We used a dope that was not fuel proof not Buterate can't remember the name because it was lighter then then fuel proof if needed Sig is the only one left. there was Pactra. Boy did we get high on that stuff hehe
Areo Gloss Dope is what i mostly used i also used Stazones both were buterite ao it was fuel proof.

after construction of balsa frame: Q "is it ok to use sanding sealer and then apply the silk covering?"
sure you can do that. but no real need to.
