    Lots of times the freeze frame will store the first code to pop, that will tell you the code they have been driving around for some time. Some newer cars also stamp the milage when it happeneds. BTW my hat is off to you for taking on a Porsche at your house, I work with guys that wont even touch those cars. Great vid man.

      I will have to check out the freeze frame data and see! Thanks.

    BBB industries is a great site. I've had pretty good luck finding what I need as well. Solid troubleshooting Tom. That was nice of the Germans to provide a cover over the pump...easy access. Good call based on good detective work, nice job.

    Glad I found your channel , I have exact car, lucky me :(
    I see you have a few vids on cayenne and I'm sure I will be using your knowledge at some point ... Right now , I got bearing to replace that Porsche wanted 1200 to fix 😥... Yeah (no thank you), I went to bone yard to get used hub for $50 .. Now just got to install it... Yuck ...thanks for your videos !!!!

      I am sorry you have that car, no one deserves that! Porsche wants crazy prices for the parts. Many VW Touareg parts will interchange, but not all. It hasn't come back to me in a while, so I guess it must still be running ok.

      Only a few body components interchange, engine, transmission and overall build quality is considerable better with the Cayenne.

    I have a 97 silverado 5.7 and my catalytic convertor is clogged. My son was driving the truck and it cutoff on him. We towed it home and it had check engine light on. I hooked up my scanner and it had ckp correlation code. I was able to start the truck and it would run for a few minutes until it would warm up. It was spitting and sputtering and popping. Just sounded horrible. I had already suspected catalytic convertor because after I had exhaust installed there was a sound like popcorn. I thought at first it was rocks in bell housing. Come to find out it was the converter. My son took a rubber mallet and tapped the cat and sure enough that's where the noise was coming from. So I can only assume the honey comb broke up and him driving the truck around it melted and clogged the exhaust. I'm not sure what made it throw the ckp code unless from it not starting and rough running maybe? Idk. Great video though!

      Guess would be the exaust valve were having a bit of delayed closure from the back pressure and it was butting some stress on the camshaft and it was just enough to trip the Cam/Crank Corelation.
      The camshaft position sensor on this Porsche is not an uncommon failure on these. I would say that sensor is flaking out once in a while or it may have a timing chain that has stretched a little. At 250K miles the owner probably isn't going to worry about it as long as it runs OK.

    Hi I've got Porsche Cayenne turbo 2012 3.0 diesel I left headlights on come back to car 3 days after being in unit... I tried starting the car but it wouldn't start as battery was low so I've put jump leads on and car cranks but don't start so I've tried boost pack jumped the car, it started but immediately cuts off do you know why this is happening I'm so confused in what's gone wrong and I'm stuck I've paid a lot of money for this car to stop the engine from staying on and working....
    Can you help?

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  3 года назад +1

      Porsches (And Volkswagens) are really weird about running and starting with low voltages. You get low voltage codes in the modules and different ones will shut down. I would remove the battery and go get it fully tested/charged at an Autozone, or try putting a charger on it it and letting it charge for a while. When you do get it fully charged remove the battery terminal for a few minutes and re-hook it up so that everything wakes up at once and sees good voltage.

    Simple, 30 seconds in... Its your cam position sensors that I'm certain of. (edit I replaced both of mine after showing an intermittent issue on bank 1).

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  5 лет назад +2

      iVlogBuzz no it was the fuel pump. It has a cam sensor code for the passenger side, but it wasn't the cause of this problem and the customer elected not to replace it.

      Interesting and I appreciate the feedback, I'd definitely have had them done as it made a massive difference to the power and engine sound for me... Really enjoyed your video too. Anybody reading this should know also to drain the bulkhead as that can also cause numerous problems with the Cayenne.

    What was the star bit size you used to remove the back seat bracket bolts?

      @frugalprepper  3 года назад +1

      It's not a start bit, it's a Tripple Square. I am not sure what the size was.

      We have just had one super hot day after another here. Humid and in the 90's as soon as it cools down a little I am going ot get it pushed back out of the garage and get it done. I also have a new job now that's going to give me a lot more time because it give me back 2hours of commute time every day. Thanks!

    I avoid working on Porsche products. Not so much because they're difficult but the parts cost so much and they are so time consuming that the customer diesn't think they're getting enough of a deal over what they would get at a Porsche specific shop. I stay away from most newer VW's for the same reason. Yet Mercedes parts aren't terribly expensive and aren't too tough to work on either. meh... I dunno... I just wanna work on 79' Chevettes all day.

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  6 лет назад

      I hate BMW and Mercedes, but I don't mind VW. This is the first Porsche I have ever worked on. The things got 250K miles and its and 04 with no major issues before, so it can't be too bad, but yes all the parts are special order and hard to come by. The cam sensor for that thing is $90 for a a cheap e-Bay aftermarket one! I'd take a GM any day over a Porsche.

    my 04 cayenne, runs for 5min then starts to run rough and jerks, i put my foot on the brake then it stalls, no code showing

    • @frugalprepper
      @frugalprepper  4 года назад +1

      I would start by looking at the fuel trims to see if they are high. I might suspect a vacuum leak in the brake booster if it dies when hitting brakes. You could wait till it starts running rough and then block of the vacuum to the booster and see if it straitens out. It's just a guess without seeing it in person and looking at it though.
