what a live sounding room and kit, it's thunderous, you have every lick in the song figured out, but I get the feeling that Mitch Mitchell never played it the exact same way twice.
Hey Daren, nice job! In terms of influence Mitch was right there with best. Remember Mitch cut almost all of his classic Hendrix tracks between the ages of 19 &21..such musical maturity for his age. Keep up the good work.
Very informative lesson simple & to the point. Will be doing this cover today. Thanks for the great Tips. Always loved Mitch Mitchell & his style of playing.
+Raymond Schnoor For sure! Paradiddle [I know basic], helped me learn even more about Mitch's style, I used to do them for HOURS and HOURS lol. All jazz :)
Very helpful. Mitch Mitchell has always been one of my favorite drummers.Love your kit. I am also a Ludwig man, have 2 sets, one maple shells, other is 70's vistalite.
My drum instructor here in California taught me. Saying "One-tee-tah-And-tee-tah-Two-tee-tah-And-tee-tah" is easier than saying, "One-and-uh-And-and-uh-Two-and-uh-And-and-uh", etc.
WOW, thanks for this lesson! I am a huge Mitch Mitchell fan, and I want to learn about his feel and how he made his choices, and the way you break it down, kinda mathematically, or at least speaking the counts out loud, it is REALLY informative! Many thanks!
I appreciate that, man. To be fair, I've got these drums tuned wide open and there is no special care for how the mic on the camera sounds. Having said that, lately I've been working towards more controlled, wamer, and somewhat deader sound. I myself am rather tired of loud, ringing drums.
Right, Lambo. I believe that there is a lot of myth surrounding kits of so-called top brands. The main differences between them are mainly quality of materials, hardened steel etc and little more. The sound may depend a LITTLE on the type of wood used to build them (maple, birch etc) but the sound depends mostly on how the drums are tuned. Here is something that I believe proves my point. If maple etc drums are so good and have such a wonderful sound, how come Bonham had such a fantastic sound with acrylic, or plastic drums ? LOL... AND... the drumming by Ringo in the Sgt Pepper's album, I don't think anybody can deny that the drumming there is fantastic... and yet presumably Ringo played drums in that album with a Ludwig. One final thought and I am one suspicious so-and-so... I don't believe Ringo was the drummer in Sgt Pepper. Listen to the drums in "A Day In The Life". A classic drummer played the drums in that album. Ringo does not have the intellect or ability to play that quality drumming. Not that I care who played. I love 'Sgt Pepper'... (link below) ruclips.net/video/usNsCeOV4GM/видео.html
@@hunterofliars9600 Initially Ringo played Premier. He only chose the Ludwigs because Premier didn't have the oyster wrap he coveted. It had absolutely nothing to do with sound, just aesthetics.
Thank you greatly. My guitarist surprise quizzed me to keep up with hey Joe. You helped alot to demystify the great Mitch. What's the deal of performing in front of the mirror?
Awesome tutorial, this helps a lot. I would consider putting a moongel on the snare for recording videos; the ring makes the rhythms a little unclear. Still great video!
Well actually it helps looking at the mirror while playing. My guitar teacher used to tell me to do that when I was practicing my Vibrato technique. :P
i notice that bass drum is thin, not deep i mean. not wide, i was wondering how that affects sound. as opposed to those bass drums that are 3 feet long.
Great to see drummer do care! I´m a guitarist and most times I got into a fight with the drummers, complaining about this weird/wild kind of drumming they couldn´t cope with. Some asked: where is the 1? So stupid people. What most drummers I know do like is stuff like ACDC. Just simple 4/4, dull enough for jerks. Mitchells playing is much more advanced. But find a drummer who gets it. You team up with the guitar..., you interact, you add a solo instruments part to the basic rhythm, so you got 2 solo instruments in the band: guitar + drums. Hendrix´style was just like that. Playing rhythm and putting some licks in between. Thats how they made a trio sound great. Ginger Baker was similar, but Clapton was and is too limited to cope with that style. Compare Cream live to studio: Clapton couldn´t blend the roles of the guitar, always played rhythm and lead divided, so he lost when they played live. Rory Gallagher had a similar drummer, Rod De´Ath. Gallagher was able to do it. Robin Trower could do it with Reg Isidore and Bill Lordan. Keith Moon! More recent players are Keziah Jones and Frusciante and Smith.
That's is quite a revealing comment - and I tend to agree with you about Clapton with Cream. I'm going to take a artistic licence and say Clapton really picked up alot from Duane but more probably from JJ Cale and Delaney Bramblett - after he left Cream. I'm a drummer but man, MM is another level. Obviously I try and swing but that elusive "pocket". Thanks
The triplet with the bass drum is not a "John Bonham" thing, it's straight-up Elvin Jones, who was doing it before Bonham ever picked up a pair of drum sticks. And Mitch doesn't do it with the first note of the triplet on the high tom then the sceond note on the floor tom, he does it with with the first two notes of the triplet on the snare, third note on bass, then the next two triplet notes on the high tom, third note on bass, next two triplet notes on the floor tom, third note on bass, then next two triplet notes on second floor tom, third note on bass. So he's going around the drums with that fill. The rest of the stuff Mitch does is a lot easier to just copy than it is to explain. Good effort, but it doesn't much sound like what Mitch is doing on the record.
I think his gear sounds "REAL", like you hear at the throne, and NOT like the gated, processed, CHOPPED sound on the records. I actually thought I'd mute some of the ring with cosmetic wedges (Ask your GF, boydrummers), but when you are playing alone, let it ring, let it sing, it's a wonderful thing!
Very nice! If you're a fan of psychedelic rock, you may enjoy my original music! Please visit my channel and let me know what you think. Thank you so much!
Who is that other drummer sitting abreast of you? He's good too, but i think one of you is a CopyCat!!! Mmmmmmmmm Wonder if this is how the Allman Brothers got their idea for 2 drummers?
good and straight forward drum lesson, but you should do something about your sound, drums are too boomy, ringy and cymbals very clangy, like a trash cans, hard to distinguish your notes, also bad acoustics.
It's the drumming and the bass that make Hey Joe so great.
Austin Powers well sure, but don’t leave Jimi out 👀
The way Jimi’s guitar and Mitchell’s percussion danced together shall forever intrigue and mystify me. I’m my minds eye, they made love with music
what a live sounding room and kit, it's thunderous, you have every lick in the song figured out, but I get the feeling that Mitch Mitchell never played it the exact same way twice.
Excellent breakdown. Thank you.
Nice. I'm glad he provides the mirror, because I play left-handed.
I know I am kind of randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Gordon Richard I dunno I would suggest Flixportal. just search on google after it:P -case
@Case Kendrick Thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I really appreciate it!!
@Gordon Richard you are welcome :D
LOL
Really, really top shelf lesson. Especially the dissection of the fill before the solo.
Hey Daren, nice job! In terms of influence Mitch was right there with best. Remember Mitch cut almost all of his classic Hendrix tracks between the ages of 19 &21..such musical maturity for his age. Keep up the good work.
Excellent playing and choice of kit.

