My dad was a huge Sinatra fan. He died a few months before my 29th birthday. My friends and I went out to celebrate. We were at a bar and I went to use the men’s room. The men’s room was on a separate sound system than the bar. This song was playing. I started to cry because I was still missing my dad. I have no doubt in my mind that it was him. That was 23 years ago and this song still makes me tear up.
Great song! Frank Sinatra was such a smooth crooner. He was nicknamed the "Chairman of the Board" & later called "Ol' Blue Eyes". He has a huge library of great songs. Some of my favorites are "New York, New York", "Strangers In The Night", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Come Fly With Me", "That's Life", "My Kind Of Town", "Summer Wind" etc. And he did a duet with his daughter Nancy called "Something Stupid" in 1967.

When Sid Vicious did it, he provided that other side to the song; the certainty, the self- congratulation, the daily heroism of Sinatra’s version is completely exploded by this desperate, mad, humorous voice. I can’t go round in a raincoat and fedora looking over my life saying I did it my way - well, for 10 minutes in some American bar over a gin and tonic you might be able to get away with it. But Sid Vicious’s rendition takes in everybody; everybody is messed up like that, everybody is the mad hero of his own drama. It explodes the whole culture this self-presentation can take place in, so it completes the song for me."

Frank put it out and it's great but Elvis sings it the best
Frank just doesn't do much for me. He kind of just talks through this song in his nonchalant way. Now, when Elvis sings it, he really sings it with emotion and power. The song fits his life much better than Frank's.
The rendition of Elvis is drenched with emotion. Sinatra's rendition is filled with reflection. I prefer reflection.
