What you want is buy the action shirt and wear it under a Barbour or Belstaff trailmaster and remove all the armour in those. That way your protected and have something comfy on and off the bike 👍🏻
Similar to the Knox Action Shirt Mk2 but slightly less expensive are the Icon Field Compression Shirt and Pant (using thin and flat segmented D30 with kevlar cover). Though the Icon shirt needs to be worn under a shirt as it is not as presentable as the Knox on its own but it does allow maximum airflow in California summers. The Icon pant can be worn underneath any non-motorcycle pants. Thanks @yodomcat for putting out great content!
Would be interesting to see what flows more air as the urbane for me is like wearing a t-shirt, but if you’re somewhere where you need cooling vests I’m not sure if they work so well with this.
@@yodomcat It might be a wash actually. The Icon shirt is principally see-through mesh except for the D30/kevlar patches which can be quite "techy"/motocross looking hence my preference to layer over it with a normal shirt or jumper or jacket, or in my case, a more classic 1960s vibe long sleeve mesh motocross shirt. But, living close to Venice Beach, a see-through mesh shirt might not be so out of place. 😆
Great vlog .. can I ask what do you recommend to wear under the urbane or action. You have covered what to wear over them but not underneath. Thanks for you advice 👍
Just a base layer in hot weather (makes getting on easy and off), but if going somewhere where on off the bike then a t-shirt. If cooler then a hoodie over the top 👍🏻
I see that Knox molded armor is superior. I gotta give it to them... Brilliant! We have a company here called Bohn Armor CE level 2 Jerseys, pants Regular, Winter, and Summer versions.Top-notch gear.
I know my timing sucks! The MK3 urban pro is only getting the thinner (micro lock) armour the materials are staying the same so I think a minor evolution for comfort, but I’ll test non the less 👍🏻 Now that tracksuit! That’s amazing!
When on your body they don’t feel heavy at all (but will off the peg as full length armour). The action feels more comfort than the urban because of the materials used, but that’s also why one is A and the other is AA.
Thanks for the clarification! Would the urbane3 hold up off road with a small hydration backpack on it? I do wish the armpit was thicker. More protection more better!
They pitch the utility more for off-road as you have some pockets. Aaron the MD from Knox looks like he does a fair bit of off-roading and I wouldn’t bet against the top first being designed for OR then they beefed it up enough for road use 👍🏻
I have the Mk 1 urban pro,,, and I just picked up a Knox Zefiper mesh vest which was the forerunner of the urban pro you are showing ... I do,nt rate knox jackets (I have two or gloves) I also have a pair of trooper underpants,,,they are bloody uncomfy in hot weather,,, so looking for something else ,, lastly I would think about getting the chest protector,,keeps you toasty as much as anything!!!!!
They both do the same job (if we’re comparing the Urbane here). Revit is styled nicer, but from a metre away that doesn’t count for much. Comfort is similar. I’ve not rode with the revit so can’t say about flow but would say they’re on par. Price is cheaper for the Knox. I’d still go Knox if it was my choice, but if you’re wearing stand alone (and have a good body) Pando do a combat version that comes with some webbing that looks quite good.
Wow brilliant video you answered all the things I've been wondering about thankyou. what is the sizing like? There are no Knox products forsale here in NZ. I'm 5 ft 9 76kg 40 inch chest, i was thinking probably Med. Want to get the fit right, probably buy one from Urban Rider so the freight cost is high if I had to send back. cheers for the Video bloody brilliant mate
I work on an average, for me AA is a bit of motorway and then twisty so realistically probability of a crash is 50mph. I like how Knox are trying to split the A, AA and AAA into performance bands.
I'm 1.93m and 76kg and tried on both the Knox Urane Pro mk 3 and the Knox Action mk2 in size medium. Snug in the body but the arms were too short. Went up to size large and roomier in the body but the arms were practically the same short length. What gives Knox? Love the concept of these shirts but the sizing is ridiculous. Maybe the mk 4 will be better...