Loved Mitchell, so underrated while he was with us in body.

Gary Clark me too. for me it's
1. Mitch Mitchell
2. Bill Ward
3. Ian Paice
For me it’s the same just a different order
1. Bill Ward
2. Ian Paice
3. Mitch Mitchell
Add Ginger Baker, John Bonham, Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford, Cozy Powell, Jon Hiseman, Al Foster, Dave Weckl, Bob Moses, and Buddy Rich.
Awesome. I love the drums in that song, Hey Joe. Really impressive.
the tone of your drums, sounds really good, good job Daren !

pure jazz drummer Mitch Mitchell the best drummer years 60/70
great video!!
As a bassist, I now feel I have a good conceptual grasp of Mitchell's drumming on this song. Nicely done.
Michael H I appreciate that very much, Michael. Thank you.
Man you sound good. It was fun humming Hey Joe to your drums. Your perfect.
0:48 is so instructive. Thank you
Great tutorial!!!
This one really helped me a lot!
Great lesson. I hope you and your neighbors get along, hehe. Thank you for you time.

Nice sounding kit - and solid lesson! unbelievable the trolls and complainers, man

Thank you greatly. My guitarist surprise quizzed me to keep up with hey Joe. You helped alot to demystify the great Mitch. What's the deal of performing in front of the mirror?
Do You play in a band so You can play it live I want to see your time?
Excellent! And he got his laundry done!!
Awesome tutorial, this helps a lot. I would consider putting a moongel on the snare for recording videos; the ring makes the rhythms a little unclear. Still great video!
This demonstrates what a great drummer Mitch really was. Excellent match for Jimi. And what he was like 19 when Hey Joe was cut?! Unreal!
Daren, nice job man! Have you given any thought to trying a Zoom Q3? They work great for recording. Keep up the great work.
I don't get it? At 3:46 how can You mention John Bonham, when Mitchell clearly was doing these triplets before Bonham?
You need more mirrors so you can constantly be looking at yourself haha
+Dave Wray ha ha ha
Well actually it helps looking at the mirror while playing. My guitar teacher used to tell me to do that when I was practicing my Vibrato technique. :P
Never enough mirrors my dude
Great video . Btw what is the wrap on your drums called ? :)
STUCATZOMARINE green sparkle.
Hi, do You know what kind of foot technique used Mitch?
Hey bro, can you tell me how you tuned your kick and snare? Thanks
Just curious on who taught you how to count triplets like that its very bizarre ive never heard that variation... ?
Merci cool
From where do you have the notes?
Your snare is still moving ten years after
Ye ha. Absolut awesome!!!
i notice that bass drum is thin, not deep i mean. not wide, i was wondering how that affects sound. as opposed to those bass drums that are 3 feet long.
02:48 he was thinking "how awesome I am"

oooh that set sounds fat boy !! nice ring on that snare make it beter with some nice Paiste sigs
Hey brother nice video and drumming. That main fill before the solo is wrong tho, slow the song down and listen to it.
NICE LESSON , I HATE HIS NOISY CYMBALS
Your snare is out of balance!
it sounds beautiful
It's perfect...for a Bonham tutorial. But it still sounds killer here.
Who is that other drummer sitting abreast of you? He's good too, but i think one of you is a CopyCat!!! Mmmmmmmmm Wonder if this is how the Allman Brothers got their idea for 2 drummers?
not Bad but not quiet there with the notes and feel. Sorry
Hey Darren, tune those drums boy. Your mounted tom is higher than your snare.
Nice demonstration..audio is unbearable tho
Russell Burton it’s a fair cop
OMG that made my ears bleed you carnt.
YOU TRIGGERED ? Oh yes I carn

What a load of bollocks
