Great Date Night! Just a FYI, I gut them, then filet them, the heads go to the chickens, the bones with meat on get boiled until it comes off easy, then it gets made into salmon chowder. You will be shocked howmuch meat is still on the bones, then grind the bones up and feed to chickens. The fish broth is awesome to add in chowder. Also a great soup starter. Hope you don't mind the ideas.

My girls had a hard time putting two and two together when I told them it was you. They know the videos from your intro and when you say “Roooberto”(they always say it randomly). I showed them the video and after the introduction they knew who we were watching. They got excited when they seen the Russian River and Kenai. However, when they seen the picture of your daughter and I they started jumping and getting excited because mom was on RUclips 😂 I couldn’t stop laughing at their excited. Living in Alaska is a blessing. Your date night is also one of my ideal date nights lol I would pass up a lot of stuff to have a fishing/hunting date with my husband. Im excited for you that you caught your first sockeye, and on the Russian and kenai is no easy feat. Can’t wait to see your next adventures!

I can feel the adrenaline rush! I love fishing and would love to fish in Alaska!! The black bear there reminds me of my old house in Colorado! I had bears every night! Had allot of close calls getting in and out of the house and to my vehicle. For the first year every time I heard something outside I would run to the window to see what was happening, I had floor to ceiling windows. One night I pulled back the curtain and was inches, face to face with a adult bear, it was standing on its hind legs and had ahold of my hummingbird feeder! My dumb butt started pounding on the glass and yelling for it to let go of the feeder! I scared it and ran off. The next night it came back and crushed the feeder lol! It had the last word!

Jessica you are unrelenting with that fishing pole in hand! My arms would have broken off like your reel and floated down stream! But your determination won the day!!
    Questions:
    * Why is the fishing at its best on the line where the rivers meet?
    * What is the purpose of the plastic fencing along the path and on the side of the river?
So glad you shared this experience! The bears are another matter! Down here in the foothills and especially where we live, we are just a neighborhood, so woods are all around! We frequently have a rogue bear checking us out! It is unnerving.
    My very best to all!
Until we visit again share a hug from me with Aaron. ❤ Momma G

Beautiful salmon! I worked in a gold mine camp in the Yukon for Six months and I’m a total city girl but my parents needed help as my mom got very sick and she had a contract to do all the cooking and cleaning so I had to take over for her and let me tell you the first time I came across a grizzly i darn near messed my drawers 💩, I was driving on the narrow camp road and this bear reared up on his hind legs and I turned into jello! He only stood there about a minute but it felt like an hour, I was shaking so bad lol. That happened my second day there and I saw grizzlies, black and brown bears on a daily but usually from a safer distance but it never got easier to deal with. One of the geologists was being stocked by a grizzly while he was in the bush surveying the land, he was packing but he was very happy to get to his truck! Needless to say I was very happy when my six months was up and I could go home, you are braver then me that’s for sure

Of my many experiences floating the Kenai, fishermen coming off the Kenai hitchhike a way back to their vehicle or close to it, there is always great people and someone will pick u up! :) Especially those that float the river down and need to get back to their truck at the launch. A couple years ago a black bear came right up (50ft) to a group of us and this one guy walks towards it for better view and puts his 5 year old in front of him! My friend went up and pulled them away, people just dont get it.

We just tie hooks on when we get down so we are not catching them on things. We fish so much each set up is different and I don’t know anyone that leaves hooks on the poles. Also this sort of fishing is constant resetting for everyone. I have seen people loose 30 hooks in one afternoon. Like the part of the video the salmon had 3 hooks in it before I got it in. I hope that helps.
