole video is part of a larger movie that is staunchly anti-Christian (although mainly mocking Judaism, Christianity is the next one) and features mocking of God, the Israelites, Moses, etc.

astonishingly good. this is the best expression of ancient Egyptian thought of life and death I've ever seen expressed, plus the Biblical frame gives it a jazzy and irreverent context that's also poignant. I think if Egyptian artists had developed the idea of animation this would be one of their favorite works.
