Roberto, You really make that baby sing. Not everyone can adapt to a fretless. Excellent duet guys. Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John Zepbass Gregory from Munster Indiana.
Norm you never fail to amaze me , your memory with names is amazing. I’m just behind you n I have a lot of trouble remembering especially names. Roberto you’re so humble but a great bass player n Lemmo I’ve yet to see you live one day sorry I missed you in Vegas . Jen and you can give me pointers on how to cut n paste my RUclips videos. ❤🎸🎸🎸☮️👍🏻
Nice!! Been on a Winterland bender lately,,,,went there about a dozen times. Weather Report for "Heavy Weather" with Al DiMeola 'Elegant Gypsy' opening. Al brings out Carlos Santana for the encore and during TeenTown, someone keeps saying "Dance, Jaco, Dance!!" He just smiled and tore it up. good times.
Absolutely stellar. Great fretless from Roberto-that bass is killer! I’m a guitar player; I can play some bass, but fretless is beyond my capability. I sure love the sound, though! Can you imagine Jaco Pastorius and Jimi Hendrix playing together? I guess we’ll have to wait until we reach the next world (if there is one) to find out!
I was previously tempted to get a bass with the fret markings that resembled Jaco's models. When I finally got my fretless model in 2020, it was my friend's custom build from Carvin (now Kiesel) that had similar pickups but nothing on the fingerboard. What I would like to do with the fingerboard is something I've been informed Jaco did with his bass, applying that boat epoxy to the fingerboard. It wouldn't be about wanting to emulate him half as much as protecting the fingerboard (like to change it into a mirror) so that I could play slap lines like Les Claypool. I'm not a Primus follower, so it often amazes me to know that Les is slapping into Infinity on a fretless bass and singing. I want to do those things also. Please tell Roberto that if Jaco had made it past 1987, he probably would have the same to say about Roberto that Roberto has to say about him. For starters, he also began on upright bass like Roberto did, so that would be a point of connection.
I'm by no means an expert on Jaco but I did meet him at Westwood Music on the several nights that Joni Mitchell rehearsed there for the Hierra album. Jaco was very nice and he let me play his bass. The stings were mile high off the fretboard and basically unplayable for the average human. I bet the Fender Custom Shop didn't add this feature to the bass. He played through a Roland JC-120 at these sessions.

Great Bass playing!!!!!!! AND LEMMO!!!!!!!
As if I couldn’t love Norm more. He was mates with my bass hero. Unreal.
He plays fretless with such precision. A Gibson glorified Casino was the cherry choice for that number.
Jazzy Precision, eh? 😜
Wow what history Norm! and the sound of this bass is just pure MAGIC good job Roberto, Cheers!!

All this video is missing is Rick Beato! If I had the money I’d gift that bass to Roberto, super player and a super nice guy!
Jaco is hard to imitate
Like butta
Tell Roberto to leave his lounge slippers at home next time
