Great Free Camping Find Lou!. Have to keep this one in mind. I may have to put Angie up on the roof of the 5th wheel to make sure we dont hit any tree limbs getting in. Yeah, after looking at that view at 10 minutes in not sure if I could make it under those. So that second road in, did it join the road in before that canopy of trees? Thanks for sharing Lou!
Great video you guys, this was one of the very first free camping sites that we stayed at when we hit the road in 2020. It was so great to see it again, can't wait to go back. We had a great time in the area and enjoyed the hiking trails that are right next to the campsites. We were lucky enough to get campsite #2 where the class b was.
Awesome to see they have scrapped the roads and cut the grass in Santee Coastal. I was there last year and it wasn't done. During May, the huge mosquitoes swarmed my van so badly when I pulled up, I couldn't even open my door because they would have come in. Mosquitoes Apocalypse is what I called it. I had to leave because I saw west nile and Malaria flying around my van.
Santee Coastal Reserve is a very cozy looking place to stay a few nights! Gotcha on the bug repellent, I could see them flying all around your video! lol I Love the big trees with the spanish moss hanging off of them ! I think I may have mentioned that before in one of your videos. But if not, I really love the spanish moss! lol I would have thought with the controlled burn, the bugs would have vacated. But then, I guess they just flew over by you where there wasnt that much smoke. Yes I agree, that class B was pretty cool looking! Dave was a nice guy. What was his dogs name? That was so wild, that he was watching your youtube, and then happen to see yall ! I couldnt see on the sign, because of the glass, but are there alligators, and bear warning signs for this area? just askin'....lol Wonderful video thanks for sharing!
Insects can be brutal here, but it depends on the season. Experiencing this camping opportunity while it is still cool in the shoulder seasons is the best time to visit. March and the later part of November into December will reduce the insect nuisance. Lou
This is a beautiful place to camp ! We enjoyed staying the this past week ! The winter months are really the BEST time to stay ! Summer months (or as soon as it starts warming up) is not so good ! BEWARE : The flies ,gnats and mosquitoes 🦟 will eat you ALIVE !
Great video review! Did you ever find out if your fifth wheel would make it through the trees? I’m planing on going there but concerned about my fifth wheel - 41’ Grand Design Reflection.
Not with the risk as I'd have to maneuver between the trees. Go to the nearby Honey Hill Recreation Area which is also free. See our related video. Lou

Great video! Thank you for sharing, we love SC!
Santee is a wonderful place to stay and convenient to Charleston. Thanks for another great recommendation.

Definitely have to time your visit. March into early April is cool enough to cut down on the flying insects. Lou
THANK YOU - will add this to our to do list
Thanks
Santee State Park is a beautiful place to visit on Lake Marion. Nice video

👍
I would Only camp there in the winter, the bugs are so bad that you need to wear bee suits
Good choice 👍
how can they lock you in ?? If there was a fire , you would not be able to get out !!!
Their property, their rules. I'm sure there is a reason for the nighttime gate closure. As for a fire -- have feet will travel. Lou
They have employees who live there on the property, they would open any gate.
if this rule concerns you, do not go!