Not sure if you have especially long arms as for me and all in my crew the @Knox has been a great fit; maybe even a little over (only just) in the arms. Rev’IT is very good for long arms if you haven’t tried already (they also do an undershirt) 👍🏻
I recently found Knox and their urane pro mk2. This video cements everything i thought when i tried it on. I think i may have out grown the shoulders on the size i have so got to save the pennies for a size up i think.
I ordered an Urban Pro Mk2 but had to send it back because it was cutting my arms off at the armpit! I'm not that big but I've never had any jacket/shirt do that before. Any ideas what the difference is in 'arm hole' size on the Mk3? I loved the feel and features of the Mk2 but just couldn't put up with it cutting my arms off! Now I'm on the other side of the world it's difficult to return. About 70 pounds each way!
@@yodomcat Luckily, I didn't have any problem with the rest of the fit. Just the size of the arm holes. Because your Mk2 and Mk3 are different sizes you can't compare the arm hole sizes. Never mind. Keep up with the great unbiased reviews 👍
Hi, what is your thoughts on the URBANE PRO MK3? I want something that I can ware with as casual clothing as possible over. Ideally Knox Action with AAA (but don't want to wait 10 years). I have a Dainese Air Frame D1, but it doesn't work with a hoodie over it really. would the URBANE PRO MK3 be a good fit for this, or the action with a A or AA rated jacket with Armor out
Thinking of picking up the urbane pro MK2 now that prices have dropped. Do you think it's suitable for wearing underneath jackets/baggy hoodies, or would the action be better suited? I'm leaning toward Urbane Pro for the versatility of being a stand-alone jacket but also the extra abrasion resistance
The action is more suitable for under jackets. But under hoodies I’d go urban for the flexibility. The mark3 is slimmer but still not as good as the actionS
In very cold I use the action as it allows me to layer up easier. Still not tested the season less jacket but I use a wind proof revit number that does well.
Touring - base layer/Urbane/gortex cycling rain jacket. Usually enough, but at the top of mountain passes I've gone Urbane/light down jacket/gortex cycling jacket. I take a packable heated jacket but haven't needed it to date.
Great vid! I went for the action pro top and bottoms, the top is fantastic for around town and until they release the microlock compack urbane pro - the armour is much better fitting on the action. However, I gotta say they NEED to make the zip a bit less bulky. I know it's for a gloved hand but it rubs a quite a bit... The bottoms I found to just fall down way too much.
@@yodomcat I've seen the trackies yeah. I gotta say though they are fugly. I really dislike almost all biker gear that pretends not to be biker gear, (urbane and action notwithstanding - it looks like biker gear in a subtle way) and that tracksuit is exhibit A (or AAA?). I really love the way that the gorpy gore-tex stuff, AND leather jackets look. It's honest as to what it is. The knox gear gives great versatility though and i consider it essential.
It’s so great, hoodie is normally enough for the evenings. I’ll invest in the Knox base layers this season and put them through the paces. Normally don’t bother in warmer weather but did get stuck on one sweaty day!
I had the urban pro shirt and sold it. Find Knox too quality but sizing is a bit weird and the armour ironically I don't find as good as D30 which IMO is easily the best. Have you tried the leggings reinforced yet? I am considering these as they are much cheaper than pando or bowtech
Not tried the leggings as always happy with the jeans. See I’m the other way much prefer Knox to D3O especially stored in the cold garage, I find it warms quicker and stays in shape.
So you have lots of kit you don't use anymore😂. Very tempted with the knox kit. Really not happy with the recent alpinstars Halo jacket I bought which is supposed to be super vented and with removable outer sleeves. It's so uncomfortable and heavy. Reckon the knox urban pro along with my old rst jacket would be better.
The urban pro can’t be beat for protection and ventilation in hot weather. It flows so well. Then if your cold layer up, but if you layer up with motorcycle A stuff (like a a rated hoodie) you’re beefing the slide because armour wise this is as good you’ll get before going airbag.
