I just paused this and cleaned out my closet. 90 pieces of clothing are being donated and my closet is still full 😂 but it’s actually things I like and wear and are my style so that’s cool

Yes it is! It also takes time to mentally adjust to not keeping something. I go through my closet every year or two and throw out things I told myself I’d ALWAYS want to keep. I just purged some sentimental things this week actually - it felt kind of nice to not be as attached to them anymore and recognize the need for more space/peace in my life than the memories I kind of have with those clothes. Also, the pictures and memories are there, but I don’t have the urge to keep everything as much anymore. Once you haven’t seen it in years, it’s easy to understand how little use you have for it, and then it’s very freeing to let go.

Coming from an Asian working class immigrant family, I experienced firsthand how hard it is to get rid of things. It's one of many reasons I moved out: I can manage my stuff, but I can't handle being surrounded by everyone else's clutter. I'm the sentimental type and tend to hold onto things, but I go through my closet twice a year. It's much harder since moving out, and living in Canada with 4 extremely different seasons, it's easy to accumulate things. It was hard to let go of some high school clothes, so many memories and I considered making a t-shirt collage, but knew I would probably never get around to do said project. I managed to let go, as I had pictures wearing them ☺
I had a wonderful first experience with ThredUp, but I've read negative testimonials of how they prioritize profits over quality and mistreat their employees in recent years. I'm reconsidering to shop in the future. 😐

I love the acknowledgement that it's hard for a lot of people. As a sentimental person, but also someone who tries to do minimalist... it's a struggle... But I try and have a one in one out policy most of the time... But my partner is definitely a bit more of a clothes hoarder. His shirts take up more than half of the hanger space in our closet haha!
I was a bit set back by the brand name in the beginning of the video. "Mumu" is a German word for your lady parts. So "Show me your Mumu" as a brand name is... interesting. :D
So lucky as I am currently being grilled to accept clothes back I haven’t wore in a few years. But I come from a working Asian family that immigrated into the US with very little so it’s so hard to argue to not keep it. She literally threw a “ Don’t waste my money” quote at me.

As much as I’d love to declutter, it feels so wasteful. I try to donate items but the reality is that a lot of things end up in the landfill. And it’s just the worst when you get rid of something and then need it later. I try to shop at thrift stores but it simply not convenient when it comes to needing very specific items. And if it’s not wasteful, it’s expensive to buy roller blades multiple times. Like, I’ll just hold onto them. Do I use them often? No! Will I use them again one day? Ummm yes. Absolutely. So I will hold onto the ones I have.
De cluttering is always rewarding, not only that but to be able to fit stuff without overflowing is also rewarding haha! I declutter every time I switch my wardrobe around. (Truth be told it was very very hard to do so but I have learned how to! Yet the person I learned from has even way more clothes then I ever did!! 😂😂😂)
Molly I am disabled so I have someone coming over to help me clean out my closet and dresser drawers this weekend, I tend to do major cleaning out of closet in spring and fall, I clean out other areas of my place summer and winter. This video is definitely motivation to get rid of things that I haven't worn .

I’m getting the impression that she’s having trouble separating her past style from her current style, and having a closet full of old clothes that don’t fit her current style probably didn’t help with that at all.
I try to declutter when I run out of hangers, but I have a lot of clothing and I wear almost all of it

I'm about to move from an urban city environment to a totally rural isolated farm lifestyle. My mom and I are about to go through my clothes cupboard (I'm from South Africa, we don't say closet) and I CAN NOT WAIT! I think she is more excited to 'claim' my donate pile tbh! I usually do a yearly clearout but this will really be a whole different experience...a girl can't wear her heels feeding the chickens 😂

I have 4 children and we are in that transition period from summer into school/cooler weather clothes and it really is a great time to get rid of the old and see where the gaps are!

I usually always try to sell or donate things as I get new things but I think I need to empty my closet and really organize it. That’s my biggest problem, not keeping it organized. Thank you for the motivation 🤣💕🙌🏻

I wish I could do this I have extremely bad short term memory loss from having a stroke and many seizures long term growing up so physically feeling something and seeing it can trigger a memory for me I had lost 😞

I'm doing a challenge where I have to wear a new outfit every day and not repeat items more than 2-3x. That way I can try things out and it helps me realize what I don't actually like, realize what I DO actually like that I should wear more, and shows me what gaps I have. 😊

I totally need a kick in the butt, I’m a big emotional keeper. I have clothes from the late 90’s, vhs collection, and live in pathways. Organized, ordered, and open spaces where I live bring extreme anxiety. So I live with cozy apartments with literal emotional baggage.

MY problem is that several T-shirts I have are very personalized souvenirs. No, I don't wear them, because I don't want to ruin them with spills or tears. So, there they hang...but they are not personalized with names, but with events my late hubby and I participated in, and even feature screen prints of the car we won a car show with. That's not going to have universal appeal; it means something only to me.
I know Molly had good intentions but she seemed a bit overly pushy with Lisa. You can tell she felt kind of bad getting rid of many clothes. She didn't even have that many to begin with. I get it if the amount of old unworn clothes was stressing her out or causing problems but it doesn't seem like it was.
Everyone is different. Just because you feel the most comfortable living a certain lifestyle, doesn't mean that you should force it on your friends. Everyone has different things that bring them joy. For some it might be organization and order but for others it might be keeping objects with sentimental value.
I think you need a new approach based on what I have learned from others and implemented myself. Step one. Go through all of the clothes and ask the question "Have you worn it in the last year?" Yes/No piles. Save the decision making for the nos later. Decision making for only the nos later.

I have one bit of advice with this video I'm also a pale skinned girl. My one bit of advice is be careful with pale colours such as the pale pink jumpsuit because same as with me it just becomes part of your skin colour. I would mostly suggest darker shades or blue.

I actually do de clutter my closet twice a year, but I need someone to help me make outfits. I have a problem with buying either too many pants or too many shirts and for some reason when I’m going to wear something I’m like god I never bought a shirt for these pants so then I have new clothes sitting there waiting for the perfect pants or shirt 😑 does anyone else have this problem?!
Can you come do mine? Clothes are functional for me and pretty much nothing else, so if it still works, I keep it...holes? upgraded to painting gear or PJs...

This makes me want to clean out my closet, but there's SO much in there, that I just never do it.
A tip from my favorite decluttering expert is to go in with a trash bag and a cardboard donate box and just grab visible obvious trash and donations for as long as you have time and emotional energy. Even if you just grab two items of trash, you made progress!
