I watched 5 other videos on how to do this and none of them explained the reverse threads or to rotate in opposite directions! I would have never known. I wish I would have watched this before I snapped one of my impact bits. Thank you.
This one was the best pedal uninstall/install I've seen yet because it assumes you're a layperson without a bike stand. This is just how I was doing it. Watched the left pedal a couple of times and everything worked out fine. I liked that you used several different tools and techniques as well. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing super helpful, such a simple video yet so valuable!! struggled with trying to figure out which direction I go especially when the pedals are seized on there
Thanks your video helped me solve my problem most videos only shows how to remove the right pedal but does not show how to remove the left one. Thanks 🙏🏼
@@cjhoyle You were the only one to suggest using body weight and both feet, my pedals were really tight and all the other videos were obviously just loosening pedals that were already pretty loose! :)
Are they stripped because you tried to thread the wrong side of paddle into the crank? Most likely it's only the beginning of the threads which are damaged. Maybe you could try threading the pedal in from the opposite side of the crank. The beginning should be easy but get hard at the end when you hit the damaged part of the threads. Forcing them in backwards might clean up the threads enough to install them correctly. Just an idea, never tried this myself.
HI! What a frame of your bike? I buy used old bike with frame similar your bike and have no idea what manufacture this frame. Serial number of frame is 0RA00F041.
I've had someone else ask me that in the comments of one of my videos. The answer is that I honestly don't know. The stickers on the bike were badly damaged when I took possession of it, so I removed them. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos before doing that. However, I'm pretty sure it was just a department store type brand.
Very helpful as always!!!!!!! Thank you CJ!!! Also happy new year 2020 , with health , love, joy and many safe kilometers to ride and enjoy!!!! Greetings from Greece!!! Yianna P.
Did you try stomping on the wrench with your foot like I showed in this video? If that doesn't work you could try spraying a chemical on it such as Liquid Wrench and then try again. If you can't get it free, the only option is to also replace your cranks.
Screw threads are 3D objects and Clockwise/Counter-Clockwise can only account for 2 dimensions. If you change your frame of reference by 180 degrees...the thing that you were calling clockwise before is now counter-clockwise. The RHR and LHR are perfect for expressing 3D rotation.
Clockwise vs counter-clockwise is a 2 dimensional concept which is less helpful for something 3 dimensional like this. It's also helpful for both tightening and loosening.
Watched a few videos on which direction to turn the spanner for each pedal - and this right-hand rule is BY FAR the best AND simplest! Cheers!!
Glad to hear. Thanks!
Thanks for making the video, I tried everything to remove a very stubborn pedal. When I bought a pedal wrench it came off amazingly easily.
I watched 5 other videos on how to do this and none of them explained the reverse threads or to rotate in opposite directions! I would have never known. I wish I would have watched this before I snapped one of my impact bits. Thank you.
Yikes, sorry to hear!
I almost hammer my pedals to bits..luckily for me I found your vid..the pedal rotation were the opposite direction as you said it would..so dumb me 😂😅
So true! Oh God, I've been trying to take them off for 30 minutes!

No problem, happy to help!
Thanks for the hand direction trick. Simple thing to remember and it definitely worked!
Glad to hear. I use the right-hand rule all the time!
Great vid helped so much because my pedals were stuck and I had no idea which way to turn them. Thanks for explaining things thoroughly and simply.
Thanks your video helped me solve my problem most videos only shows how to remove the right pedal but does not show how to remove the left one.
Thanks 🙏🏼
My pedals were super tight, stepping on the pedal and wrench did the trick!
Glad to hear!
Good vid. Concise, to the point and easy to follow. BS kept to a minimum.
Used the balance on one Pedal and push down with other foot, worked a treat. Lifesaver !!
Glad to hear!

That left hand - right hand move is the best thing i've seen since The Karate Kid! Genius.
Thanks. It's super handy, I use it all the time!
Thank you my friend. The right and left hand rule demonstration was fantastic and a great help👍
Glad to hear!
Very good tutorial about dismantling the peddles, esp using the palm to determine which direction to turn the ranch to unscrew or screw to instal
Thanks.
Great job explaining the directions to remove the pedals.
Thank you for sharing your technique, by far the best and I removed my pedals which was initially stuck without a problem. 🙏
I watched 4 videos before yours and when watching yours, it actually clicked and made sense. Thank you. 😎👍🏼
Thanks! I hope the RUclips search algorithm is reading this comment :P
Finally a video that got right to the point and was informative!
Thanks.
Great video. I snapped my pedal going up a steep hill so will remove the broken bolt and replace with a spare..yay!
Tried to change my peddles for my ebike, but adjustable spanner and other is just impossible 😭
I think I stripped the threads on part of one of the cranks. Any hope it could still accommodate the pedal?