I’m 5’10” 182lbs 44 inch chest with a 33” waist and I have a XL to allow a little room around the belly. I do fit a large which I should be as under armour but I like the space as o use the action for under armour and the urbane on its own or with a hoodie over. So I would say both will be right, depends how flat your belly is 😂
No, it’s to be worn tight and not enough stretch. But because it is tight you can wear the bag over the jacket. Or more suitable will the vest, both a-stars and Dainese have one 👍🏻
These seem to be more suited for the slim handsome individual... Is there something for us more on the rotund side of things who are not so blessed in the looks department?
Unfortunately armour has to sit tight so it doesn’t move. But for the larger rider I say this is better. Get the embarrassing tight fit, but then you can throw whatever you want over the drop. Jumper, baggy t-shirt, etc.
I bought Urbane Pro MK3 for my electric scooter. I also tested Action shirt but it seems not enough protection and also worse quality overall. Same price almost.
@@yodomcat I know. But the action seems better idea on electric scooter that goes up to 60km/h. On the other hand Urbane Pro mk 3 is soo good looking :>
@@Wodagazowana5000 I prefer the feel of the action and because it is so comfortable would often wear it under something, the urbane however I wear on its own.
Am almost blinded, I slide the brightness all the way up and still can't tell wither or not the action shirt you wearing has a front zip. Please consider lighting
It does have a zip. All versions do. Unfortunately my budget is limited to zero 😢 so unless someone can sponsor me my iPhone in the extension is the best I can do 👍🏻😂
I have had an Urbane 2 for a while. I cannot stand the way it feels against my skin. It feels like it is made of hay. And I can always feel it when it is on. There is never a point where it stops feeling uncomfortable. I'm glad some people like it. But it is in my top two pieces of gear I wish I had never bought.
I know the feeling you’re describing. For me that goes away a couple of min after having on. Have you tried a base layer? Knox base layer is multi season and very comfy. But Oxford also do a £20 number, try that with it before you give up.
You are using the d3o ghost the wrong way around though. It actually fits better if you put it in the right way round (very easy to think the orange should be the outer part, but it is actually the black mesh that is meant to aid in abrasion as well). Great and informative review nonetheless, thanks!
I own the Urban pro 2 shirt and it’s been excellent (made in India). I bought the Urban Pro trousers (made with n China) and the quality wasn’t there at all the two garments were made of different materials and fabrics. I had two pairs and the crotch stitches failed after a couple hours of riding. Knox refunded me without any problems.
I agree with most of your statements but saying that the Urbane Pro is the best mesh jacket on the market is just wrong. There are plenty of adventure jackets such the Klim Induction, Klim Marakesh, Rukka Stretchair, etc. that are superior to this one. I have owned the Knox Urbane Pro jacket and now I wear Rukka instead. Much better comfort and protection. Also the Knox layering system is wrong. You want to put a windbreaker underneath your jacket to stay as warm as possible in winter and have space inside the jacket to have good air flow in summer.
For me it is the best mesh jacket for street riding due to the dual purpose of also being an under armour. If comparing as a sole jacket then really the Knox Hollistor Jacket should be the comparison. The Hollister has a better safety rating and half the price of the Rukka and Klim options. But it’s all personal preference at the end of the day. On the layering system I often use a windbreaker underneath like you say - it’s my emergency backup under my seat and has save me on many occasion where the weather has turned! On colder days however it’s not man enough, and I would opt for a mid or outer layer that has wind proof properties.
@@yodomcat Yes, I would say that Knox jackets are good for short rides in urban areas, but not suitable for multi-day trips in Southern Europe for example. You would sweat too much on the back and get cold when the temperatures get lower.
Just wanna make some points. The MPH figures you're giving aren't quite accurate. CE has dropped those figures since due to it not painting the full picture. When they test any motorcycle abrasion product, they test it at one spot at a time at a certain pressure at a certain grit. In the real world that's usually not the case. You're usually not sliding on one specific spot as you're dispersing force throughout your whole body. So ratings for 3s at 30mph is inaccurate unless you slide on just your elbow with the force of your whole body for example. Even then, if you're sliding on a spot with armor, that now increases your slide time and if you're on underdeveloped roads it may decrease it.
