I honestly can’t believe these videos are for free😳😳 I don’t even bother looking at my notes anymore because ninja nerd covers topics so well and in such an interesting manner that I forget that I’m even watching a study related video. I can’t emphasise enough how important ninja nerd has become to me as a study tool. I will forever be grateful to this channel until I die 😭💕

It really is SO helpful! I have a teacher that expects a lot, and she really is a good teacher, BUT she goes quite fast and sometimes you need to hear the same thing a few times before you get a good grasp on the subject and I can't expect her to do that, so I really do appreciate the Ninja Nerd team.

I just started watching your videos the last couple months, I found them, I am a nursing student. I saw a video of you talking about why you do this and create these, to give back and to do it for those who can't afford the paid ones. I will tell you, I am one of those who can't afford much of anything as nursing school is expensive, and I appreciate that you give so much material in your videos for someone like me who is learning. At my nursing school and with COVID it has changed and we basically teach ourselves, I searched for free resources. I came to RUclips and that is how I came across your videos. I absolutely love them and you are so detailed. I just want to say thank you for doing this for those of us who can't afford the fees for some of these online lessons we come across where they charge. You are very kind and I hope it comes back around to you because your special.

Q: Explain why a patient with renal failure and a serum [K+] of 8mM might have
reduced conduction velocity in the ventricle?
    -------
A: The normal range of potassium is 3.5mM - 5mM, thus this person has
severe hyperkalemia and has the fatal risk of the heart stopping.
A higher extracellular membrane potential will cause a higher starting baseline of the ventricular action potential. As sodium ion channels are either open, inactivated (-80mV or -70mV) or closed, in a cyclic way for every sodium channel in the ventricles. The inactivation-to-closing stage of the cycle
requires the resting membrane potential to be at the right level, hence a
higher extracellular potassium level will affect this and reduce the conduction
rates. The rapid upward depolarisation will also be reduced, thus the force of
ventricular contraction will also be lowered.
At this high a level, the potassium inactivates sodium channels, and
opens potassium channels leading to the cells becoming refractory. This leads
to the impairment of neuromuscular, cardiac and GI systems. Most crucially,
this can cause problems with cardiac conduction and cause ventricular fibrillation, abnormally slow heart rhythms or asystole.
