  • This was basically a one day build. I had to do a Christmas ornament, its tradition! I'm not sure this is a "Reverse Zoetrope", but its something. I will be expanding on this project in the future.

    I have to stop doing projects that don't work well with the camera's shutter.

      Regardless, thanks for taking the time to make an ornament this year and keep the tradition going. Happy holidays!

      I think your only solution for that would just be higher rpm, but that's not necessarily easy. Also I would suggest maybe using DotStar LEDa instead. They're also addressable but are designed for persistence of vision displays

      @@johnly_ Yes I would have to speed it up and use Dotstars, but I don't have any in strip form, just loose components! and they're pretty difficult to hand solder. haha

      What camera settings did you use? Can ISO be lowered, thus a slower shutter speed (necessitates using a tripod) . How many frames per second is the ornament displaying?

    • @SeanHodgins
      @SeanHodgins  4 года назад +1

      @@bornach At the lowest shutter speed camera will go to.

    Maybe use one magnet, then offset the firing of the neopixels in code at certain intervals to account for the neopixel timing constraints :)
    Great project though! Definitely not a camera friendly one unless you spin it at 60Hz or something (Or camera shutter speed divided by number of frames per rotation, I guess :P )

    Isn't a reverse zoetrope just a film projector? The images are lit in sequence as they pass a specific point. Neat project nonetheless.

    I didn't really get why addressable LEDs would ruin the timing?

    • @bipolarchemist
      @bipolarchemist 4 года назад

      It may be more of a Neopixel issue as they require very precise timing on the data line which could be causing other 'timing' issues. Pixels on individual data lines might allow the initial concept to work or moving to Dotstars could alleviate the timing issues all together. Or, you could use non-addressable RGB LEDs and remove any secondary timing issues from the problem. I'm no expert in this field so I could be comepletely wrong but those were my initial thoughts as a lot of POV displays tend to favor dotstars over neopixels because of timing issues.

      Kortt Wulfe not in this case. This hall sensor detects any magnetic field regardless of direction.
