I’ve never thought of it as getting paid to live in Alaska. When they first started the dividend a good majority of people working on the pipeline were from oil producing states like Texas because they had the needed job skills. The problem was they were taking those salaries and spending them in their own states and all that revenue was just flowing out of the state that was producing it. So the administration at the time took a portion of the profits and invested it, earmarking that as a dividend to the residents to compensate for the resources flowing out and ensuring that a portion of that revenue remained in the state. I’ve always admired their foresight in doing that!
I worked in the oil field and along the pipeline over thirty years as a resident starting in 1979. I always take the view that by not having these people living in Alaska we don’t have to build roads and schools for them and their kids. Also the PFD didn’t start until the early 1980s when most of the pipeline construction workers left. Very few of the people I worked with lived out of state and most of them that did were just setting up a home in the lower 48 a few years before they retired.
The Alaska money payout is not for living there but to share the oil profits with the people of the state. Today, the money is helpful because the prices in Alaska is extreme for a lot of items when compared to the lower 48!
Sounds like socialism. Evil! Don't you know everything should go to the rich so it can TRICKle down? They won't just hord the money. They won't do stock buy backs.

@@modernhomesteadalaska yes there are so many questions like this about living here. Also so many misunderstandings. I feel ppl have no idea how different it is living here. It is so unique and not for everyone. I’ve seen ppl come and go. The ones that stay have truly embraced what it means to be Alaskans💚 god bless you and the family.
My father always made wooden feed boxes for the rabbits so they had something extra to gnaw on because rabbits teeth keep growing and that helps them to trim them back.
Rabbits will use a litter box easily for easy clean up . They will do it by nature, that why they use the nesting boxes so if you put in a small type litter tray for them with a nesting box that should help. Rabbits are the easiest to raise. Oh they also love for a snack ..... Bread lol it also helps put on extra fat for the winter months to help keep them warm. I used to Run a Resort and we had hundreds of Rabbits, it was a main attraction for ppl that came to stay in our cabins. So we kept lots of can of old bread from the bread store in cans everywhere for the Rabbits and Deer and a occasional Bear lol
Was that Roberto in the hay bale @ 15:30 ?? LOLOLOLOL I think most of us would do the same as you and Aaron chose to do with your PFD, which is STOCK UP before winter! 🥰
I'm all for using any bonus money to buy the necessary and extra things you need to put you in either a better place for a season or the year. It doesn't matter what others think of your choices as long as you and any immediately involved is OK with that choice.
@@modernhomesteadalaska people seem to think they deserve to know everything about people they watch and follow. I have a real problem with that. I watch to learn, yes I like watching your adult kids do their stuff on the channel. I don't care how much you earn or what you spend it on learning about that stuff is very much a American thing to ask. I'm a brit we take you as we find you. I'm actually glad with the way you run this channel, you keep most of your personal life private I think it's a good security measure.
I always laugh when someone asks if I get paid to live in Alaska. I just give a flat out "NO". Then they ask about the PFD, I say a PFD is a double lifesaver. One PFD is a personal Floatation device and the other PFD is a dividend from the oil which saves people with money for the Winter or to help with bills.
There you go! It’s wild but it’s even a question Aaron and I looked up before moving. Not because it was a factor on the move, but more a wondering if it’s true or not.
First time watching, and I've loved it. I will definitely be watching again, I'm very interested in what you had to say, and I love animals, and the fact that your obviously caring for yours very well, puts a smile on my face. Can I just ask, at any point are your animals being raised solely to be sold off to be killed and eaten, I'm sorry but I just had to ask. Hope to see you guys soon...🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾🎃🎃🎃
"Welcome to Alaska, here's $1000!" I still get asked about the PFD even though I've never gotten one. It seems to be the first question folks ask when they find out you've spent any amount of time in Alaska lol.
Wow thank you for sharing your life , i am amazed at your achievement of managing your animals nutritional food intack considering your animals/cows a😊re given alfalfa , a very full on day, 7 days a week your so skilled . Gathering goods is autumn's job! You look so cute doing it all. Just a cautionary warning...don't be lifting so many heavy feed bags. Until our next visit...how did that morning snow end? ❤ Momma G
Ok Jess. I just have to comment on this video again. You have apparently hit a nerve with some on this topic. I have never seen so many mean comments on your channel before. I believe that you were just stating your opinion and topic high points on the Alaska PFD payments. I, being in Texas, have no idea what this is but if people are soooooooooooo interested in this topic (weird) they can look up the many specifics online. Wow. I cannot believe the response of some. Stay strong Girl.
Oh thank you. It’s all good honestly. I truly feel like the video was just good basic infuriation and done in good taste staying away from hot button topics. I’m reminded angry people look for reasons to be angry, and thankful people look for reasons to be thankful….. list is endless. My point is if somone wants to find a reason to get mad at a RUclips video they will no matter how well intended or well thought out the person or video actually is. So I’m truly actually very happy with how the video itself is preforming! Thank you for the kind words love and support! It shows clearly you have an outstanding character
@@modernhomesteadalaska I have to say that if people are so invested in a youtube channel for their news go somewhere else. This is for information as the creator sees it. Really this is so crazy how people get so upset.