It is such a confusing and minefield subject. Which no one can truly answer as not all crashes are the same. For me: A = 30mph and below average speeds AA = 50mph average with some blips AAA = Better than AA, but still not a race suit. LEATHER RACE SUIT (AA or AAA - as some only get AA as the material used in a place you will never slide isn’t high enough) for when you want to push it and see higher speeds. The biggest issue I see is when people wear more protective gear and feel they’re invincible; anyone coming to an abrupt stop from 100mph should put more faith in religion than CE ratings as your life is in the hands of the gods.
@@yodomcat personally, I prefer to tell people CE A = city riding no highways CE AA = urban riding with highway CE AAA touring Race leathers lol Also I agree. All this gear is mitigation. Our # one protection is building our skills and driving defensively
I find the Urbane too tight around the neck and arms, I wish they made proper adventure suits and not the sort of clothing you wear on your Sunday morning trip to a coffee shop. To me they seem more interested in looking like fashion clothing over function. I agree with you over the latest ghost armour though, there’s no shape to the stuff. Try the Klim Marrakesh, far more comfortable but floppy ghost armour.😕
I’d say you need to size up, I had an urbane pinch a little under my arms (fitted everywhere else great) but sizing up was great, still tight to keep the armour where it’s needed. On the adventure suit; I hear you, remember they are an armour company. A small sideline pivot into gloves a while ago then clothes only came with the studio collection (and that was a small line up). I think they’re doing it just right; any more and they’ll have to grow the business too much. What I’ve seen with Knox is they find one or two products and then develop the hell out of them. It’s why the urbane is now Mk3 👍🏻
At the moment it would be one of the cheapest and most protective/comfortable CE rated garment you buy. On the contrary this can save you layers if you plan it right. 👍🏻
Can’t speak for the ladies stuff but very happy with the blokes fit. Rubbish pockets; but if you want pockets they have the Urbane Pro Utility that has loads of pockets 👍🏻
Comfort. I have a AAA rated race suit, but will I wear it in +30° heat? I find with bike gear comfort over safety is a worthy compromise - provided you trust the gear you’re wearing and Knox is proven.
@@yodomcat knox has the honister, and i dont see how its that uncomfortable considering how much people praise it there are also plenty of aaa rated jeans and the like which pose 0 problems in the comfort department

Perfect chance for a follow up and comparison with the Mk3 coming in May.
I know my timing sucks! The MK3 urban pro is only getting the thinner (micro lock) armour the materials are staying the same so I think a minor evolution for comfort, but I’ll test non the less 👍🏻
Now that tracksuit! That’s amazing!
hi buddy, thanks to share, im looking on knox. you know what is the weight of both urban and action?
When on your body they don’t feel heavy at all (but will off the peg as full length armour). The action feels more comfort than the urban because of the materials used, but that’s also why one is A and the other is AA.
Nice one, thanks
Thanks for the clarification! Would the urbane3 hold up off road with a small hydration backpack on it? I do wish the armpit was thicker. More protection more better!
They pitch the utility more for off-road as you have some pockets. Aaron the MD from Knox looks like he does a fair bit of off-roading and I wouldn’t bet against the top first being designed for OR then they beefed it up enough for road use 👍🏻
I have the Mk 1 urban pro,,, and I just picked up a Knox Zefiper mesh vest which was the forerunner of the urban pro you are showing ... I do,nt rate knox jackets (I have two or gloves) I also have a pair of trooper underpants,,,they are bloody uncomfy in hot weather,,, so looking for something else ,, lastly I would think about getting the chest protector,,keeps you toasty as much as anything!!!!!
how would you compare them both to Revit Nucleus if you have a view?
