I had aphasia from brain injury. I worry I will get dementia. I don't generally tell internet about it.
I lost my ability to talk, read, write, recall names (names of people I still forget), math and I forget what else. Couldn't drive 🥺
They said it was permanent. I had some hospital therapy. Nintendo wii Big Brain Academy, reading, writing, math, spelling.
I still can't spell well with using Google voice. I can put out thoughts better than read context, back if it's a lot of context.
I would go to therapy. They gave homework. I gave homework back and say "I need more of this"
The girl gave me funny look.
Later she told me that never did anyone come back and ask for more of this. Usually they didn't even do homework as they were incapable.
Three months was covered under medical care. They could not help me, as far as I needed to go. It was limited. She changed all they help she could give me, to my situation.
Getting more help after hospital, was way too expensive so I am stuck at this level. if I had more levels?
At least now I can have much more of a life because of this speech therapist doing all she could in her limited ability and time she was given. But I can't work.
I still worry about getting dementia.. will I get it? Who knows. Hope not.
At least I can drive now 🚗
And getting info. verbally is difficult so if you see a Dr. ... Gawd I wish they would write stuff down. Even key words.
You did write down info., so I will look up what you have said, in what applies to me.
After 25 yrs working, and way more to go, you are left with nothing to live your life and survive.
Thank you for the info. you gave. ❤

Sadly seems at times medical systems in most countries’ health care systems was/isn’t designed to benefit all. TBF maybe exceptions. Resources are avail if you can access thru good private insurance and or self pay. You sound like a strong person and tuned into your body and what works for you. Keep researching and I know you’ll find a way. xx

I'm very sorry for your situation. It has been my experience that physicians, therapists, physical therapists, and other medical professionals are extremely limited in how they can help people. Insurance is one of the biggest scams going in the US. Other countries don't have this medical scam business, so you may want to try your luck in another country to see if you can get better treatment/care. b
Americans think that the US has the best medical system, but I've often had better medical care in the UK and better dentistry in Mexico (and I've lived in Manhattan, Los Angeles, San Francisco which all have advanced health care in the US compared to smaller cities).
Keep fighting to regain your full neurological function. No physician is going to care about you regaining your full function the way you will care.
I fully agree that it is almost impossible to live life and survive when you cannot work. This is one of the reasons why our homeless population in the US is so enormous. Many of them suffer from PTSD, had to declare medical bankruptcy, and are living in their cars/vans/RVs because of this. Those who had issues in early childhood with PTSD are the once who use alcohol and drugs because early childhood (before age 8) is what causes the underlying personality disorders.
I discovered how inept many of our physicians and specialists were back in my mid 20s and it was that experience that taught me that I am the person who will have to take full responsibility for my healthy and well-being because most physicians do not have the depth of knowledge to address complex cases (and especially those people who are now suffering with long CoVid).

My brother has been on Xanax®™ for the better part of a decade and an half and he takes 2mg nars at a time. I think he's been taking two or three 2mg bars per diem and now has early onset dementia. I feel for him and it's socially isolating for him because he thinks people are gossiping about him behind his back and they probably are as a result of his unruly social behavior as of late. I pray he gets a lucid moment before he dies. I love him !

Unfortunately, patients with dementia are cranky with their care givers because they see you every day and they don't know who you are but they do know they see you every day and never know who you are. I think dying is a new beginning; not an end of life and they'll get it back on the other side.

Dr. Kaveh, you're not losing your marbles. Trust me. Karma was bound to eat Mando's food and your sandwich! She had it planned before you even knew it! 😂 It's bound to happen when you have pets who eat different foods. Karma, Mochi and Mando are lucky to have you as their human! Thank you for sharing them with us! ❤
I have 2 dogs and 6 cats (not 100% willingly, but when the cats were feral, I caught my old neighbor shooting BBs at them). My oldest dog is 16 years old and she has taught me so much. Although, now she suffers from degenerative myelopathy and liver problems. So, she may actually be increasing my risk of heart attack and/or stroke! She is definitely the best Pit Bull, ever! Of course, there's some bias in that statement. Also, one of my cats is a door dasher. He got out last month and came home with a piece of him missing. My pocket is not happy, as ER Vets are pricey, but I'm happy that he made it back home! If anyone is losing marbles, it's this pet mom over here! 🤦‍♀️
Thank you for explaining the similarity between alcohol and xanax. I had always wondered what the doctor meant when she said "xanax is like tequila." Also, thank you for my medical lesson of the day!

My Gran died from dementia, which we noticed on the regular family dinners , between 3 wings of the family .
It showed in her cooking , with root vegetables , partly cooked & leaf veg , ften over done , so we decided to cut it to twofamilys , until age caught the other branch , and we got Granny , after Grandpa died - thankfully , Gran progressed quickly , and died in stage 4 , not remembering any of her children , or grandchildren .
Gran always had aluminum pots , whch we avoied and stuck with stanless steel or cast iron , or enameled ots or pans .

This scares me. I'm 63 and medically complicated, I've had lacunar strokes, cerebral stroke, small heart attack, heart failure, PEs, diabetic, etc. I also have narcolepsy. I already have a hard time reading and some words (spoken) after small strokes. I think I'll be in an assisted living center soon, even with good docs now ( gas lighted in past). My sweet husband says he'll take care of me, but don't think he can with his health (bad Crohn's Disease).

My best friend died of this terrible affliction two years ago at the age of 66. It took several years to get it diagnosed. She was finally diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia. This has to be one of the cruelest diseases ever. No known cause ever determined by any of the specialists despite our taking her to Stanford and UCSF. No alcohol, drug use, anxiety, depression or family history. The symptoms started immediately upon her taking the drug Metformin!!

Could Wendy’s condition have been caused by her getting weight loss surgery which created a lot of health issues and deficiencies? A coworker got weight loss surgery that imho like Wendy didn’t need it, (my friend was a size 16 and gained weight to a size 18/20 just to get the surgery. She was not morbidly obese.) Within less than a year my friend was placed on medical disability as she wasn’t able to put on weight or retain any nutrients which caused a downturn to her health.