It's amazing how people say it does help a lot. Because food prices is the same price as in the lower 48 and it's amazing. I'm going back-and-forth every 3 weeks back-and-forth back and forth. Gas prices are the same as lower 40.Might very in Anchorage from Willow. And all thit's very, very similar as a lower 48.The only thing is expensive is fruits and dairy.Other than that it's very very consumer
I think animal feed prices are quite different. And anything a person of our income gets an extra $1,709 it does actually help. But it is expensive depending only on the item like you listed fruits and dairy
I live in Michigan and going into winter I try to stockpile food also. I bought 55 gallon drums with lids that lock that I can pour all the food in each area that it's needed. I think I would have a heart attack if our hay for the horse was that expensive.
Probably would be hard for someone too live in Alaska if they had a lot of health issues,it would be tough.but be cool too live in Alaska the beauty of the state
You do exactly what we do, adding the cracked corn. We will start it in December here in TN. I also have lots of herbs that I’ve dehydrated, frozen or frozen it with fresh pumpkins. I will thaw it and warm it some before giving it to them. Pumpkin is very good for them this time of year too, I’ve been told by several farmers it’s a good wormer. 🤷🏼♀️
@@modernhomesteadalaska last year my granddaughter and I did the pumpkin “carving” where they peck out the areas we started to carve for them out and she was so excited her girls really carved out the pumpkins. And yes!! Deep bedding all the way. It really keeps it warm in the barn where they mostly stay, then it helps my garden out come Spring.
Have heard that the corn crop was pretty bad this year and that we should expect prices to go up. Letting you know about this because you can buy more for your chicken. A friend of mine grew up in a milk farm. He told me he was buying huge container of melasse to keep the iron level of their cows high.

Thanks for the visit
Chugiak 3 Bears in Chugiak is a good place to look before continuing into anchorage. Always stalked and a much less busy community.
Great call! My daughter shops that one all the time
Great way to spend on extra food for the animals and repairs.
Thank yoh
That’s so great thank you so much for sharing I’ll try and look up some ideas
Was that Roberto in the hay bale @ 15:30 ?? LOLOLOLOL I think most of us would do the same as you and Aaron chose to do with your PFD, which is STOCK UP before winter! 🥰
Ahhh lol he loves the hay I’ll find him and peaches both laying on it together go to grab my phone and he gets up! I got my jars! Thank you very much
@@modernhomesteadalaska yay! Glad they finally made it there!!! Hope they're helpful to you!
I’m sure we have some canning coming up asap
I'm all for using any bonus money to buy the necessary and extra things you need to put you in either a better place for a season or the year. It doesn't matter what others think of your choices as long as you and any immediately involved is OK with that choice.
Amen! I always say I’m only accountable to my family not the internet. And you the viewer are only accountable to your family not me.
Thank you that’s so kind! WELCOME!
"Welcome to Alaska, here's $1000!" I still get asked about the PFD even though I've never gotten one. It seems to be the first question folks ask when they find out you've spent any amount of time in Alaska lol.
Exactly! It is I think the most asked question no matter who it is to
Wow thank you for sharing your life , i am amazed at your achievement of managing your animals nutritional food intack considering your animals/cows a😊re given alfalfa , a very full on day, 7 days a week your so skilled . I live in Australia Queensland Townsville we have extreme heat so i enjoy learning how you manage and plan for your future winter months.
You are so welcome! Glad you like it! Do kind of you
Gathering goods is autumn's job! You look so cute doing it all. Just a cautionary warning...don't be lifting so many heavy feed bags.
Until our next visit...how did that morning snow end? ❤ Momma G
Oh thank you so much my friend! Until next visit! The snow was gone by afternoon
Love your work ethics
Much appreciated
I live in Michigan and going into winter I try to stockpile food also. I bought 55 gallon drums with lids that lock that I can pour all the food in each area that it's needed. I think I would have a heart attack if our hay for the horse was that expensive.
It’s very expense here! Love the 55 gal drums that how we did it in Colorado
I completely understand the stock piwinners up there in alaska are pretty rough sometimes
Agree!
Yes! Same here! I’m going to cook up some pumpkins o give them all the seeds and scraps they love it
@@modernhomesteadalaska last year my granddaughter and I did the pumpkin “carving” where they peck out the areas we started to carve for them out and she was so excited her girls really carved out the pumpkins.
Oh wow that’s good to know thank you for sharing
@@modernhomesteadalaska Don't give Peaches too much of it because it has an impact on their digestive system.
@@louisech1963 we don’t ever just give her corn
@@modernhomesteadalaska she may have been referring to the molasses impacting digestive system. It gives us humans the trots.😅
@@ohnoyce oh!
I would recommend fermenting to benefit the animals and the people.
Agree
Nice video
Thank you!