Thanks mate 🙏🏻 order that you’d normally order a jumper in. Though I size up so a little looser as not got the stomach a tight fit! 😹
Would you pick A* GP plus R Rideknit for summer (25-35 C, hot and humid) or Knox Honister? For city (with highways) and short touring (300-400 km)
I have reviewed the ridenit and I would choose this up to 30°C but really 25° and over, if I’m not hooning then the Knox always wins out.
so do you also wear a t-shirt underneath the action mk2 shirt?
Yes, with both the action and urbane. But remember the urbane is practically see the through when picking your colours 🙈😂
Hey, to be fair about it - I believe AA is 70km/h (44miles/h), not 70miles/h. For the highway you probably need AAA.
If you only could get one, which one would you get? I'm on a budget and don't know which one is best for every type a weather.
Urbane pro for sure.
I recently found Knox and their urane pro mk2. This video cements everything i thought when i tried it on. I think i may have out grown the shoulders on the size i have so got to save the pennies for a size up i think.
No better time with the MK3 making an appearance in summer 👍🏻
I ordered an Urban Pro Mk2 but had to send it back because it was cutting my arms off at the armpit! I'm not that big but I've never had any jacket/shirt do that before.
Any ideas what the difference is in 'arm hole' size on the Mk3?
I loved the feel and features of the Mk2 but just couldn't put up with it cutting my arms off!
Now I'm on the other side of the world it's difficult to return. About 70 pounds each way!
I had this with my last Urbane MK2. I went up a size (as I wanted space around the gut anyway) and that solved it for me. 👍🏻
I have a Dainese Air Frame D1, but it doesn't work with a hoodie over it really. would the URBANE PRO MK3 be a good fit for this, or the action with a A or AA rated jacket with Armor out
It’s slimmer but still not the action shirt slim. But if you wear baggy clothes over top it won’t matter.
what kind of bird is that flying around in your yard? Oh- great video BTW thanks for taking the time for explaining the knox system
Get quite a few, even have a woodpecker and a fan tailed pigeon!
I found the urbane isn't ideal in VERY cold weather where you layer up as much as possible - is anyone in the same boat?
In very cold I use the action as it allows me to layer up easier. Still not tested the season less jacket but I use a wind proof revit number that does well.
Touring - base layer/Urbane/gortex cycling rain jacket. Usually enough, but at the top of mountain passes I've gone Urbane/light down jacket/gortex cycling jacket. I take a packable heated jacket but haven't needed it to date.
1:37 thats knee armour not shoulder armour. I know D30 has weird sizes. Iv always been with D30 they have the best protection in my opinion.
Most of the time knee armour is elbow armour and shoulder is hip.
I like the zip because of gloves. Have you seen the new AAA tracksuit coming summer? Might be a better option for you?
@@yodomcat I've seen the trackies yeah. I gotta say though they are fugly. I really dislike almost all biker gear that pretends not to be biker gear, (urbane and action notwithstanding - it looks like biker gear in a subtle way) and that tracksuit is exhibit A (or AAA?). I really love the way that the gorpy gore-tex stuff, AND leather jackets look. It's honest as to what it is. The knox gear gives great versatility though and i consider it essential.
I will have a look at the website. But I think there will be no size that’ll fit me at 6,9’ / 320 lbs! 🫣
Reach out them on email, you never know!
I have the urbane shirt great on hot days and just throw a jacket over in the cooler weather 👍🏻
6'4" 200lbs. and 44 inch chest. Should I go with the XL or the XXL Urbane Pro?
I’m 5’10” 182lbs 44 inch chest with a 33” waist and I have a XL to allow a little room around the belly. I do fit a large which I should be as under armour but I like the space as o use the action for under armour and the urbane on its own or with a hoodie over. So I would say both will be right, depends how flat your belly is 😂
@@yodomcat That helps. I really appreciate the reply!
I wonder , you think a airtech 5 alpinestars airbag will work with urbane? Is there any stretch on the material?
No, it’s to be worn tight and not enough stretch. But because it is tight you can wear the bag over the jacket. Or more suitable will the vest, both a-stars and Dainese have one 👍🏻
@@yodomcat What a shame though! :(
@@AlbertVicol you can wear the ones that go over though 👍🏻
Thank you 🙏.