Thank you for explaining the R and L thing!
No problem, glad it was helpful!
thank you for making this video man, it helped a lot
No problem, glad to hear!
The best video about this matter.
Thanks!
Thanks! I was able to get my pedals off my bike!
What if my pedal screw is slightly bent and pedal won't turn properly??
Worked like a charm. Thanks!
Nice work!
The best explanation. Thank You!
Thanks!
Good vid straight to the point!!👍
The thump tip will live with me forever 😭😭😭

From Delhi with love
Thanks, glad to hear!
Thank you, you covered everything!
Very good explanation especially the right and left hand rule. Makes it much easier to understand and remember. Thanks for the video/
No problem, I'm glad it was helpful!
What is the name of that special wrench?
It's called a pedal wrench.
Best video. Straight to the point. Thanks
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful.

Thank you and happy new year to you as well!
Try Flixportal. Just search on google for it =)
Very useful - many thanks
Thanks!
Excellent tutorial! Just what I needed.
Perfect, glad to hear.
brief and clear, nice
Thank you.
Love your videos! You explain everything so well and understandable.
Thanks!
yes i like
hq.
Excellent in every aspect.
Im changing my flat pedals to clipless for first time I can tell its going to be a pain in the arse, I bought the pedal wrench wish me luck
is it the same as mountain bike?
Yes.
What to do if it just doesint want to screw off

@@cjhoyle it worked, thanks 😁
Really good clear informative video thank you. Very nicely made as well, I think it was probable quite a lot of work but it was well worth it.
Thank you, I appreciate!
The video is great I can finally replace the broken pedals 😌
Thank you, happy to help!
This was so helpful the right hand rule.... rules thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, I'm glad to hear!
My pedal only go in half the way and it keep falling of when i use the bike
It sounds like the threads are damaged on either the pedal or the crank (or both).
the trouble i was having was turning the wrong direction on the left side. Thank you for this!
Helped a lot
Thanks, glad to hear!
Can I use Vaseline?
I've never tried it, but I suspect it would be fine in this application.
What happens when your pedal snapped off. 🤔 due to rust
If there is a part of the pedal axle sticking out, hopefully you can find something that can grip onto it firmly enough to remove it.
Great helpful video. I loved the "right hand rule" and "left hand rule" -!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks man!
No problem!
Thank you!🤘
No problem.
Some of the bikes have a biger size opening the standard pedal will be too small ...you need to get the right size
Great vid
Nice video!
Wo wo wo..so informative
Thanks a lot
Thanks boolna Ka liya
Fantastic.
Thank you.
Took me a second to balance on the bike but this worked
Lean on a wall?
Thank u kindly
No problem!
Excellent video, thanks a million
Legend 👏
🤜🤛
Thanks!
Thank you 😊
I just remember right side is rotation you'd expect dealing with bolts, so it's "right".
Other side isn't.
That's a good way to remember.
Thanks
No problem.
Great video, thank you.
The easiest way to remember this is "place pedal arm forward and push the wrench down."
Just be careful not to use this saying if you're working on a bike which has been flipped upside down!
Do count with your fingers lol easier just to say clockwise and counter clockwise...good video
Thanks its a good video i am challenged spatially and mechanically but its fairly simple main thing dont strip the threads !
Video was helpful! Thanks!
Just tell me how
Cool
Thank you soooo much
Are you really an expert to fix bikes
Thank You
Thanks a lot this really helped
I don't know what a 1 or 3 piece style crank is. I'm buying a Kent Margaritaville Cruiser that needs a pedal replacement
In the video I showed both styles of cranks on screen.
Why don't you just use "clockwise" to tighten the Right side pedal and "counter-clockwise" to tighten the Left side pedal.
Clockwise vs counter-clockwise is a 2 dimensional concept which is less helpful for something 3 dimensional like this. It's also helpful for both tightening and loosening.
How about if using my feet still isn't enough? Can I borrow somebodies Gorilla? Send it to Iceland please we have no gorillas here!
haha we don't have any gorillas in Canada where I live either. Two other things you could try are penetrating oil (such as Liquid Wrench), or heat.
And now I'll show you how to do the same for pedals which have an Allen socket. No I won't.
The right-hand / left-hand trick I showed in this video works in exactly the same way whether you are using an allen key or a wrench.
Thank you!!!
Priyanshu
Years ago it didn't matter which pedal went to which side. Interchangeable was what the pedals were. Chinese!
Bikes from 100+ years ago perhaps.
Very useful, thank you!
Thanks mate. Perfect.
Thanks.
Thank you
No problem.
Thankyou
Thanks.
Thank you very much for this video!