The action is only A rated with the urbane AA. Quality is fantastic Knox 💪🏻
Most importantly did anybody notice the squirrel running at the back on the top of the fence. Sorry my adhd is always playing up
Haha proper squirrel wars 😂
That’s a pretty cool bird in your backyard
My Mrs will be pleased 😁
@@yodomcat ? is it your guys’ bird?
Am almost blinded, I slide the brightness all the way up and still can't tell wither or not the action shirt you wearing has a front zip. Please consider lighting
It does have a zip. All versions do.
Unfortunately my budget is limited to zero 😢 so unless someone can sponsor me my iPhone in the extension is the best I can do 👍🏻😂
For the same price shouldn't i just get an airbag vest?
Airbag vest would be £500 and you would still need an abrasion jacket over the top. You can’t solely run an airbag vest.
Couple them with Roadskin jeans best gear on market
Haven't tried the Roadskin jeans, but do hear good things 👍
@@yodomcat brilliant mate get a pair
They also make the best gloves on the market, great gear…
Very true!
I love my short summer Knox gloves ❤
@@david.5457 the OR3 for when the weather gets above 25° are a godsend! I am a L in all Knox gloves, but was a 2XL in the OR3 for some reason 🤷🏻♂️
@@yodomcat I will give that a shot.
You are using the d3o ghost the wrong way around though. It actually fits better if you put it in the right way round (very easy to think the orange should be the outer part, but it is actually the black mesh that is meant to aid in abrasion as well). Great and informative review nonetheless, thanks!
That’s interesting I’ve had clothes supplied with the ghost black side to skin. I’ll swap it round next time I get something with it in 👍🏻
I own the Urban pro 2 shirt and it’s been excellent (made in India). I bought the Urban Pro trousers (made with n China) and the quality wasn’t there at all the two garments were made of different materials and fabrics. I had two pairs and the crotch stitches failed after a couple hours of riding. Knox refunded me without any problems.
Great idea. Not for us boys with a beer belly I think
It still works great! …but if your conscious then a hoodie is key! Ride with the hoodie half zipped so you get loads of airflow 👍🏻
@@yodomcat tried one yesterday and you’re right, the hoodie is the answer.
And the hips, l sack an knees????
If your goin to do the top???
❤❤❤
For me:
A = 30mph and below average speeds
AA = 50mph average with some blips
AAA = Better than AA, but still not a race suit.
@@yodomcat personally, I prefer to tell people
CE A = city riding no highways
CE AA = urban riding with highway
CE AAA touring
Race leathers lol
Also I agree. All this gear is mitigation. Our # one protection is building our skills and driving defensively
👍🙏👌
They REALLY need to make pants in a silver or white instead of black... Black is NOT a winner in Houston, TX.
Two expensive?? To many layers??
At the moment it would be one of the cheapest and most protective/comfortable CE rated garment you buy. On the contrary this can save you layers if you plan it right. 👍🏻
If Knox is so great, why are you wearing an Alpinestar shirt for this video?! ;P
To be fair Knox need to up their t-shirt game 😉
They need to do better with woman's jackets. Tiny pockets and no expandable zippers. It stinks.
Can’t speak for the ladies stuff but very happy with the blokes fit. Rubbish pockets; but if you want pockets they have the Urbane Pro Utility that has loads of pockets 👍🏻
i dont see why you would get anything below aaa rated
Comfort. I have a AAA rated race suit, but will I wear it in +30° heat? I find with bike gear comfort over safety is a worthy compromise - provided you trust the gear you’re wearing and Knox is proven.
@@yodomcat knox has the honister, and i dont see how its that uncomfortable considering how much people praise it
there are also plenty of aaa rated jeans and the like which pose 0 problems in the comfort department
@@notnem3883 the honister is thicker, more jacket like (still great), but the urbane pro; man that just feels like a t-shirt.
I found the Knox shield AAA jeans so much better than others due to the armour coverage. I find with a lot of others the armour is not in the right place or too small.
